It doesn't take Carol Kirkwood to tell you it's looking very wet at Elland Road - there have been ferocious downpours before Leeds versus Everton, a nice rainy August afternoon in Yorkshire...

Let's hope our man on the ground, Phil Dawkes, has taken his poncho.

    Ex-Everton striker on BBC One

As much as I like Jesus as a centre-forward, I don't think he is enough for Manchester City.

He might prove me wrong but I feel like he's been stuck in Aguero's shadow and they're huge shoes to fill as well.

I'm excited to see what this City team are going to do now with Torres, Jesus, Silva and Grealish as well because there's so much fluidity there

I'm intrigued because they play a false nine really well and this is Jesus's time to shine

Will newly promoted Norwich get anything from the game today at champions Manchester City?

    Hit the thumbs.

  4. Kane to City?published at 14:49 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

Manchester City v Norwich (15:00 BST)

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC One

Is it going to happen, isn't it? £150m is a huge amount of money.

They didn't need a number nine last year but with De Bruyne not being fit -I hear he has an ankle injury from the summer - it might then accelerate the need to get a striker in.

I think it would be a nice move for Harry Kane but if he stays at Tottenham I also get that.

  5. 'Silva has a chance to put himself in the shop window'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

Manchester City v Norwich (15:00 BST)

    James Collins
Former Wales defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Maybe Bernardo Silva does want to move on but a club won't sign a player who's not willing to play for the club he's at currently - you've still got to go and put that to the back of your mind.

If he does want a move, there's a lot of speculation, but if he does he's got a perfect chance to put himself in the shop window to go out and perform.

  6. 'I'm expecting a reaction from Leeds'published at 14:47 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Leeds v Everton (15:00 BST)

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Everton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Elland Road will be 100% behind Marcelo Bielsa and behind the boys, It was a nightmare start to the campaign last weekend against Manchester United. Up until the equaliser I thought the game was relatively even in terms of attacking threat and possession but then of course the overall quality crept in.

I'm expecting to see a reaction - high intensity and overloads in wide areas and breaking the lines. The closing down wasn't up to standard either - I'm not expecting to see the same sort of result firstly, but performance either.

Be interesting to see how Everton approach this game. Much of the talk about the Rafa Benitez iteration of the side has been regarding their intent to shift the ball forward quickly out wide and get it in the middle to exploit the obvious attacking talents of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray certainly have pace in their locker.

Leeds' strength is in wide areas through the skill and speed of Raphinha and Jack Harrison. Could be that whichever side gets a grip on the flanks will come out on top.

  9. 'Normal service will resume'published at 14:44 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

Man City v Norwich (15:00 BST)

    Joe Cole
Ex-Chelsea and England midfielder, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live

Man City will win the game comfortably. You have to understand with Pep Guardiola that there will be a hangover from the game in the Champions League final.

They thought that was going to be a procession - the crown jewel in Pep's work of art. It didn't work out like that. They have lost arguably the biggest talisman at the club in Sergio Aguero.

I expected teething problems there. I didn't expect them to lose at Tottenham. But they will win against Norwich and it will be normal service resumed. They will dominate possession and score goals.

I really want to see what he is doing with Jack Grealish and how he is fitting into that system.

  12. Clarets' losing run goes onpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley, meanwhile, have lost five in a row in the Premier League for the first time ever - either side of the summer break, of course - last doing so in any division in the 2008-09 Championship campaign.

They have also lost 11 of their 15 Premier League matches against Liverpool (winning two and drawing two) - that's more defeats than the Clarets have suffered against any other side in the competition (losing 10 against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City).

  13. The stats...published at 14:35 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

    Liverpool

Liverpool have won their last seven Premier League games, as many victories as they enjoyed in their previous 20 games in the competition (D5 L8) and their longest winning streak in the league since a run of 18 ending in February 2020.

The Reds have strung together four consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League for the first time since a run of seven between December 2019 and January 2020.

At 18 years and 139 days, Harvey Elliott became the 10th youngest player to start a Premier League game for Liverpool and the youngest for the Reds since Ben Woodburn in April 2017.

Since his debut for Liverpool in September 2020, Diogo Jota has netted 15 goals in all competitions for the Reds, a figure only Mohamed Salah (29) can better, while the Portuguese has posted the best minutes per goal rate of any player for the club in that time (127).

Virgil van Dijk made his 48th home Premier League appearance for the club, losing none of those games (W43 D5); only Lee Sharpe played more home games for one club in the competition without losing any of them (59 with Manchester United).

Sadio Mane became the fifth player to hit the 50-home goal milestone for Liverpool in the Premier League (Fowler 85, Gerrard 69, Owen 63, Salah 56).

Since the start of 2018-19, Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has registered 33 assists in the Premier League, a figure only Kevin De Bruyne can better in that time (34) - he has provided nine assists for Mane in the Premier League, four more than for any other Liverpool player.

The first chant from the home fans at Elland Road, proclaiming "we are Leeds" as the players come out to warm-up. As the stadium announced has just said, it is 534 days since these Leeds fans were all together to watch a game at this stadium.

And just to make things fun and inject a bit of the gritty north into proceedings, it's started raining again.

This is exactly what Raphinha, Junior Firpo and Rodrigo signed up for!

    FT: Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

    Alan Hutton
Former Scotland defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a massive plus having Virgil van Dijk back and Jordan Henderson makes a huge difference in the midfield. Liverpool have played well, all the team have linked up together. I think we're seeing a really strong Liverpool team this year that are definitely going to be challenging.

They don't look like they will be making any type of mistake with Van Dijk in that back-four.

Burnley could have grabbed two late on.

Ashley Barnes is one-on-one with Alisson, but the Liverpool goalkeeper makes a superb save low down to maintain the shutout.
