  2. 'I am very pleased with the way we played'published at 19:12 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "If you ask me about the points of course I am happy if you ask me about the performance I am more than happy.

"The way we have played the last three games has been magnificent. We have played a lot of players and they have all played with personality and personality and unfortunately we could not win.

"We overcame two results, 1-0 down and 2-1 down and incredible personality from the team.

"It was a yellow card, it was too obvious. I know for referees it is not easy at Anfield and Old Trafford, there is a lot of pressure for everyone. Football is about emotions but it is obvious it is a yellow card.

"Against this team, one of the three best teams in the world those small margins can make a difference. Bernardo Silva was free and the way [James] Milner stopped it the ref knows it was a yellow card.

"I am very pleased with the way we played."

  3. 'They dominated the game from the beginning'published at 19:05 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Mohamed Salah speaking to Sky Sports: "It's hard because they keep a ball a lot. The first half not really good but the second half we played good. This is the result so we have to accept it.

"They dominated the game from the beginning. We struggled first half but at least when we struggled it was 0-0. We talked in the dressing room and I think we played good in the second half.

On his goal: "I have to watch it to see. It would be more special if we won the game but it is what it is. It's a good goal but nothing much to say.

On if a draw was a fair result: "I have to be fair. They create a lot of chances, they keep the ball a lot. I wish I could say no but it's fair to say yes. They had a lot of chances and a draw is a fair result."

  4. 'I love the Premier League'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I love the Premier League. Congratulations Liverpool and their players. That's why the last years both teams were fighting to win the Premier League. In general more than satisfied with the week we had.

"At half time we said we could not play the second next 45 what we were doing for the last 30 minutes [of the first half]. The only regret we have as a team in Paris is at 2-0 we lost the control and thought it was over. Today - the good teams you see from the way they lose. At 2-1 [down] you see a great team. I would love to win. In general the game was tight as normal against Liverpool."

On Rodri's goal-saving block: "That is because he is there. He is committed, he lives the situation."

On whether James Milner should have been sent off: "It's yellow card. Against those big teams it's a big difference. For the referee doing it at Anfield and Old Trafford is not easy, I understand that."

On a reported incident involving a Liverpool fan and a member of City's backroom staff: "I'm pretty sure Liverpool FC will take measures for this guy. Liverpool is greater than this person. Liverpool in its history helps to make sport better. Always there are people that will do that."

  5. 'Thank god a football game has two halves'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "Thank god a football game has two halves. We are really happy about the second and not so happy about the first for obvious reasons. We did a lot of things wrong in the first half and City did a lot of things right in the first half so we never got really in the game. We weren't much worse, we never played enough football. I was most happy in my career about the half-time whistle. It was never planned that we played like this and we needed half-time and we used half-time and played a really good second half.

"Man City with the ball is a proper team. There are ways to defend it. They had chances clear but they didn't score from that. It gives you a really bad feeling which leads to not playing football. We had long balls which didn't make sense. All these things we changed in the second half immediately. We were now in the game and scored wonderful goals with the ball. The message was to play the extra pass. We didn't do that in the first half at all. Do we want to win a game like this? Yes. We have to admit today the point is completely fine

On Salah's goal: "Both were pretty good. The biggest chance we didn't use. I have no idea how Rodri blocked the ball. For me the ball was in, but it's all fine. If Leo Messi ior Cristiano Ronaldo score that goal then the world says yes because it's world class. He (Salah) is one of the best players in the world, that's how it is."

On if Milner was lucky to stay on the pitch: "Pep got a little bit outraged over that. I didn't see but I saw Pep's reaction obviously but I didn't know exactly why he did that. Milly did incredibly well first half and it is not easy to defend these guys."

  6. 'That was the worst half we played against Man City'published at 18:58 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Very average first half from us.

"Probably less than average, we were too passive with and without the ball and played right into City's hands. That was the worst half we have played against them.

"I was more than pleased when I heard the whistle for half time because we had to adjust a lot of things and we did.

"Second half completely different. If we only played the second half I would have loved to have won but with the first half I am happy with the point.

"It is not the first goal [Mo Salah] has scored like this, I think against Napoli and Tottenham were similar goals but it is pure world class, what a player. He set up the first goal as well for Sadio and it was great goal as well.

