Norwich City have completed a deal to sign USA international striker Josh Sargent from Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee.

Sargent, 21, has signed a four-year deal at Carrow Road, having spent two-and-a-half years in the Bundesliga, having progressed through Bremen's youth ranks.

He leaves having scored 15 goals in 83 appearances.

Speaking to the club's official website, Sargent said: “I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League, so it’s a very exciting opportunity for me.

"I heard it’s a good group of guys and I talked with the head coach already and I really like what they’re trying to do here.

"I like to think my main position is a number nine, but I am also very versatile. No matter where I play, everyone can expect that I will give my all, my 100 percent and hopefully score some goals."

Frenkie de Jong has paid tribute to Messi on Instagram:

"When I was a child I enjoyed every game of yours with my brother in our room watching you on television. When I came here two years ago I discovered that you were an amazing person.

"It has been a dream for me to play with the best player in history, I have enjoyed every minute on and off the pitch. Now I will continue to enjoy your magic but again like when I started, in front of the television.

"Thanks for everything, Leo. I wish you the best for the future to you and your whole family

Lionel Messi is set to undergo a medical at Paris St-Germain after agreeing a two-year deal with the French club.

The Argentina star was pictured in a private plane, about to leave Barcelona for Paris, before completing one of the biggest transfers in recent memory.

It is understood the deal, which has the option to be extended to 2024, could see Messi earn €650,000 (£550,000) per week if all the various clauses are met.

Messi confirmed his exit from Barcelona in a tearful farewell on Sunday.

Despite scores of clubs being interested in the 34-year-old, who has won the Ballon D’Or on six occasions, Messi wanted to join PSG to be re-united with former Barcelona team-mate Neymar, plus international colleague Angel di Maria.

It remains to be seen whether Messi could be involved in PSG’s league game against Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.

  8. 'I did everything possible to stay'published at 13:06 British Summer Time 10 August 2021

Lionel Messi is leaving Barcelona, but not by choice. His contract has run out and the club couldn't afford to renew, despite him agreeing to a 50% pay cut.

“I did everything possible and the club, Laporta, they couldn’t do it because of LaLiga," he told reporters at his farewell press conference.

“I’ve heard things said about me, that I didn’t want to continue, but on my life, we did everything we could because I wanted to stay.

“Last year, I didn’t want to stay and I said it; this year, I wanted to stay and we couldn’t.”

DMaxLan: Just because late-in-his-career Messi is at PSG doesn't guarantee winning the Champions League. They don't need him to win the weak French league and that lower level of competition is going to be a problem. Complacency is why Lille won it in 20/21. Dan, Guildford.

Jon Hare: Barcelona have played this very well. They have Messi out, and can blame La Liga. His antics last year set this up. Barca could easily have cut their squad if they really wanted him to stay. Barca will now move on, Messi will have to as well, as he wanted last year.

Steve in Milan: Messi of Barca or of Argentina? He is a 34 year old sulking footballer, who is no longer the main man and needs to adjust to that, new life and new team very quickly. Something he has never had to do. Maybe too many egos in one basket?

Jack Hartman: Is this where the game dies? Messi almost earning three million euros a month net. I can’t see how football can be sustainable if this is where we going, super leagues will be inevitable and as for FFP [financial fair play]?
