Time for me to switch my phone off for two days and have a lie down, deary me.

Here is the the best of the reaction from Liverpool's 5-0 spanking of Manchester United:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: "This is the lowest I have been."

Jurgen Klopp: "It was not about humiliating anybody."

    Harry Maguire: "It hurts."

Jamie Carragher: "Manchester United are an absolute mess."

Graeme Souness: "Manchester United have lots of problems."

Gary Neville: "This is as bad as it gets."

    Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is asked in the post-match news conference if he still has the backing of the club.

"I have heard nothing else," he says. "I am still thinking about tomorrow’s work. Of course, they are all low. I have never felt any worse than this. This is the lowest I have been. I accept the responsibility. That is mine today and it is mine going forward.

  3. 'We are too close to give up nowpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Just to recap, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked after the game if he was the right man to take Manchester United forward?

He replied: "I have come too far, we have come too far as a group and we are too close to give up now."

Solskjaer isn't walking so it'll be up to those above him to make the decision.

Surely this was the final and ultimate humiliation against their biggest rivals and the Norwegian won't last much longer?

    Manchester United

More from Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from the post-match news conference: "It is the worst feeling. The feeling that we are getting to where we want to be has been there. Last few weeks we have hit a brick wall. We have conceded too many easy goals. That is a concern. This is the lowest I have been. I accept the responsibility. That is mine today.

"I do believe in myself and I am getting close to what we want at the club. The results lately haven’t been good enough. Hands up. Next week is Tottenham away. Then Atalanta. Then Man City. We have to go into this with the right frame of mind.

"The time is now. Man Utd have had difficult times before and we have always bounced back. We have started this season badly. We have hit a brick wall. We need to start building results – and get clean sheets."

  8. 'I was there day' for Liverpool fanspublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Sky Sports

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness on Sky Sports: "It's a half attempt to press, it is like if you are a second out and don't do it collectively you get taken apart, and that's exactly what happened. Liverpool have been sensational. Salah is alive and kicking, switched on completely.

"Liverpool were clinical, fabulous at times, for Liverpool supporters it will be one of those ‘I was there that day’. United really didn't have a gameplan, fair play to the supporters because a vast majority stayed until the end.

"Man United have lots of problems they have to solve until they become anything like a proper team."

Paul Pogba got 1.75 on our Player Rater for his cameo.

That's the lowest mark I've seen on that.

  10. 'This is as bad as it gets'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Sky Sports

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports: "This is the first super team they are playing against and they are getting pulled apart.

"I said it before, half decent teams are scoring goals against them, proper teams will batter them.

"This is bad as it gets, we have all lost matches in a bad way, Sir Alex Ferguson lost 6-1 against Manchester City, I lost 5-0 at Newcastle, it happens, but it is the nature of the performance, they have capitulated.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will get that chance to change it I believe, but there will be untold pressure from every source. The manager will get an absolute battering and there will be calls for his head like you would not believe in this next 24 hours. The thing that stands out in my mind is the organisation around the press, pressing aimlessly without a real trigger, Liverpool just pulling them apart - so many other things, bad individual

"He and his coaching team have got to take the blame for the way the team press. Whatever happened at Leicester has been repeated today, I can’t believe the tactics of pressing - they are not capable, they haven't got it in them - Rashford, Greenwood, Ronaldo, you are not going to win the ball back with those three, you have to play on the counter-attack.

"Solskjaer has played for three years deep and on the counter attack, I have no idea why he has tried to press here. This Man Utd team are incapable of pressing."

  11. 'No time to sulk'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: "I am sad, disappointed, angry of course. My emotion doesn't matter apart from what do we do to improve and make sure it doesn't happen.

"This could go either way, we could sulk or we could come together.

"They were clinical and you have to say games are decided in front of goal. They were very, very ruthless.

"We had to go for it. You don't lay down to only lose 2-0. The third goal was the nail in the coffin.

"We created chances but we made it too open a game. You have to work on players minds. We have big games coming up, so no time to sulk, no time to feel sorry for yourself. We have to come together.

"These players have to come too far to give up. I have seen their development through the years. They stick together, look after each other. Today they weren't good enough."

  12. 'Keystone Cops type of defending'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Sky Sports

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports: "We have seen a team versus individuals and that is the huge difference, this Liverpool team is a team and a lot of people saw the team-sheet and were fancying Man Utd. What is happening on the training pitch? The organisation is just not there.

