Jess Sigsworth looks a decent signing. The striker is causing all sorts of problems and forces Hannah Hampton into another save.

Leicester skipper Sophie Barker is down receiving treatment after a crunching challenge.

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

We've just reached the halfway stage of the first half. It's fair to say it's WSL newcomers Leicester who are on top.

The game is stopped while Villa's keeper receives some treatment. That gives Carla Ward an opportunity to give her players some instructions.

The home side have been second best.

  5. CLOSE!published at 12:50 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

And another chance for Leicester. This time it comes after a short corner and the delivery finds unmarked Foxes player Sam Tierney who heads it wide from close range. That should have been 1-0!

  6. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

There's plenty of pace in this Leicester side. They're on the attack again and Jess Sigsworth does ever so well to create some space for herself before smacking it straight at Hannah Hampton. Villa are under pressure.

  7. Postpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

Leicester win a free-kick just outside the box and it is rolled into the path of Natasha Flint who hammers it first time. High and wide.

  8. Postpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

Having started brightly, Villa are having to do a lot of defensive work. That attempt by Natasha Flint has really given Leicester some momentum. Flint is making a real nuisance of herself.

It’s a warm day in Liverpool and a number of fans are already at Goodison Park. We’ve seen quite a few Manchester City fans who have travelled too. It’s expected to be a tasty affair on the pitch but the atmosphere could be even better off it.

  10. CLOSE!published at 12:40 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

Jonathan Morgan will be happy with the start his newly promoted Leicester side have made. There is plenty of energy and enthusiasm in his team.

A long ball forward falls nicely for Natasha Flint who hits it first time from outside the box. Great save by Hannah Hampton who tips it over for a corner.

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

Villa fans are in good voice but they are silenced when Leicester win their first corner. It comes to nothing.

By the way, the Foxes are attacking the M6 end of the ground.

Good work by Jodie Hutton who goes on a decent run and then delivers a low cross into the danger area which is hacked away.

Villa are posing all the early questions with Leicester on the back-foot.

Josh Russell: It's so good having WSL games on Sky and BBC. No more streaming online or on the Red Button. It's been a long time coming.

Rachel Ellis: So good to see women's football getting the coverage it deserves this season via BBC Sport and Sky Sports. Good luck to all the team involved at any level. Here's to an exciting season!

The pitch looks immaculate. It's like a bowling green. It's going to be Villa to get the game under way.

    And here come the teams.

A warm round of applause as Villa emerge first - quickly followed by the Foxes.

There's a decent number of fans inside the ground. Will Villa improve on last season's 10th-placed finish?

    Anita Asante
Aston Villa & England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

For me it is about playing in different circumstances. I love intimate stadiums that are packed. But to be able to go to Villa Park with its legacy and history and an opportunity to go and play where many of us will have watched men’s games growing up. It is a powerful experience. It shows us where we want to be in future. It is good for the direction of where we want the game to get to.

This game is coming from Walsall's ground - home to the best Balti pie in football when I covered them a long time ago.

This is Leicester's first season in the WSL after winning the Championship by eight points.

They have been very active in the transfer market signing seven players in the past month including forward Jess Sigsworth - pictured above - from Manchester United.

Boss Jonathan Morgan occupies the office, external in which Claudio Ranieri plotted Leicester's path to the Premier League title in 2015-16.

His first objective this season is to establish his side in the top-flight.
