A bit better from Liverpool. But not much.
Trent Alexander-Arnold gets two chances to cross from the right. His first delivery is punched away, his second is caught by Geronimo Rulli.
Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
Luis Diaz wants a free-kick after another coming together with Juan Foyth. The full-back is just stronger, though. Villarreal have been stronger across the pitch so far.

The Liverpool fans have been unbearable the past few weeks. I hope this humbles them.

I was looking forward to tomorrow night for obvious reasons. But this is ace!

Luis Diaz's shot from range is blocked. Liverpool keep the attack alive, but Trent Alexander-Arnold can only steer his cross behind under pressure.

Did Thiago give the ball away once in the first leg? He's struggling to find a man in red tonight.
Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
Trent Alexander-Arnold chips a cross in and it hits Sadio Mane before going behind. The Liverpool forward didn't know much about it.

Very much game on. Interesting change from Jurgen Klopp at half-time. Liverpool have to match Villarreal's aggression in this second half.
Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
Luis Diaz runs at Juan Foyth for the first time, but the Villarreal full-back comes out on top.
Soon after, Mohamed Salah is fouled in the home half. This is a chance to get the ball in the box. The centre-backs are up.
Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
Jordan Henderson is immediately out warming up for Liverpool.
If things don't improve quickly for Liverpool you'd have to imagine he'll be sent on to try and change it.
Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
I don't think anyone an hour ago imagined we'd be heading in to the last quarter of this tie with it all square.
Yet here we are.
Liverpool have made a change. It is an attacking one, with Luis Diaz on for Diogo Jota.

Liverpool- disgraceful. To turn up to an away ground with such a lack of backbone when you know what's on the line. Klopp should have had Henderson on for Keita after 20 minutes, how could a manager with his experience not see so clearly that *that* change was needed from minute one?

Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
As it stands, this is Liverpool's (66%) lowest passing accuracy in a game in all comps since the Champions League final vs Spurs in 2019 (64.3%).
Not a surprising stat. They've really struggled to thread moves together. Part of it is the sheer work-rate of the home side. But some of these players need to take personal responsibility too.

Francis Coq-au-vin? He's making a meal of every challenge!!

Villarreal look very comfortable. They've gone in with so much confidence - I don't know how they have since they were outplayed in the first leg.
I've never seen Liverpool play like this before. Ever.

Richard T: Too much talk of "the quad". 4 to zero can easily happen in three weeks.
Christian Evans: An absolute travesty to the game if Liverpool go out to this bunch
Marc Richards: This is the exact reason why the Super League can’t ever go ahead. The hope and dreams of all Villarreal fans… the worry and anxiety of all Liverpool fans right now… football is just the best.

One team are motivated and up for this. Looking at the body language they look like they think they're beaten. They're well capable of turning this round but they have to do so much better in the second half.
Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
What a half of football from Villarreal.
They have bossed Liverpool from start to finish and obliterated the Reds' first-leg lead.
The next 15 minutes are huge for Jurgen Klopp and his team.

Where has this insipid performance come from? I didn't see this coming. Liverpool have been rattled.
Villarreal 2-0 Liverpool (agg: 2-2)
Villarreal and Unai Emery won't want half-time.
Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp will be absolutely desperate for the whistle.
