Cardiff have made a strong start to the season with two wins and two draws from their opening four matches.

Mick McCarthy's men will look to continue their unbeaten league start today against their rivals from across the border.

He'll hope giant centre-back Aden Flint can continue his excellent goalscoring start to the campaign, the former Bristol City man has scored four times in his past two league games.

Nigel Pearson's men have taken four points from their first four games and will be looking to make up for their home defeat by Swansea last week.

It's hard to imagine that any Championship club could be in a more parlous state that Derby County but local rivals Nottingham Forest seem to have managed it so far this season.

Forest are pointless from their four league games this season and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek with a thumping 4-0 defeat by Wolves.

Boss Chris Hughton acknowledged that he "understood" the feelings of fans and the 62-year-old will know his team need to halt their poor start to the season today.

The Rams endured a nightmare summer with a transfer embargo and at one point were even threatened with being demoted to League One.

All that considered, Wayne Rooney's men have actually made a bright start to the season with five points from four games.

We're only a handful of games into the new season but today's early kick offs in the Championship are absolutely massive for the four teams involved.

We've got an East Midlands derby between Derby and Nottingham Forest and in south Wales Cardiff take on Bristol City in the Severnside derby.

Forest have lost all four league games so far this campaign and defeat at the Rams could leave boss Chris Hughton out of a job before August is over.

Victory for Mick McCarty's Cardiff would give them bragging rights AND send them to the top of the table, albeit probably for a very short period and we're five games into the season. Still, not to be sniffed at eh?
