Rangnick seems convinced that Utd played well against Spurs. Not what I saw - bailed out by Ronaldo. Which to be fair is their best hope tonight too.

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick speaking to BT Sport: "We are fully aware that we need both the team and the fans on top form.

"We need to be ready and be on a high energetic level right from the start of the game.

"It was about fresh legs but also to play at a high level of aggression and energy and that's why I started with this team.

"Antoine Griezmann is not much different to Angel Correa. They always ask for the ball in short spaces so we have to be aware of that."

Noodles: Looking at that line up for United I'm putting my money on United losing. So disappointing.

Judith in Rhyl: I'm convinced that Raphael and Harry will find a winning formula. Harry was much better against Spurs apart from the obvious indiscretion. Keep it up boys. COYR.

Man Utd v Atletico Madrid (20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick on Atletico Madrid: "Atletico don't mind the opposition having the ball. They have had less than 50% possession in their last league games. We are aware of that.

"It would be important to score the first goal ourselves. It's very important not to concede first.

"We are aware of that too - we want to try not to concede at all if possible, but it will be important to score the first goal ourselves."

Atletico will see that Manchester United are very vulnerable at the back. If they can get at their back four, they will get chances, they know that.

They will not come here to sit and wait. Atletico will come out quickly.

Will David de Gea keep a clean sheet against his former team tonight?

He made 84 appearances for Atletico, keeping 22 clean sheets in two years.

Remember, the away goal advantage doesn't exist any more so Manchester United have to win - whether that be in 90 minutes, extra time or a penalty shootout.

Manchester United need to use their width, with Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga, and obviously they will have Cristiano Ronaldo full of confidence following his hat-trick against Tottenham. They are better on the front foot.

This is a tournament they have to look to try to win. If they get knocked out tonight then what have the fans got to look forward to? Not a lot, in my opinion.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente, whose goals at Anfield in this stage two years ago knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League, said his team-mates are wary of the threat posed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“When you have players like that, you always need to be on your guard,” he said.

“They have some other great players that play at a really high level and we have to be aware of all of them.”
