We gave Thiago the kiss of death before the game talking him up. I don't think he's passed to a red jersey all night.

that goal just sums up why Trent doesn't start for England. So weak defensively. Is it time he followed Bale's lead and moved further forward?

Well you can't say it wasn't coming.

With the Lo Celso incident I wondered if Villarreal would regret it. One long diagonal ball and a good ball from Capoue. Coquelin gets inside Trent Alexander-Arnold, level with the far post six yards out. He says "I'm going to make it mine" and powers the header past Alisson.

    Incredible finish.

This is unreal if you're a Villarreal fan. The side in yellow have come out and taken Liverpool to pieces. This is a Reds side chasing a quadruple remember.

They need to do something here to stem the home tide or that potential four trophy haul will be gone.

    IT'S ALL SQUARE!

It has been coming. A long ball to the right finds Etienne Capoue. He Cruyff turns into space and chips in a cross that is met and headed home by Francis Coquelin. Trent Alexander-Arnold was beaten so easily in the air.

    This place is going barmy!

Gerard Moreno wasn't fully fit coming into this game now. He's not moving as well as the home side would like. One to watch.

He's doing a fine job up top for the home side. Losing him would be a blow.

Sloppy from Liverpool. Lo Celso tries to toe it round Alisson. It hits Alisson's arm but he does take Lo Celso out in the process.

Lo Celso is on his way down and that's the key. The referee got that spot on. Lo Celso was looking for that.

Oh, huge call from the ref!

Villarreal break forward and Gerard Moreno has room pick a pass through for the charging Giovano lo Celso. The Villarreal man gets a touch and turns ahead of the sliding Alisson challenge.

The crowd and home players scream for a penalty. But the ref doesn't buy it.

It's a big moment and looks like the right call as Lo Celso turned and initiated the contact.

Can't remember the last time I saw a Liverpool side give the ball away so much? It's not sticking up front at all.

It's not just physically, either. They're struggling to string passes together, failing to complete simple lay-offs at times. Is it nerves? Have Villarreal just unsettled them?

It is just not clicking for Liverpool.

They launch a free-kick to the left side of the box for Sadio Mane but his lay-off goes straight to a man in yellow.

Francis Coquelin loves throwing himself to the floor.

He has been down a few times now after minimal contact, the latest coming as he runs into Naby Keita and chucks every limb he has out in a splash to the turf.

Liverpool are really rattled here. It's a rare sight.

Even Virgil van Dijk is giving away needless free-kicks.