"Liverpool fans, you are watching the best of times, world class players, stars and a special manager, but Manchester United are an absolute mess.

"I don't think Liverpool were at their absolute best, whenever they made passes - it’s a joke of a back four the way it is playing, Keystone Cops type of defending. Man Utd and Liverpool are the biggest rivals maybe in world football, you are not going to get that opportunity too often.

"It is OK saying you are going to press but are they working on it? Is there a trigger? Why would you press Virgil van Dijk, the best passer…?

  13. Klopp has sympathy for Solskjaerpublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp is asked in the post-match news conference if he has sympathy for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"Of course," he said. "I said before the last thing I want to be is in his shoes in this moment. That is how it is when you lose a derby, that has happened to me, you don’t want to go out and answer these questions."

  14. That won't happen again in a long time - Klopppublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

I have just been sitting across Jurgen Klopp's press conference.

For the record, 5-0 is Liverpool's biggest ever away win v Man Utd. It was Liverpool's biggest win over Man Utd since 1925. Only once have they beaten them by a bigger score. In 1895.

"It is a really good day," said Klopp. "A big one.

"I got told it never happened before. Writing our own little chapter in the history of the club.

"People will talk about it in the future because it won’t happen again in a long time, if ever."

  15. Salah 'one of the best'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota tells BBC Sports: "A result like this against the rival is outstanding. After 2-0 we lost a few balls but a fantastic results for the fans to remember.

"The way we approach the game is like that, constant pressure. Fortunately for us we are taking more chances than the opponents that is why we are scoring so many goals."

On Mohamed Salah: "One of the best for sure, the way he finishes is unreal. In the end, that is what all the teams want, the goals.

  16. 'It hurts'published at 19:12 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Man Utd skipper Harry Maguire talking to BBC MOTD: "It hurts. The boys are devastated, it is not good enough, nowhere near good enough.

"I am not here to analyse the game. It is not good enough. Our fans stuck with us throughout. We apologise to them, they deserve more. We have to move on and we have to improve.

"At the moment I am hurt, disappointed, I am looking at myself, every player should do. Every player has to look at themselves because to lose that game in the way we did is so way near good enough."

  17. 'Come too far to give up now'published at 19:08 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is not easy to say something apart from it is the darkest day I have had leading these players. We were not good enough individually and as a team, can't give a team like Liverpool those chances but unfortunately we did.

"The whole performance was not good enough. We created openings, they had chances and they have been clinical. The third goal decided the game."

Whose responsibility? "It is mine, that is it. The coaching staff are very, very good, brilliant. I choose the way we approach the game, we were not clinical enough and gave too much spaces and when you give good players space they score.

"We are at home, playing against Liverpool, we have gone here over the last two and half years and had a similar approach to high press but today they scored on their chances I think as Manchester United we should always try to stamp our authority on the game.

"That fourth goal is when you go into half time with having to score one every 15 minutes. I know these boys are capable of it. The fourth, that was probably game over.

"You can look at last season we lose to Spurs 6-1 this is worse, miles worse. This is miles worse for me as a Manchester lad. I've just got to say we have to get over this as quickly as we can.

"I have come too far, we have come too far as a group. We are too close to give up now.

"It is going to be a difficult one. The players will be low but there's loads of characters there.

"We know we are rock bottom, we can't feel any worse than this. Let's see where we take it."

  18. Postpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    Manchester United

Question - Are you the right man to take Manchester United forward?

Solskjaer: "I have come too far, we have come too far as a group and we are too close to give up now."

    Full quotes to come.

  19. 'We wanted to write our own chapters'published at 19:01 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tells BBC Sport: "The results yes (perfect). Bruno Fernandes had a chance early on but we were incredibly clinical. We put them under pressure with out high press and it was phenomenal. As the opponent you cannot gain confidence or momentum. We know the story of United this season, but 4-0 makes it tricky. 5-0, come on, control it and try to get through it. It was not about humiliating anybody.

"The game was decided then we have to bring it home, when it was pretty much over don't give them a chance but we did when we let Cristiano Ronaldo score but it was offside so we were lucky. We wanted to write our own chapters in the history book and this was another.

"We have the momentum in front of goal. We won games when we were high, when we were young and got carried away but we have Preston on Wednesday. This result looks different to the game I score but for the people it is great. My wife was here as well and I hope she enjoyed it too."
