I did see Milner get there a split second late, Foden goes down but was there enough contact?

James Milner is very lucky, he does catch his left leg. It should have been a free kick.

Phil Foden is fuming. He believes he's been shoved over by James Milner and that Manchester City should have a free kick just outside the area. Nothing given but City keep up the attack as Jack Grealish gets into the box. He blazes his shot from the near post to somewhere closer to the corner flag but he's offside anyway.

Liverpool have been strangely passive but a couple of rattling challenges from Andy Robertson send a roar of approval around Anfield. Manchester City have had a couple of big chances but not taken them. Will they live to regret it?

Just the one shot on target in this game so far - Phil Foden's effort after that brilliant Bernardo Silva run. Hard to see a flurry of goals in this one, a mistake or a moment of magic likely to decide it.

Groans from the Kop as Andrew Robertson sends in a disappointing corner that fails to beat the first man.

Joshua: Bernardo Silva turning into Prime David Silva for that run.

Shamsheer: That was a brilliant run & pass from Bernardo Silva. The game is slowly picking up the pace.

Diogo Jota and Ruben Dias battle for a high ball and Dias takes down Jota as he is falling. The Manchester City defender stopped the Liverpool forward getting away and is booked but the free kick is wasted.

It feels like Manchester City are settling into their rhythm nicely now as they come forward again. This time Joao Cancelo clips a nice ball into the box for Kevin de Bruyne, whose shot goes wide of the far post.

I don't know how Silva came out with the ball, he had about five red shirts around him and pirouettes to the left, pirouettes to the right. He stands up van Dijk and slides in Phil Foden.

He had to take it first time from the angle, as soon as he takes a touch Alisson comes out and it's a good save.

Sho: Liverpool are definitely the only team that can out press City. Interesting to see City retreat slightly today.

Jukebox Jack: Realistically I just want to see a good game from Liverpool v City today. Nothing is decided in October, but it's great to see two teams in good form really having a go at each other! A neutrals dream match, hopefully, and a Liverpool win!

Some mistakes creeping in as Kevin de Bruyne and then Jordan Henderson give the ball away. Bernardo Silva heads off on an impressive run, evading several Liverpool players before slipping the ball through to Phil Foden, who perhaps takes a touch too many before his shot is denied by Alisson.

It was well worked by Manchester City and a good ball in from Kevin de Bruyne. I will guess that City don't want Phil Foden trying to score headers from 15 yards out on the angle.

Oooh a poor kick out by Alisson and Manchester City win another corner. This one is played short and then outside the box to Kevin de Bruyne, who lifts the ball to Phil Foden but he's offside.

Lovely ball down the channel with the outside of his boot by Joao Cancelo. Phil Foden gives chase before playing the ball back to Bernardo Silva, whose cross is nodded behind for a corner. Foden sends in an inswinger that for a moment looks like it could creep in but Liverpool clear.

It is a game of chess this one. Both sides are trying to play a lovely brand of football but the opposing sides are closing down so quickly.

Manchester City work the ball nicely down the left to Jack Grealish, who presses forward to get into the box, cuts inside but his shot is blocked by Joel Matip.

Manchester City happy to knock the ball around in this frantic Anfield atmosphere just trying to take the heat out of the situation. Easier said than done, admittedly.

Sadio Mane is blocked by Ruben Dias and Liverpool have a free kick midway inside the Manchester City half. The ball is played forward, Jordan Henderson crosses into the box but City clear.

Henderson has been heavily involved in these early stages but Liverpool's front three are yet to really click.

Jack Grealish holds possession almost a little too long and doesn't clock Curtis Jones coming in to try and steal the ball until late. Grealish, though, does well to keep it and quickly find a team-mate to get himself out of trouble.

No attempts on goal yet but this clash is simmering nicely.

Liverpool win the first corner of the game after good work down the right by Mo Salah and Jordan Henderson forces City to put the ball behind. Joel Matip rises to meet the delivery but the ball whistles just over his head.
