  5. Tammy Abraham - the toast of Romepublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 25 May 2022

What a season Tammy Abraham is having at Roma.

While sitting on the bench waiting to come on for Chelsea against an all-but-relegated Fulham, he could have hardly envisaged how different things would be looking a year on.

The striker is coming towards the end of a stunning first season at Roma, where he is their top scorer with 17 goals - the most scored by an Englishman in a Serie A season - and is idolised by their fans.

And this evening Abraham will have the chance to cement legendary status at the Italian side as they make their bid for a first European trophy for 50 years when they play Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League final.

It could be said that the move to Rome has been the making of Abraham, or it could be that the once out-of-favour Chelsea striker is simply being given the platform to display the quality he already possessed.

Just have a read of this piece from my colleague Gary Rose, who goes through all of that and more.

Jose Mourinho's last European trophy came in 2017 when he won the Europa League with Manchester United.

And he has a couple of players from that squad with him now at Roma in English defender Chris Smalling and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Armenian international Mkhitaryan has not played since April due to a hamstring injury but has returned to training prior to the final and is straight back in.

"It was important for him and I trust how he feels about his physical shape. He said he is ready to play," Mourinho said.

What do we reckon. More joy, hugs and smiles for Mourinho and his players later or will Feyenoord do a number on the Italian side? Hit the thumbs up if you fancy Mourinho's side to triumph.

Given Roma's recent record this man is probably the man for the job.

Jose Mourinho has never lost a European final and would be the first manager to win all three major European trophies - having already won the Champions League, Europa League and the Uefa Cup.

When he was appointed in May 2021 his remit was pretty much about developing his squad and trying to get them back into a position to win trophies. Could this be a perfect first step.

"If I win I will become the first one to win all European trophies, but that's only if I win," Mourinho said.

"The 'Special One' story is an old story. It was when I was at the beginning (of my career). When you have more maturity and stability, you think more about the people and less about yourself.

"It's an old story. I don't believe in magic. When you arrive at a final after a season of work, the work is done. It's the team's moment, not the moment of an individual."

The qualification spot to the Europa League which comes with the Conference League crown will not be required by either of these sides.

Roma secured a top-six finish in the Serie A standings with Feyenoord ending the Eredivisie in third place.

So with that all settled it's just 5m (around £4.25,) euros and this bit of silverware to play for.

Roma reached the semi-final of the Europa League last term before being beaten 8-5 on aggregate against Manchester United.

They also lost in the last four against Liverpool in the Champions League in 2017-18 but you would be heading back to their defeat against Inter Milan in the Uefa Cup for their last European final.

Domestically, a star-studded squad containing Cafu, Francesco Totti and Gabriel Batistuta won Serie A in 2000-01 but the club has struggled in recent years and is seeking its first trophy since they lifted the Coppa Italia in 2008.

Feyenoord's first-choice goalkeeper Justin Bijlow makes his comeback from injury this evening.

The Netherlands international has not played since 10 March and had surgery on a foot problem which ordinarily kept him out for the rest of the season.

He previously kept one clean sheet and conceded six goals in five group games and the first leg of the round of 16. "Things are going very well with Bijlow," said boss Arne Slot.

"He's been training with the squad for a week now without problems."

What a game to return for eh.

Not so great if you're Ofir Marciano. The former Hibernian goalkeeper has deputised and played in the last three rounds of the competition.

Aside from the fans inside the 21,690-capacity Arena Kombetare, the respective fan zones are jam packed, while back in Italy around 45,000 Roma fans will be cheering on from the Stadio Olimpico.

A sell-out crowd is also expected at Feyenoord's De Kuip stadium. So basically almost 100,000 people sat watching in grounds well away from the action.

Roma manager Jose Mourinho has said his club's fans "would have filled" Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu, which has a capacity of 81,044 for this one.
