And still the chances come! City should be 5-3 up!
Raheem Sterling, recently on for Gabriel Jesus, and Ruben Dias are both there for a low ball to the back post and the latter steers it wide.
Moments later, Dias again reaches a ball into the box and pokes wide.

Karim Benzema (14) is now the outright goalscorer in this season's Champions League. He surpasses Robert Lewandowski (13).Before this season, Benzema never scored more than seven CL goals in a single campaign (7 for Real in 2011/12).

This Real side are something else.
They simply refuse to lie down.

Oh my word. We have seen absolutely everything in this game. Incredible piece of skill and bravery. To have the nerve and dink it straight down the middle takes some doing that does. What a game we've had here this evening!
Karim Benzema
Panenka! That is utterly ridiculous!
Only world-class players at the top of their game pull this off in these circumstances.
Karim Benzema does the sublime and chips his penalty down the middle as Ederson doves to his right.
Who even thinks of doing that in a game like this, let alone pulls it off?!

There's no doubt about it that his arm is up high and wide.
Man City 4-2 Real Madrid
Another twist!
Oh, Aymeric Laporte. He leaves his arm up as he rises to challenge Karim Benzema in the box. The ball strikes it and the ref points to the spot.

Real Madrid come again and threaten!
Karim Benzema is found on the right and his low ball towards the penalty spot is hammered away by a vigilant City defender.

That is Luka Modric's last act. He is replaced by ex-Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos.

Oh, they nearly do hit back!
Luka Modric's low shot rolls just past the post!
Man City 4-2 Real Madrid
Can Real hit back again?
They would have been fine with taking 3-2 back to Spain. 4-2, not so much.
Man City 4-2 Real Madrid
This is just wonderful!
Savour the last 13 minutes, everyone.
Man City 4-2 Real Madrid
Oh, wow, so close to 5-2!
Riyad Mahrez weaves through a host of Real defenders to give himself an angle to shoot, but sends his low shot across the face of goal and just past the far post.
The away defence had no idea what to do.

Well done the referee! He did really, really well in allowing the advance. There's no doubt it's a foul but it falls kindly for Bernardo Silva and he pings it in from a tight angle. Thibaut Courtois is just stood there, he's static. What a strike though. The pace beats Courtois because he thinks the referee will give offside.
Bernardo Silva
What a finish!
Bernardo Silva picks the ball up after what is a clear foul on Oleksandr Zinchenko on the edge of the box. He takes a touch and lashes a fierce finish into the top corner. Sensational!
The ref's advantage for City set Silva up for that. Fatally, the Real defence paused and gave him the space to hit it.
Man City 3-2 Real Madrid
City want a free-kick as Kevin de Bruyne is tackled near the Real box. Nothing doing. It then takes three City players to halt Vinicius Junior from, breaking.
Barely got time to blink.
Man City 3-2 Real Madrid
Second change for Real.
Eduardo Camavinga is on for Rodrygo.
Man City 3-2 Real Madrid
Real make a mess of a great chance!
Vinicius Junior causes an error from Ruben Dias, who allows the ball to drop near his own box. The Brazilian manages to send the ball to Rodrygo, but after driving to the box the forward opts for an ill-judged pass and sends the ball out of play.

Again it's the centre-half coming up and finding himself in the six-yard box. Aymeric Laporte gets on the end of it really well but it's straight at Thibaut Courtois.
