    Michael Owen
Former Real Madrid striker on BT Sport

This game will go down in history. We have seen some unbelievable Champions League ties and this is another one.

I couldn't see any way Real could get back into this. They didn't look like scoring but then Karim Benzema... What a player!

  2. 'PSG pressed the self destruct button'published at 23:09 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

FT: Real Madrid 3-1 PSG (3-2 agg)

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BT Sport

This isn't something that is a surprise because we have seen this time and again in the knockouts of the Champions League as PSG press the self destruct button.

It is mentality, maybe the culture of the club. This isn't something that is new at the club. They have fantastic talent in the squad but when the mentality isn't right on the day, you have to stay in the game. They didn't do that. It is part of the ingrained culture at PSG.

  3. 'I learn to enjoy the moments'published at 23:08 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

FT: Man City 0-0 Sporting (5-0 agg)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to BT Sport: "I am very pleased because in both games we deserved to be in the Champions League quarter-finals.

"CJ Egan-Riley played really good and didn't miss one ball. He is a seven. He is nothing exceptional in anything but that is a good sign as a defender as he doesn't make mistakes. Scott Carson could play and we gave 45 minutes to the other guys."

On higher expectations for City in Europe: "It's a good sign. The people didn't care what we were and now step-by-step the club grew and now for many years we are there in this competitions.

"Now we are again in the quarter-finals as the best eight teams in Europe. I learn to enjoy the moments. I celebrate it because I know how difficult it is. When you go through every opponent is difficult. Now it's time to congratulate everyone, focus on the Premier League then next week we will see the draw."

  4. 'We showed we're a big club'published at 23:07 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

    Real Madrid
    Real Madrid

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema: "In the first leg, we have to say we were lucky to leave there only losing 1-0. But we knew it would be different in Madrid.

"We pushed, we conceded a goal, but we were confident that we would have chances. It's a big Champions League evening and we showed we're a big club.

"We knew they're a team that if you put them under pressure, they don't panic, but it's more difficult for them.

"When you take the ball off them, when you put them under pressure, they can't connect with the three up front.

"It's the problem of all the teams that want to play the ball out from the back. When they're pressed, it causes them problems."

  5. 'We lost the tie in 10 minutes'published at 23:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

FT: Real Madrid 3-1 PSG (3-2 agg)

    PSG

Paris St-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino: "The first goal completely changed the game. For an hour, we were better than Real Madrid. The atmosphere changed in the stadium.

"We made some mistakes after that, we can't say we didn't. The worst feeling is that we were the better side, but we lost the tie in 10 minutes.

"Paris St-Germain have been chasing the Champions League for a number of years now. I'm really disappointed, upset – but these things can happen. The next few weeks are not going to be easy."

  6. 'PSG players don't care when it gets tough'published at 23:05 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

FT: Real Madrid 3-1 PSG (3-2 agg)

    Steve McManaman
Former Real Madrid winger on BT Sport

The players are too powerful. When the going gets tough they do not care.

They just play whatever the want to play. The top three are amazing footballers but they don't work hard enough.

PSG made mistakes constantly in the second half. You have to give Real credit because even when they are down they stay in the game.

We have seen managers come and go and they cannot sort it out. They come, they get knocked out of the Champions League and get sacked and then move on.

You can't have four or five not fancy it when the going gets tough.

More from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on Scott Carson: "We are delighted. He is very important to us behind the scenes.

"His chemistry with Ederson and Zack Steffen is fundamental in the locker room, people listen when he speaks. He made the biggest save."

On James McAtee: "Macca is quite calm and a guy who is in a good direction. But, yeah he got minutes in the second half. He has played previous games.

"He knows the rhythm. He has the quality but has to understand the position a bit better."

"We lost the first leg, they went 1-0 up, but our fans pushed us to give everything right to the final whistle."

On his first goal: "It's not a mistake [by Donnarumma]. It's pressure from the whole team. The goalkeeper waited and waited, he lost the ball and it was a goal. He should have cleared it, simple as that."
