    Peterborough 0-0 Derby

Derby fans boo Jack Marriott's every touch, but the fact they keep booing tells you he is continually getting involved.

Posh happy to patiently wait their time to strike, try to lull Derby into a false sense of security with passes around the box, but the Rams are standing firm.

Dan Umphray: It’s not enough for Rooney to start Jozwiak after his solid Euros exploits for a potential week 2 six pointer with 2 relegation candidates. Makes no sense.

Free kick for Derby sails all the way through for a Posh throw.

Too high for Colin Kazim-Richards in the penalty area.

Festy Ebosele shows his promise with a super push and run to go down the right for Derby but Mark Beevers steps across to crudely block.

    Booking for his trouble.

    Danger here.

    Peterborough 0-0 Derby

    Closest Posh have come.

Dan Butler sends in a curling, high cross to the back post from the left and big Jonson Clarke-Harris gets above Craig Forsyth to meet it but can only spoon it up over the bar.

    That's the game-plan for Peterborough.

    Peterborough 0-0 Derby

Peterborough really stretching the pitch, stretching the play with their two wing backs bombing on.

Dan Butler on the left in particular has been a key outlet.

Tom Lawrence has just tried a very cheeky dink from half-way for Derby County, but the effort sails wide to the relief of Christy Pym.

Oh Jack Marriott. The first-touch lets him down.

Brilliant work by Peterborough winger Joel Randall to get down the left and as he approaches the box, he sends a perfect cut-back to Marriott.

The striker's touch takes him away from goal and Derby scramble to block and clear.

That is one he'll rue. He'll be thinking about that for a few minutes.

    Peterborough 0-0 Derby

Best attack so far comes from Derby as league debutant Festy Ebosele carves a route down the left and drives in a cross which is turned behind.

The corner comes in, it's half-cleared and when it's sent back in, Graeme Shinnie trickles a low shot into Christy Pym's hands.

    Peterborough 0-0 Derby

Derby go long and direct looking to get Festy Ebosele in behind but the ball is too long and goes through to Peterborough keeper Christy Pym.

The home side will be disappointed they haven't got into more dangerous areas, but they will be happy with the containment of the Rams so far.

Jack Marriott is almost away but Derby smother him. There is a threat if Posh can release him.

    Peterborough 0-0 Derby

Good to know the age-old war of chants between fans has not gone away. Just a second ago there was a quite audible, and explicit, questioning of support. If you catch my drift.

Derby are trying to move Posh about with sharp passing but the harrying and hassling has been ramped up by the Posh midfield in particular.

Joe Ward seems to be taking up the mantle of Posh's midfield pitbull right now. Snapping away.

    Peterborough 0-0 Derby

I always think it's slightly odd when an outfield player takes a goal kick, and Curtis Davies is doing that for Derby.

The Rams look to move the ball around from the back but as soon as they get into the Posh half, the hosts press up and squeeze them back.

Ravel Morrison trying to impose himself on the game. Craig Forsyth just a loose touch away from getting in behind after a tidy one-two down the left with skipper Tom Lawrence.

Jack Marriott putting himself about against his old club for Posh, who he rejoined this summer.

He had two cracks at a cross, the first was cleared and the second blocked.

Posh's Jonson Clarke-Harris is the figurehead of their attack and they're already keeping Derby's defence interested.

Both sides just feeling each other out at the moment.

A loose pass from Kelle Roos though just handed the initiative to Peterborough and a smart break pushed the ball out wide but a cross from the left was overhit.

Posh break up another Derby attack and are back into possession.

So, Posh back at home are backed by a raucous, vocal crowd.

The roar from all sides of the ground is a wonderful sound.

There are some beaming smiles among the Posh home support, happy to be back in their special place and sharing the experience with friends and family.

Sunglasses being donned too, which bodes well for the weather this afternoon.

Derby have made the reasonably short trip in good numbers too. There's plenty of buzz about the Weston Homes Stadium.

Given the kind of summer that Derby have had, one of which even the most creative soap opera writer would have struggled to pitch, you'd like to think boss Wayne Rooney is just glad to get on with the football.

While off-field concerns continue to rumble off the field, Rooney is focusing on trying to put out a team - having had the embargo eased of course after the financial side effects of such wrangling away from the paddock.

Saturday's opener - a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield was a satisfactory result; while Rooney has at least been able to draw on the Rams' prolific production line to stock up his squad - with two 20-year-olds in his starting XI and five teenagers filling up the bench.

Thankfully for Rams fans, the likes of Colin Kazim Richards, Graeme Shinnie and veteran Curtis Davies at the back retain some key experience; while one of the few players Rooney has been able to bring in - Ravel Morrison - gets another chance to prove he can make the best of his undoubted talents.

  17. Posh new season optimism blown away?published at 12:25 British Summer Time 14 August 2021

Peterborough fans exuding the spirit of optimism going into the opening weekend of the EFL's return, and their bounce back into the second-tier, was well and truly blown away after a nightmare kick-off to the campaign.

Their first game back in the Championship after eight seasons away was a rude awakening; Luton Town powering to a 3-0 win, and an alarming 4-0 EFL Cup reverse against Plymouth followed.

Granted, boss Darren Ferguson has been without stars Siriki Dembele, summer signing Jack Marriott [pictured above] - who will be itching to feature against his former club, and Jack Taylor through injury.

There is plenty of promise though about the Posh, with ex-Forest and Lincoln playmaker Jorge Grant and another rough diamond from the Exeter City ranks in Joel Randall, added to Ferguson's squad this summer.

One man who won't be involved today is Posh forward Sam Szmodics...

He's got a very good reason for it, to be fair. He and his partner have had a new daughter.

Best wishes to the Szmodics family.

While we've got a full programme of EFL magic to bring you between now and about five o'clock, our journey starts today in East Anglia.

Peterborough United take on Derby County in our early kick-off, which gets under way at 12:30 BST.

    Without further ado.
