  1. 'I thought it was a game of two halves'published at 17:31 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: West Ham 1-2 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I thought it was a game of two halves, I thought that we were better in the first half and deserved to go into half time 1-0.

"In the second half West Ham showed how good they are and why it is so difficult playing here and we struggled massively.

"I thought we worked hard, top attitude, put bodies on the line and you need that when it is a scrappy game. But I want us to be better on the ball, to handle the second ball situations better in those half transitions.

"I think that resilience is bang on and that is the big mental part to stay in the game and keep fighting when everything is not working."

  2. 'Son was the difference'published at 17:31 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It feels like it got away from us. It is a disappointment. I didn't think there was too much between the teams. The difference was that they had the outstanding player on the pitch, which was Son [Heung-min]. He was outstanding.

"We started both halves well. There was a 10-minute spell in the first half where we looked a bit stressed, but we covered that. Second half we looked better and stretched play a lot quicker and got our rewards. But we need to delay for their second goal instead of pressing on the front foot.

"We were brave going one v one against Son and felt we could handle that. But he twisted Kortney [Hause] and put a ball in the box and they got on the end of it. We huffed and puffed after that but there wasn't much in the game. We had some good moments in the penalty box without them turning into really good chances. It just wasn't to be today."

  3. 'It's a missed opportunity'published at 17:29 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: West Ham 1-2 Brentford

    West Ham United

David Moyes talking to Sky Sports: "We had to fight back last week, that's what football does to you.

"We had numerous chances to score, numerous misses, that's why we didn't win today.

"I thought there were 30 minutes in the second half where we played very well. In the 30 minutes we were all over them, we had clear opportunities

"It's a missed opportunity, let's hope we can take opportunities in the days to come."

  4. 'We created enough chances but didn't take them'published at 17:29 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira speaking to BBC MOTD: "I am disappointed because I think we created enough chances to win the game.

"Going 2-0 down at half time was a bit harsh on us. We created enough chances but didn't take them. At the other end they had half chances that we gave to them and they took them.

"It is tough, it is challenging for us but we have to go through this. We will work hard to try and take these mistakes out of our game and keep improving.

"They are a really good group in the dressing room, they didn't accept the fact that we created those chances and didn't take them.

"The players came back out with character and personality and with the support we had today we scored two goals."

On the performance of Jeffrey Schlupp and Michael Olise: "They came on for the position of Jordan [Ayew] and Conor [Gallagher], those two players have been training really well and they were waiting for the opportunity to show how good they are. Today they came on and scored and they brought energy as well.

"I hope [the mistakes] will not happen again and we have to learn from those mistakes and at the moment every mistake we are making we are punished.

"What is positive is that we managed to come back from that and compete, but e are not happy with the point because we wanted to win that game and we had enough chances to win."

  5. 'It was a blow, we didn’t deserve that.'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: West Ham 1-2 Brentford

    West Ham United

David Moyes talking to MOTD: "It was a blow, we didn’t deserve that.

"I think Brentford will make it hard for lots of teams. In the second half, we dominated and in the first half, we missed opportunities.

"Brentford will cause teams problems, no doubt about that.

"We got stronger in the game, it’s the quality and finishing that let us down."

  6. 'If we can do that every week, it would be nice'published at 17:27 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: West Ham 1-2 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank talking to MOTD: "If we can do that every week, it would be nice. Fantastic feeling away from home, a solid performance. Second half West Ham were better, It shows why they are a good side. I think we should have done better in the second half. In the Premier League, you need to be able to defend well.

"With two injuries, it's not that easy to adapt so well done to the boys on that.

"It’s a massive win, a very good team and I'm very pleased how we played in the first half."

On Wissa's goal: "Sometimes you have a lucky hand, Wissa did well."

We've got a bit more reaction from the early games kicking about so will whiz through those before the second half gets under way.

No wonder Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ran down the tunnel at half-time. It's been a long time since a Jurgen Klopp team has been pinned back in their own half for such a prolonged period. He has work to do.

The good news for Klopp is that Manchester City, for all their superiority, did not take their chances so it's all still up for grabs.

I feel that City edged that one. They created the best chances and should really be 1-0 up. Both Foden and de Bruyne should have scored.

But Liverpool will be happy to go in 0-0.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

Half time and Jurgen Klopp legs it down the tunnel.

Plenty for the Liverpool boss to ponder.

James Milner is having a torrid time up against Phil Foden and the youngster beats the veteran once again but this time Alisson is quick off his line to save his team-mate and prevent Foden from doing some damage.

That is the young against the old. Foden looks like he is going to take it on his front foot, but takes it on the back foot.

James Milner just buys the dummy and has to bring him down because Foden is away if he lets him go.

The subsequent free kick is then wasted.

Wasted is probably the right word to describe a lot of what we've seen in this half - Manchester City have wasted a couple of decent opportunities while Liverpool have been wasteful in possession.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 42 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Phil Foden knocks the ball past James Milner, who pulls back Foden to prevent him getting away but Milner won't get away with that one and is booked.

  16. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Liverpool's ball retention has been horrible in the last 10 minutes. They can barely keep hold of the ball or string more than a couple of passes together.

  17. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Joao Cancelo tries to play a ball through the defence for Bernardo Silva but James Milner sticks out a foot to block the pass. Liverpool clear but nothing is sticking for them up the pitch and Manchester City come forward again as Kevin de Bruyne's shot is blocked by Virgil van Dijk.

  18. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Joel Matip is forward and tries to force his way through the Manchester City defence but there's no getting through. Ten minutes to go until the break and no shots on or off target yet from Liverpool.

Best chance of the game. Foden bends it round Matip to the far post. Kevin de Bruyne was arriving, he had a lot of time but got it all wrong and it goes high and wide.

Oh Kevin de Bruyne! He sneaks in at the back post unmarked to meet a cross, the whole of the goal is in front of him but he heads well over. All City at the moment.
