Think Gareth should really look at players in form rather than youth talent. I'd like to see Craig Dawson given a chance!

  3. Phillips expected to be fit for England dutypublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Leeds United expect Kalvin Phillips to be fit for Euro 2020 if selected by England, after the midfielder picked up a shoulder injury in Sunday's 3-1 Premier League win against West Brom.

Phillips, 25, scored his first Premier League goal against the Baggies, before injuring his shoulder late on.

Leeds said Phillips' injury was "being treated conservatively".

In a statement, the club added: "We remain confident he will be available for Euro 2020, if selected for the England squad."

Why is Maguire seen as an automatic choice? What about Tarkowski and Mee? They spend all season defending for their lives and have become rather good at it. Ben Godfrey and Lewis Dunk must also surely be in contention.

Burnley and England goalkeeper Nick Pope is to have knee surgery three weeks before the start of Euro 2020.

Pope, 29, will have a "minor" operation next week after missing Burnley's final three Premier League games, including Sunday's trip to Sheffield United.

Pope has been capped seven times - starting three World Cup qualifiers in March - and is a regular in Gareth Southgate's England squads.

Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is expected to be fit.

Vulfen: Not much point taking more than 2 CFs. Kane will always be picked, I'd rather we take an extra midfielder, Kane and Watkins for me should be the 2 strikers, no Bamford or Calvert-Lewin.

  7. Ben Godfrey makes provisional squad?published at 12:38 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Gareth Southgate has a real selection headache for Euro 2020.

England boast a wealth of attacking options for the tournament this summer and while Harry Kane looks set to be the main man, around him there is a mix of seasoned performers and exciting youngsters to choose from.

We asked you to rank the seven options here - and former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards and former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton also debated the possibilities on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club.

You can still make your own list on that page, but it will not count towards the result.

  9. Alexander-Arnold has 'nothing to prove' - Klopppublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said that Trent Alexander-Arnold does not have to "prove anything" after he scored the winner against Aston Villa in April.

Alexander-Arnold curled home from 20 yards in the final minute, with Gareth Southgate watching after leaving the right-back out of England's first World Cup qualifiers in March.

"I don't think he has to prove anything, to be honest," Klopp told BBC Sport. "You can play the best season of your life and the coach of the national team has to make decisions and we respect that.

"The only thing Trent is doing is playing his best football. In the last 10 days, twice he's played outstanding and now he scores a goal. The most important thing is we stop talking about it."

The news that Gareth Southgate's squad has, initially, been expanded from 26 to 30 has given Leeds striker Patrick Bamford hope of earning international recognition.

Like Brighton's Ben White, he is yet to earn a senior call-up but the 27-year-old has impressed on his return to the top flight after coming through as a Chelsea youth product.

In his first full Premier League season, Bamford was the second highest-scoring Englishman with 17 goals from 38 games.

Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin was third with 16 from 33. The 24-year-old earned his England debut last October and already has four games from seven internationals.

England captain Harry Kane won the Premier League's Golden Boot with 23 goals.

  12. Will White be England's 'bolter'?published at 12:07 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

    The Athletic

There's usually at least one 'bolter' that comes from nowhere to earn a place in the squad. And the Athletic is reporting, external that this time Brighton's Ben White could be that man.

The 23-year-old is yet to represent England at any age level but has forced his way into contention this season.

On loan at Leeds last term, the versatile defender was an ever-present as they won the Championship title to secure a long-awaited return to the top flight.

Back with his parent club for his first Premier League season, White has made 36 league appearances - more than any other Brighton player.

  13. Lingard to secure place?published at 11:58 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Not even Jesse Lingard's parents would have named the Manchester United forward in their Euro 2020 squad at the turn of the year.

Then he joined West Ham on loan in the January transfer window, scoring nine goals in 16 Premier League games to help the Hammers to an unexpected sixth-placed finish and Europa League qualification.

The 28-year-old returned to the England squad for those three World Cup qualifiers in March and could well have forced his way in.

  14. Will Alexander-Arnold get back in?published at 11:50 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Trent Alexander-Arnold is featured on that list, and the biggest question mark leading up to today's announcement concerns the Liverpool right-back.

In the last two seasons, the 22-year-old has won the Champions League and Premier League, and played two games at the 2018 World Cup.

But he was dropped by Gareth Southgate for England's World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland in March.

Has he done enough during Liverpool's superb end to the season to get himself back in?

Gareth Southgate was expected to name his final 26-man squad for the Euros today, but the Football Association confirmed on Monday that it will be a provisional squad of 30, which will be trimmed down to 26 next Tuesday.

Why so? Because a couple of players still have injury concerns and several of those set to be picked still have another game to play with their clubs, with the Europa League and Champions League finals taking place over the next few days.
