  1. England to win on pens?published at 14:03 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    BBC football expert

"This is one of the most ordinary Germany sides I have seen for ages, but they are still Germany, in a knockout competition and they are going to enjoy being at Wembley.

"At the very least, they are going to be really, really difficult to beat, and they could even have a really big performance in them.

"That might come against England, who have done what they have had to so far and have probably played well for 90 minutes in total at this tournament - in the first halves of their games against Croatia and the Czechs.

"Sadly for them, those moments have been followed by what I would describe as staccato spells, where they have stagnated in attack and decided to sit back a bit.

"Some of that has been down to Gareth Southgate's team selection, because he has been cautious. He has got some big calls to make now.

"It is going to be extremely close but I think this is going to penalties - and I am backing England to get their own back this time."

Lawro's prediction: 0-0 after extra time - England to win on penalties

Penalties... can anyone go through all of that again?

  3. 'It's going to be a nail-biter' - Klinsmannpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

I think both sides are extremely excited, these are moments you live for as a football player or a manager, you want those big occasions.

This is the biggest stage at Wembley and tournament football is a completely different story, it's unpredictable as we saw yesterday in both games, anything can happen tonight.

For me it's a 50-50 situation, a little bit of luck is needed as well, therefore we are going to see a wonderful game tonight.

There is so much respect for each other from both sides and actually they are very similar also when you look at the teams now, they have very exciting young players, attack minded players, solid defenders, a good mix in the midfield, a good balance.

It's going to be a nail-biter. I don't think we will go to a penalty shootout, I think tonight the game will be decided in 90 minutes.

There will be approximately 1,800 Germany supporters at Wembley for the game. Though the official allocation is over 7,000 for each country, travel and quarantine restrictions meant that tickets were only available to German nationals living in the UK.

Calling all German supporters making the trip to Wembley, we want to hear from you!

What does the England-Germany rivalry mean to you? What do you expect to see this evening?

Tom - Confident We Will Beat The Germans Tonight! Also Confident Kane Will Turn Up an Score! Come On England. It's coming home

Mark - If you get an early goal, don’t sit back, get another. Stones don’t play with it on the edge of the area, launch it. Harry play up front, not midfield. Do these things and we can do it. Come on England

Dawesy - Southgate has to start Sancho tonight. Germany know his potential and ability. Would give a massive psychological edge from the outset.

  7. 'It's going to be a long evening' - Shearerpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

I don't think that there is that much between the teams, there is an argument that both teams have their own right to go through but I think it's going to be a long evening.

Unfortunately our nerves are going to be pushed to the limit but that still doesn't dampen my excitement, I can't wait for it.

Gareth Southgate has got some big decisions to make, I think he will go with four at the back and will have Mason Mount back in the team.

They'll be over 40,000 fans there and the vast majority will be English fans so that can only help us, we've been fortunate up to now that our games have been at Wembley.

I'll gladly take a 1-0 boring game as long as it's on the side of England.

  9. 'Germany would fear Sancho'published at 13:34 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Everyone in Germany is surprised Jadon Sancho has not had more game-time for England at Euro 2020 - but they don't want to see that change in this game.

Sancho is huge in Germany because of what he has done with Borussia Dortmund, and is seen as a big star in the Bundesliga - he is only 21 but he has been spectacular for the past few seasons.

Another young England player at Dortmund, Jude Bellingham, is rated very highly too, but he is a different kind of player.

It is Sancho that Germany would fear at Wembley - if he plays. They know how good he is.

    BBC Monitoring
    The world through its media

    .

German papers are not brimming with confidence after a difficult group stage.

Having been minutes from exiting Euro 2020 in their final group game against Hungary, Bild, external said: "We are through but nobody knows why!

"Facing England on Tuesday. At Wembley. In our favourite stadium. A classic. But we have to get better. Much better. Otherwise we will look old against the hitherto harmless English."

Leading sports magazine Kicker, external added: "This English team do not appear stable, they move forward with difficulty, as only two goals prove. Therefore, the chances for the German team in Wembley are 50:50 despite the weak display against Hungary."

    England v Germany (17:00 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker, BBC Sport column

I don't want to get ahead of myself, because this Germany game is a very difficult one to get through first, but we have got a decent draw and we probably couldn't have asked for a more favourable run to get to the final.

Of course England will have to improve if we are going to get there, but from what I've seen we have got a decent chance of going deep into this tournament.

This is where it really gets interesting though - there have not been many surprises so far, and all the big-hitters are through as expected.

We are not the only ones who will be saying our Euro 2020 starts here.

We've probably already mentioned that the last time England faced Germany in a major tournament was at the 2010 World Cup.

Germany went on to win the game 4-1 but can you name the starting line-ups?

You can probably remember a 'ghost goal' from that game.

Think you can you do it?

    Have a go.
