    West Ham 1-0 Genk

And now Aaron Cresswell wins a corner of his own at the other end.

    He'll take it too...

It's flicked away but only to Andriy Yarmolenko. He cuts in onto his left foot on the edge of the box but he completely skies it.

Paul Onuachu won't reach a cross from the left but it's kept in play by Junya Ito.

He wins a corner off Aaron Cresswell but it's cleared by West Ham.

  3. CLOSE!published at 51 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Genk

    Ooh. A nervy one.

Junya Ito steps inside Nikola Vlasic on the right and tees up Kristian Thorstvedt. He takes a touch then strikes it low.

It pops up dangerously from a deflection but luckily for Alphonse Areola, flicks straight up and at him.

    West Ham 1-0 Genk

Genk are trying to keep possession but they have numbers in the box and choose to go all the way back rather than put a cross in.

Eventually, Declan Rice robs it off Junya Ito.

  5. Postpublished at 48 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Genk

Aaron Cresswell hooks it over the top but it's way too long for Jarrod Bowen.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Genk

Change at the break for Genk. Centre-back Carlos Cuesta is off. 21-year-old Mujaid Sadick is on.

    Presumably that's an injury concern.

Sameh: One of the most underrated defenders. Loved his time at WBA.

    HT: West Ham 1-0 Genk

Aaron Cresswell has been comfortably West Ham's best player so far for me.

He was making some excellent runs down the left, as you can see from his touch map below, and ultimately delivered the cross for Craig Dawson's opener.

The perfect time to score. Can West Ham build on this?

  12. goal

GOAL - West Ham 1-0 Genkpublished at 45+1 min

    Craig Dawson

    They can!

Aaron Cresswell's outswinging corner is met by Craig Dawson. It's a long, looping header and it takes a deflection as it just creeps under the crossbar.

There's a defender and the goalkeeper trying to reach it on the line for Genk but Dawson has given the Hammers a much-needed breakthrough on the stroke of half time.

  13. CLOSE!published at 45+1 min

    West Ham 0-0 Genk

    What a chance!

Aaron Cresswell is slipped in on the left. He pulls it across the six-yard area and it's almost flicked in by a Genk defender before Maarten Vandevoordt eventually gathers it in.

West Ham have a corner now too. Can they get one before the break?

  14. Postpublished at 44 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Genk

More really nice play from the left and Theo Bongonda beats two players.

It's eventually crossed in by Gerardo Arteaga but West Ham can break on the far side through Nikola Vlasic.

  15. Postpublished at 42 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Genk

Nikola Vlasic wins a free-kick inside his own half. He's not really been able to get involved so far.

  16. Postpublished at 40 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Genk

Tomas Soucek has been a threat in the box for West Ham still. It's lifted in from the left but his header is blocked from close range.

    Solid defending from Genk.

  17. CLOSE!published at 38 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Genk

    Another let off!

It's a simple ball in from Gerardo Arteaga, Paul Onuachu wins the header and Alphonse Areola has come all the way out and missed it.

If Onuachu's header was on target, it was in. Instead, it rolls inches past the open net.

  18. Rangers race into lead against Brondbypublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 21 October 2021

What a start for Rangers, racing into a 2-0 lead at home to Brondby.

Leon Balogun opened the scoring before Kemar Roofe doubled the lead.

    You can follow that here.

  19. Postpublished at 36 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Genk

Declan Rice is pulling the strings in the middle but West Ham are still lacking that edge.

Nikola Vlasic has just drifted offside on the left.

  20. Postpublished at 33 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Genk

Andriy Yarmolenko is trying to be creative with a few passes in between the lines and flicked over the back four but he hasn't quite nailed the execution.

His latest is an attempt to play in Ben Johnson on the right but there's too much pace on it.
