Kevin de Bruyne attempts to clip a ball through the defence for Jack Grealish to chase but De Bruyne uncharacteristically puts a bit too much on it and Grealish is never going to keep it in play.

Good start though. Neither side is taking a cautious approach in the early stages.

Everyone inside Anfield pays tribute to former Liverpool and England striker Roger Hunt, who died at the age of 83 last week.

He was known as 'Sir Roger' to Liverpool fans and was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning side.

Hunt is Liverpool's record league scorer with 244 goals.

Nothing is won in October but this feels like a massive clash in the title race already.

The two teams are out on an Anfield pitch that is looking resplendent in the sunshine.

  7. 'We deserved to be up in the first half'published at 16:27 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: West Ham 1-2 Brentford

    Brentford

Thomas Frank talking to Sky Sports: "If we do that every week, it will be easy! We deserved to be up in the first half. We defended well in the box. I don't think we played well in the second half, after the storm settled they scored the 1-1 goal."

On injuries and early changes: "I think that shows a lot about this group of players, even more impressive that we can go on to win."

"If you look at the game, it was a 1-1 game, we were better in the first half, West Ham better in the second half."

  8. 'It's a disappointing result'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers tells Sky Sports: "It is a disappointing result. I think we went in front against the run of play but I thought we always looked a threat and scored two very good goals.

"Throughout the game we didn't look solid defensively in our final 25 yards of the pitch. So that is something that the international break gives us a chance to reflect and assess where we can be better in that aspect of our game.

On how far off Leicester are from last season's defending: "Quite a way if you look at it today as a team that has normally been defensively good.

"But today we had poor positioning in the box and they finished the chances. We can reflect on it over this last month or so and hopefully we can be better when we get back."

On the performance: "We are normally a team that wants to impose our way on the game. It is 4-4-2 when defending and a different shape when you have the ball. With the ball we made too many mistakes, losing possession.

"It has been a tough period this September and the players have dug in, we have clearly got talent in the squad but we need to improve with and without the ball.

"The two guys up front have done their job, pressed the game, pounced on the mistakes. Kelechi [Iheanacho] finishes it really well, takes the keeper by surprise. Then we break out on a counter attack, Harvey [Barnes] makes a great pass and [Jamie] Vardy does what he does."

  9. Postpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith tells Sky Sports: "I didn't think there was an awful lot in the match. we started both halves really well and they had the outstanding player on the pitch in Son Heung-min, he set up the winner and caused us problems all game.

"I thought we got stressed, had a spell after 25 minutes, we would win it and gave it back and it became an untidy game. We have to look after the ball better. The second half was better when we switched play but he players need to learn. We were too aggressive for their second goal.

"We went chasing the game and they were allowed to spoil it with the ball in the corner."

On Ollie Watkins: "He has been getting chances and has been frustrated he has not scored [before today]. He will be pleased to get off the mark but disappointed to lose.

"We have had an indifferent start but we have a belief among the group now. It wasn't to be today but we certainly have a lot of confidence and belief in this group."

  10. 'It's nice to get a goal and rescue a point'published at 16:22 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace goalscorer Jeffrey Schlupp speaking to Sky Sports: "The gaffer has put me on to try and impact the game, be positive and try and get in the box. I managed to do that right away and get a goal.

"I missed three headers after, but I will take the goals however they come, it came onto my head and I just wanted to get it on target."

On his role off the bench: "[Patrick Vieira] told me to play in the pockets, play close to the striker, I managed to find myself close to the opposition goal, get in the box and get myself a goal."

On scoring against his former club: "It is one of those things, I got my first goal against my old club which is what I wanted to do when I came on. It is nice to get a goal and rescue a point."

On the changes Patrick Vieira has made: "You can see just in general, how we have transitioned to a more possession based team.

"We are playing out through the midfield and then trying to get behind the opposition. We are well on track to play more possession based football."

On the second-half performance: "We have all been there before, the first half didn't go how we wanted it to but you have to keep going, stay positive and we managed to rescue a point in the end."

  11. 'Important for us, the boys and the fans'published at 16:18 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo tells Sky Sports: "Good, good, good. We needed a win but a well-deserved win. We did a good match against tough opponents. Important for us, the boys and the fans. We reacted well after conceding and positive in a lot of ways.

"The boys did well. Villa are a very good team with the press so it was about taking risks. Our front three were always in the middle. They played well."

On first goal: "Very well done, good movement in possession and a fine finish.

"Many time we conceded and go flat but this time the team did well. We missed chances to kill the game.

"All the players did well, we have talented players and when they are confident, they are unstoppable."

On Harry Kane's performance: "He worked very well for the team. It [the first goal] will come.

"We are aware we have been through a tough moment. When the players gel and combine they can do very well. We have to find the balance between the defensive and attacking part of the game.

"This is our focus, what can we do to improve?"

  12. 'Now or never'published at 16:15 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: West Ham 1-2 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford's Yoana Wissa on his late, winning goal: "It was very good, every player wants to start. I know I needed one chance to score. When I came on it was 1-1. It's a good feeling, good atmosphere, very happy for the fans. Very happy.

"It was now or never because we had too many chances to score in the first half. Very good for the next game."

  13. 'We needed that'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min tells Sky Sports: "This win brings us a lot of good energy and the way we played today was different. We needed that especially before the international break. It is a good feeling to win this game and go away.

"We tried to play more, that is more different to a couple of weeks ago. We played without fear and we enjoyed it even when we lost the ball. The last three games were defeats we did not want and the confidence went down but we can bounce back and go back up.

"Every single game I will try to bring my best with positive energy. I got two assists but the lads were fantastic. I just crossed the ball and passed the ball.

"Everyone is experienced, everyone wants to win and take responsibility. We have to keep this mindset. When we win it is not everything, it is a long season and we start on zero again for the next game."

I could see a Liverpool win, but a tight win.

Name me a better moment in football than a winner with the last kick of the match? Hard to beat it for the drama and elation.

Will the heavyweight clash between Liverpool versus Manchester City deliver? That's coming up in just under 30 minutes.

  18. 'Tottenham just edged it'published at 16:00 British Summer Time 3 October 2021

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa

    Alan Hutton
Former Scotland defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tottenham I think just edged it, they had some good opportunities and could have sealed it towards the end.

Aston Villa were better in the second half but were not clinical enough and that is something that Dean Smith will need to look at.

It is a fantastic result for Tottenham, especially after the last three games.
