I have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to thank for one of the greatest moments of my life in '99. He is a good man, he loves the club and, whatever happens now, will always be loved by true fans. After the turgid years of Moyes, Van Gaal and Mourinho he restored the club's soul. I've loved supporting you Ole, I hope you are given the chance to carry on but, if not, thank you - you will always be my hero.

  2. 'Nowhere near good enough for this club'published at 18:55 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, speaking to Sky Sports: "We apologise to the fans, it was nowhere near good enough for this club. They stuck with us right to the end and we appreciate that but as a club we have to do better.

"I am so disappointed, we gave them so many chances. They were so clinical, we had a lot of chances ourselves but I am a defender and to concede four in the first half especially at Old Trafford is nowhere near good enough.

"As a player I know myself. I’ll be looking at myself and my individual performance.

"We have to stick together, there is no point blaming each other but look at ourselves. Look in the mirror when we go home tonight and think where we can do better.

"To lose to Liverpool in any game of football hurts. The rivals, the way we lost the game, to be 4-0 down at half time in front of our fans, like I say it is not good enough."

Too far to say embarrassing? “Not really. The term I’d use is not good enough. I look at those lads each day in training and we are working hard as we can but at the moment it is not good enough. I apologise to the fans, we have to look at ourselves as individuals but also stick together.

  3. 'The result is insane'published at 18:52 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tells Sky Sports: "What can I say? Did I expect that? No. What we did in the last third was insane. Pressing high, winning balls, scored wonderful goals. I told them at half-time to play better. We started incredibly well and stopped playing football. We controlled the game after the fifth, it was not about scoring more, just trying to get out without more injuries.

"The result is insane, I asked if there was one like this in history and if there isn't then it will take a while. The players put a nice piece in the book. It is special but we don't celebrate like crazy, we have respect for the opponents. We were lucky in some moments, United are not in their best moment.

On injuries: "James Milner has a hamstring, he showed me something was not right. Naby Keita we have to see, a full throttle on the shin."

On Mohamed Salah: "The fifth goal, Mo was there to get the goals and he deals with the fuss that everyone makes around him. He enjoys his football and long, long, long, may it continue. I knew already (he wants to end his career here), I know the situation.

"Three points against a real opponent but you have to understand these games right. We got lost against Aston Villa and you have to learn off it. We smashes Crystal Palace once and the results are not interesting. I analyse the games, we can play better football and have to concentrate more.

"5-0, I couldn't be happier, it is exceptional. Absolutely outstanding.

"I have a few defeats in my mind which was not necessary but we won today so we drink beer on the way home."

  4. Rate the playerspublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 24 October 2021

This could be painful for Manchester United fans.... but here's your chance to rate the players.

    Have a go here.

Probably more enjoyable for Liverpool fans to be fair.

For a bit of perspective, yes United have dropped off the pace since Fergie retired, but that's come at the same time that the rest of the pack have raised the bar significantly. The appointments of Van Gaal and Mourinho in particular were poor choices totally out of keeping with the clubs ethos and it now needs another new choice to fire us up again. Backing your manager in tough times is admirable and the correct way to run a football club - but you absolutely have to back the right one.

I hate talking about my era because I was only here for a short while but I've seen players, when things weren't going right, putting it right on the pitch. Players like Bryan Robson, Roy Keane and Paul Ince, they would take responsibility at 2-0 and 3-0. You are getting a doing and getting taken to the cleaners, but do something about it on the pitch. I didn't see anything like that today from anyone in a red shirt.

We've stuck up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now but he's been there for almost three years now and with the signings at the start of the season you were thinking they have to challenge for the title, but I really don't see any other way. He has to go, surely?

    FT: Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool hat-trick hero Mohamed Salah tells Sky Sports: "I think it is great to win 5-0 here, we knew before the game it would be tough if we did not play our game.

"We knew they will come and try to give everything so we had to give 100%.We just tried to play our football and play in between the lines to create more chances. We did that and were lucky to score.

"As long as the team keep winning I am happy and to give my best to the team to win. The first goal I gave to Naby Keita to score.

"We know what it takes to win the Premier League, we did it two years ago. A big win here but still only three points.

"We try to win each game and try to win the title. We need to play to win everything. From our heads from pre-season, we need to win the Premier League and hopefully we go for that.

"After half-time we were talking in the dressing room to just keep going and score as many as we could."

It is going to be hard for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It is the result - five goals at home against your biggest rival is totally embarrassing. I don't know what he's going to say, what the hierarchy are going to say. I know what the fans will say though.

This narrative that United have a great squad is hilarious. They have about three too many great forward players, no midfield and Maguire and Wan-Bissaka are first choice defenders. It's one of the most unbalanced squads I've ever seen a top club have.

To do what this current Liverpool side has done today at Old Trafford in front of 76,000 fans and embarrass Manchester United as they did it has to be down to the influence of Jurgen Klopp.

It how he sets them up, the belief, the hard work. I can't speak highly enough of Liverpool today. They were absolutely brilliant.

Liverpool were explosive and everything they did was spot on. Everything they did was precise and exact.

There are very few teams who can deal with Liverpool when they play like they did today. They were brilliant.
