1. THE SPFL IS BACK!published at 15:01 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

On the eve of the 2021-22 season, BBC Scotland is here to preview the new campaign.

We'll be looking at every club from every division, as well as hearing from pundits and fans about your side's chances.

Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get started with the Premiership...

  2. ABERDEENpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

The 2021-22 campaign will the first in nine years that Aberdeen have started without Derek McInnes at the helm.

There is a new feel about the Dons, with ex-player Stephen Glass and new club captain Scott Brown leading the charge.

Experienced Premiership duo Declan Gallagher and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas may turn out to be shrewd acquisitions, along with American striker Christian Ramirez - who joined from MLS side Houston Dynamo.

With promising early season European showings, it already looks like the team who limped in fourth last time will be more focused on attack.

What are Dons fans expecting?published at 15:00 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

John Thomson: "The famous Aberdeen are winning the league."

Ross Turner: "Aberdeen to finish third and have good cup runs."

    Jack Middleton: "Treble."

    Bold, Jack. Very bold.

  4. CELTICpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

For a long while it looked like the appointment of former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was a done deal at Parkhead, but instead it is Ange Postecoglou who is charged with leading the Celtic revival after the club's first season without a trophy since 2009-10.

The big question facing the 55-year-old is will he be given time to build a credible threat to Rangers?

The former Australia manager is highly regarded as a coach, but has no European experience and has inherited a squad that requires major surgery.

    Leanne Crichton
    Former Scotland international

    Champions: Rangers

    Relegated: Ross County

Best signing: Scott Brown to Aberdeen

Player of the year: Ryan Kent (Rangers)

  6. DUNDEEpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

After a two-year absence, Dundee are back in the top flight. Now James McPake needs to solidify the club's Premiership status.

The Dens Park fanbase may demand more than just safety, but the last thing they need is a quick relegation.

With the squad at McPake's disposal, a comfortable finish isn’t beyond his side.

But just ask Hearts fans about suffering relegation with a strong squad on paper...

What's success for Dundee this season?published at 14:58 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Dylan McLaren: "Top six."

Maurice Fraser: "Although I would settle for 10th, I think we are capable of more with the squad we have now."

    Gareth Postans: "Survival."

  8. DUNDEE UNITEDpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

After months of speculation, there was an inevitability about Micky Mellon’s departure from Tannadice after he guided United to a ninth-placed finish last term.

What couldn’t have been predicted was 39-year-old Tam Courts replacing the departing boss. The appointment of the inexperienced coach represents a huge gamble, but an exciting and intriguing one.

Charlie Mulgrew will bring experience and a threat from set pieces, while the recruitment of goalkeeper Trevor Carson looks smart as other clubs circle the impressive Benjamin Siegrist.

Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland is another fans will fear losing but, with a wealth of young talent coming through, there's reason for cautious optimism.

Best signing: John Lundtsram to Rangers

Player of the year: Lewis Ferguson (Aberdeen)

One to watch: Kyogo Furuhashi (Celtic)

  10. HEARTSpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

Robbie Neilson brought Hearts back into the top flight at the first attempt, but not without his critics.

The former Dundee United boss was under pressure from the Jambos support throughout their title-winning campaign, with criticism reaching fever pitch after an embarrassing Scottish Cup defeat by Brora Rangers.

Survival will be nowhere near enough to appease those fans, and with the squad Neilson has at his disposal one would expect a top-six push at least.

If the Hearts boss doesn't get off to a good start it could be a difficult season for him.

Craig Anderson: "If Hearts don’t bring in any more quality players, it’ll be bottom six and trying to fight off relegation."

Jamie Plimmer: "Hearts must secure fourth minimum first season back."

Colin Moyes: "Hearts cup win and top-six finish."

Ross Axon: "After watching Hearts the past few [League Cup] games, I say we are fighting relegation."

  12. HIBERNIANpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

Finishing third last season for the first time since 2005 was certainly success for Hibs, but there was also frustration after Jack Ross’ side fell short in the League Cup semi-final and Scottish Cup final.

That is what they have to build on this term, with the aim of consolidating third spot.

With Celtic in a period of transition, might Ross, recently rewarded with a new contract, have an eye on sneaking in at second?

A lot of that will depend on keeping his key players, with speculation still surrounding the futures of star striker Kevin Nisbet, flying winger Martin Boyle and centre-back Ryan Porteous.

  14. LIVINGSTONpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

It wouldn’t be the start of a new Premiership season without people doubting Livingston's top-flight credentials, but the West Lothian club continue to defy the odds - and then some.

David Martindale began his managerial reign with the Midas touch, but form fell away dramatically after their League Cup final loss, albeit they had done enough to seal an impressive top-six finish for the second season running.

Martindale has been busy reshaping his squad, with the acquisition of former Inverness Caley Thistle midfielder Andrew Shinnie catching the eye.

  16. MOTHERWELLpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

Graham Alexander more than steadied the ship at Fir Park after his appointment in early 2021.

Despite an eighth-placed finish, the Fir Park club ended the campaign as one of the league’s in-form sides.

Well fans will be optimistic about the new campaign and eager to see what Alexander can do in his first full campaign.

The permanent signing of goalkeeper Liam Kelly looks like great business.

But it has been a challenging summer after losing the spine of last season’s side, with Declan Gallagher, Allan Campbell and Devante Cole all departing.

Colin Hunter: "God knows, usual rollercoaster!"

    Admire the honesty, Colin.

  18. RANGERSpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

    Scottish Premiership

It was a season to remember for Rangers last term. A first Premiership title in a decade, stopping Celtic’s pursuit of 'the 10' and an unbeaten league campaign to go along with it.

Now full focus for Steven Gerrard’s men turns to retaining that crown.

The Ibrox club have so far kept their main players while making impressive additions, so it is hard to see anyone else other than Gerrard’s side as favourites.

The former Liverpool captain turned his side into a relentless, winning machine last campaign - now, the question is, can they maintain that ruthless streak?
