Can we take a moment to congratulate Burnley for not only picking numbers 1 - 11, but for also putting them in the right positions. Number 6 in centre mid always upsets me. Love it.

Sean Dyche is furious as Johann Berg Gudmundsson is blocked off the ball by Reds full-back Kostas Tsimikas when looking to get on the end of a through ball.

The Greek full-back does lean his shoulder in after coming across but referee Mike Dean waves play on.

Seven minutes played, 83 to go and Burnley are already time wasting.

Referee Mike Dean is not happy at how much time goalkeeper Nick Pope is taking over a goal kick, having a sip of water before leisurely placing the ball down.

Dean walks over to Clarets skipper Ben Mee.

That's a warning, he will have said.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

End-to-end action at Anfield and Burnley rattle the post through Dwight McNeil's zipping, low effort.

It came after Chris Wood broke in behind and laid the ball off for his Clarets team-mate but would not have counted anyway as a late flag is hoisted into the air.

Burnley could have silenced the home crowd in the opening minute as the ball ricochets off Virgil van Dijk and almost falls into the path of Chris Wood inside the area, but Alisson is quickly at the New Zealand striker's feet to smother.

  9. Anfield avenue name change for 97th victim of Hillsborough disasterpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

A walkway outside Liverpool's Anfield stadium has been renamed in tribute to a man who became the 97th victim of the Hillsborough disaster.

Andrew Devine, 55, died in July, 32 years after suffering life-changing injuries in the 1989 terrace crush.

A coroner ruled he was the 97th fatality and was unlawfully killed.

The club, which is holding a minute's silence for Mr Devine at the Premier League game today, said it had changed 96 Avenue to 97 Avenue.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport on the return of fans at Anfield: "It's so long ago that we had that. We had two friendly games with some fans and I never had friendly games like this. It's more about us and what we can make of it. We are never completely independent of the opponent. We have to make a proper game of it."

On the changes to his starting XI: Fabinho and Ox are both out for personal reasons. Milner by Milner standards it is not an injury, but the medical department didn't let him out so that's it."

On Burnley being Liverpool's bogey team: "We lost after 68 home games to Burnley. I think we won more often than not but we know it’s always a difficult game. I couldn’t respect more what Sean is doing. He works in the circumstances he works and they do the best job you can imagine. They play football, they are direct, they are hard to beat. I respect that, so it’s always difficult. We are a good football team as well so lets give it a try."

I think it's safe to say that having no home fans at Anfield last season did effect them because going to Anfield is a Cathedral of noise, I can still remember that, it never leaves you.

It's an incredible atmosphere at their ground and they lost a few home games last season because of it so I think they'll look at this Burnley game as revenge because that was the end of holding on to their title last season.

After eight-10 games if Burnley haven't done too well then you can start to panic - if they only have one or two wins in those games. Sometimes you have to let it breathe. On paper it's the same old season, the same old players and scraping through. Sean Dyche has his hands tied because they don't have money to throw about. To keep them in the league for as long as he has with that squad is very impressive.

Burnley fans need to be careful what they wish for.

If anyone should know, then it's an account called @SquadNos on Twitter who say: "Burnley become the first team since Charlton Athletic in the second game of 1998-99 to start a PL match with the players whose squad numbers are 1-11."

On fans returning to Anfield: "Having supporters back is great for everyone. We want to play our part in the spectacle but make no mistake about it we want to win."

It really is an amazing signing for them (Chelsea), he had unfinished business with them and it will be really interesting to see how Arsenal can cope with him

He's probably the most talked about player by any manager wherever he goes because he sometimes plays like a pussycat but when he's a tiger, he really is difficult to play against.

He's at his peak and it's a fantastic signing for a team who have just won the Champions League

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp labelled a group of fans "idiots" after alleged homophobic chants were heard during the side's 3-0 victory at Norwich last Saturday.

Klopp was speaking to Paul Amann, the founder of Liverpool LGBT+ fans group Kop Outs, on Thursday.

"I never understand why you would sing a song if it was against something in a football stadium," he said.

The club have said the chants were "offensive and inappropriate".
