When you give Eddie Nketiah the service he is unstoppable in the area. He gets across the defender really well, that's where he comes live.

    Eddie Nketiah

Poacher's finish from Eddie Nketiah and Arsenal should be in control again.

Nuno Tavares and Folarin Balogun play a one-two on the left and Tavares whips a cross in. Nketiah pokes the ball past the goalkeeper from six yards with a clever finish.

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal will mainly be disappointed they had a chance to put the game to bed and didn't. Sunderland have nothing to lose and have had a right good go at it.

Really good from Sunderland. The first goal was a mistake from a set play really and the second, Nicolas Pepe was really good. But they stayed in it and were resilient. With their attacking line you always thought they could have a threat.

Credit to Lee Johnson, he's tried to be adaptable and they go in at half-time thinking they're in this. They just have to be mindful of when Arsenal try and turn the screw.

    Andy Reid
Ex-Sunderland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sunderland have been excellent and so composed at times. They look their best when they keep the ball. If Mo Salah had scored that goal for Liverpool by Nathan Broadhead it would've been on repeat on the TV - what a move.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2021

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

Arsenal looked in complete control. And then not so much.

  11. Postpublished at 45+3 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

Scare in the box and Ben White boots behind. Corner for Sunderland at the end of the half.

They go short and it ends with Alex Pritchard's 25-yard drive being scooped up by Bernd Leno.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 45+2 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

That's a shame. Nathan Broadhead can't continue and Denver Hume is on. That's a tactical reshuffle because Hume is a left-back. Lynden Gooch moves further forward.

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

Sunderland goalscorer Nathan Broadhead is getting patched up after hurting himself in a battle with Rob Holding.

The 23-year-old is on loan from Everton.

  15. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

Arsenal's best chance in a while. Sunderland half-clear a Gunners cross and Emile Smith Rowe's 20-yard volley is punched away by Lee Burge.

  16. Postpublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2021

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

A replay shows Lynden Gooch barely touched him. No chance that's a foul.

  17. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

The home fans scream for a penalty as Nicolas Pepe goes down in the box. Too easily some may argue. No penalty.

  18. Postpublished at 39 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

Arsenal were looking comfortable at 2-0 up. The Gunners are never really comfortable though, we've learned over the years. Sunderland are really pressing at the moment.

Tom Flanagan is probably delighted to see the offside flag go up because his diving header from six yards out, from Alex Pritchard's free-kick, is well wide. He should score from there.