"It was obvious Milner got a yellow in the first half and everyone from City was outraged because of a challenge, it was clear we had to react."

  7. 'Disappointed overall'published at 18:54 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We're a little bit unlucky not to come away with the three points I think. We weren't pressing in the right way in the first half. We started OK but after the first 10 minutes we couldn't get at them as much as we would like. I felt we did that in the second half."

On Mo Salah's goal: "It was incredible. He just kept beating players and he's deadly in those positions. Unfortunately it wasn't the winner."

On the result: "I think we're disappointed overall. We can be better in the first half and then last 10 minutes, 2-1 up we should see the game out. Positives to take though City are a good team and it's a tough fixture but a little bit of disappointment overall."

  9. 'That is why the Premier League is the best'published at 18:48 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "What a game. That is the reason the last years Man City and Liverpool were always there because we try to play in this way. Unfortunately we couldn't win - but we didn't lose.

"That's why the Premier League is the best [that it could go either way]. It was great, really great."

On Phil Foden: "Phil is a special player we know it. he came back from the national team injured, he is a fantastic player - but not just him, everyone was fantastic."

On whether James Milner should have been showed a second yellow card: "It's a yellow card. It's a yellow card. It's clear. It's Anfield, it's Old Trafford. In our situation a City player is sent off. It's too much clear. It was a second yellow."

On the result: "It is what it is. The result is the result and we cannot change it. I know how difficult it is against these players and this manager. Every time it is incredible challenge for us. The way we played at Stamford Bridge, in Paris and today shows we are a great team. When we lose the way we play in Paris [against Paris St-Germain] and draw today it is good. I pray we continue and player come back from their national teams safe."

On a reported incident involving a Liverpool supporter and a member of City's backroom staff: "I don't know. I heard something nasty said from the crowd to our staff. Liverpool will take measures. Liverpool is much greater than this person. It is certain people. It is an honour to come here. The way they support the team is great, that's why it is Anfield."

  10. 'Maybe on another day we could have got three points'published at 18:46 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Phil Foden speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Really happy with the result, maybe on another day we could have got all three points but I am happy we haven't lost today.

"We know against Liverpool we have to keep 100% concentration because when the centre back has got it they like to put it in behind. So if you switch off for one second they can get in behind and score goals.

"I respect [James Milner] as a player, I used to watch him in the academy when he was at City. He was a great opponent to play against today, very physical and experienced.

"I was a bit frustrated missing chances in the first half, so when I got the next chance I thought I would put my foot through it and try something different and it paid off.

"We know Liverpool are always going to have spells in the game its how you deal with it and I thought we fought back really well when we went a goal behind.

"We have played the best teams in world football right now but those are the games players live for.

"There are a few teams in the title race this year and it will go right until the end of the season and it is just about putting points on the board."

  13. 'It had it all'published at 18:35 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Phil Foden tells Sky Sports: "It's very difficult to come here with the fans. It's one of the most difficult grounds to come to and we dealt with it really well today.

"It had it all. It was end-to-end at times. It was such a brilliant game and we stuck in there to the end. We're happy to get the draw and on another day we could have taken the three points. It was disappointing not to go in at half time ahead but we kept the momentum when we came out in the second half and we dug in there."

On James Milner's foul: "I'm an honest guy. I don't like to go down when I get fouled. I like to stay on my feet and be honest. It happens and it's football and we dealt with it well."

On coming from behind twice: "It shows our character. We've not won here a lot but we carried on playing football when we went behind and didn;t look bothered and played really well today."

On his goal: "There wasn't a lot of room to put it across goal so I put my laces through it and hoped for the best and was happy to see it go in the back of the net."

What a game! By two very, very good sides, it ebbed and flowed. City were amazing getting the ball forward and creating chances. Liverpool were slightly off it.

I am glad it is honours even, with the quality of individual play and the goals we have seen. Well done to both of these sides and the fans have been amazing.

Ederson and Alisson are having a chat, reflecting on what was a hugely entertaining game of football.

Neither side deserved to lose after that second half display so a draw a fair result. Pep Guardiola certainly looks in a better mood as he goes over to applaud the travelling City fans.
