Sunderland

Sunderland boss Lee Johnson to Sky Sports: "I thought we had a really good spell. We grew in confidence. Our quality was on show. Arsenal found it quite difficult to get us off the ball in the final third.

"I'm very proud of the players.

"A couple of the goals were poor, good from an Arsenal point of view. The bigger picture for us is the learning experience. We said now they know the standard. When you feel the quality of the opposition you learn so much more.

"Arsenal were fantastic.

"There's a lot of positives. Big shoutout to our support because that was phenomenal."

On Nathan Broadhead's goal and injury: "It's the biggest blow. He's a really good player for us. We're really low on numbers. He's been in such fine form. It's a well-taken finish. It's so disappointing to lose him. We'll have to see how it settles down. He's devastated.

"The league is always the priority. We can use today as a motivation. I really enjoyed today."

It's just been pointed out to me Charlie Patino was born two months into Arsenal's Invincibles season.

Spanish La Liga

Barcelona are drawing 1-1 at Sevilla in La Liga, and Sevilla have just gone down to 10 men.

Nketiah is an utterly natural goalscorer and that's possibly the best thing you can say about a striker. He seems to slow things down in front of goal. It's hard to do against Premier League opposition, but he's definitely got a chance to do it.

Arsenal

Arsenal hat-trick hero Eddie Nketiah to Sky Sports: "Great feeling. I want to say big thanks to my team-mates for some really good assists. I just had to be in the right place.

"I scored a similar goal [to his third] a couple of rounds ago.

"It's nice to get that reaction. I'm happy we can go to the next round and get a few goals.

"We could have played a lot better in the first half but we improved in the second half and more goals came.

"It was a great team display.

"This competition is the place I've been getting starts. I'll do my best whenever I'm asked to play.

"I'm desperate to play football. All I can do is keep working hard. It'll sort itself out.

"Hopefully we can go all the way.

"I'm just eager to play football. That's my main ambition. As long as I play for Arsenal I'll give my all."

On Charlie Patino: "Amazing for him. He's got a great future ahead of him."

The first 15 minutes the rotation did knock the fluidity of Arsenal but they found their groove and rhythm and it was really good.

For Charlie Patino to score on his first-team debut, he will never forget it. How he ran off and slid on his knees towards the fans. It's so special and he will never forget that.

That's five goals in six games this season for Eddie Nketiah, all in three EFL Cup games.

That is the end of EFL interest in the EFL Cup. Tomorrow's three quarter-finals (19:45 GMT) are all-Premier League ties. The semi-final draw is after those games.

Eddie Nketiah is the difference between the teams as he sends Arsenal into the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a hat-trick.

But the game may well be remembered as much for Charlie Patino's debut and goal.

Arsenal paid Luton £10,000 for Charlie Patino when he was just 11 years old.

The Gunners fans, who have been very excited about his potential, are singing his name.

Arsenal almost bag a late fifth. Nuno Tavares has loads of room in behind to run into and a Sunderland defender plays him in but he lashes a shot over the bar.

Callum Doyle gets booked. That means he'll miss the semi-final first leg. So will the rest of the Sunderland team.

Arsenal want a penalty. Gabriel Martinelli finds Eddie Nketiah, who touches the ball past Callum Doyle and goes down. A replay shows Doyle didn't touch him. Goal-kick.
