  1. Alexander rues 'late' Well call-offspublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Livingston 0-0 Motherwell

Shortly before kick-off, Motherwell manager Graham Alexander told BBC Sportsound some of his four changes against Livingston are due to illness and injury. Captain Stephen O'Donnell, Barry Maguire and Liam Donnelly are some of those missing.

"Some changes are forced through injury and illness, so we haven't got a full strength squad," he said.

"There is possibly a change of shape. We have looked at a couple of things with a couple of late call-offs."

    Livingston v Motherwell (15:00)

Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Sportsound that the wins will come for his team after two defeats in their opening league games against Rangers and Aberdeen.

"I think it's the first time we have been able to select the same XI from the previous game," he says. "But the boys deserve it.

"We have had two difficult games to start with, Aberdeen and Rangers. I am not reading too much into the games as I have been pleased with the performances so far.

"The points will come. The boys are level-headed and are in a good place. They know they have been playing good football."

  6. Covid-hit Diamonds play onpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Scottish League 1

Airdrieonians have confirmed this morning that, despite a "heavily depleted" squad because of "a number of positive Covid cases", their game away to Peterhead goes ahead. The full-timers who were among the pre-season favourites already don't have their troubles to seek and sit second bottom of the third tier.

Queen's Park have made an almost ideal start to their bid for successive promotions and visit an Alloa Athletic side who have made a sticky start to their attempt at a quick return to the Championship under new manager Barry Ferguson.

Full-time Falkirk are level on points with the Spiders and will be favourites at home to Clyde, but after last week's stunning winner against Alloa, you can never discount the Bully Wee if talisman striker David Goodwillie is on form.

Montrose are also level at the top as they look like again belying their financial resources with a promotion push and visit bottom side East Fife.

  7. Form reflectionspublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Celtic v St Mirren (15:00)

The form of Celtic and St Mirren are like mirror images of each other.

Having started without a win in three games under new manager Ange Postelogou, including an exit from Champions League qualifying, Celtic are aiming today for a sixth consecutive victory on the back of Wednesday's impressive 2-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in their Europa League play-off.

St Mirren started the season with four straight wins but are without a victory in the last three, culminating in a penalty shoot-out defeat in their League Cup last 16 tie with Livingston last weekend.

However, the Buddies won on their last visit to Celtic Park in January, a 2-1 success that contributed to Neil Lennon's resignation the following month.

Thumbs up if you think Celtic will win. Thumbs down for St Mirren...

  8. Two sides in need of winpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Livingston v Motherwell (15:00)

Livingston stopped the rut of two straight defeats in edging St Mirren on penalties in the League Cup last weekend.

No such luck for Motherwell, who are three without a win but did win 2-0 on their last visit to the Tony Macaroni Arena in October and were unbeaten in last season's three meetings.

Will Livingston win a second in a row? Give us a thumbs up if you think Livi will win. Thumbs down for Well.

  9. Kelty and Forfar out in clearpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Scottish League 2

Kelty Hearts last week underlined their favourites tag as they bid for successive promotions with a hard-fought draw away to relegated Forfar Athletic.

Kevin Thomson's side today host fellow big spenders Edinburgh City, who have yet to show the form expected of a side with hopes of challenging for the title.

Forfar visit an Elgin City side who got their season rolling with a fine 3-0 home win over Albion Rovers last weekend.

Annan Athletic, who are tucked in a point behind the leading pair, are Rovers' visitors today.

  10. Motherwell again without club captainpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Livingston v Motherwell (15:00)

Motherwell manager Graham Alexander is again without captain Stephen O'Donnell.

The full-back missed last week's League Cup defeat by Dundee through illness.

Bevis Mugabi comes into defence, Mark O'Hara is in midfield, while Justin Amaluzor and Tony Watt are restored up front.

Barry Maguire and Liam Donnelly miss out completely after starting at Dens Park, fellow midfielder Steven Lawless drops to the bench along with striker Connor Shields, while midfielder Mark O'Hara swaps in.

Forward Kevin Van Veen returns from a back problem on the bench.

  11. Taylor debut as Accies bosspublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Scottish Championship

Four more games today in the second tier, with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle looking to maintain their 100% records.

Pre-season favourites Killie visit last season's other relegated side, Hamilton Academical, in a game of the day made more intriguing by the host's poor start to the season, resignation of Brian Rice and yesterday's appointment of well-travelled former assistant Stuart Taylor as head coach.

Thistle, who lead on goal difference, visit an Arbroath side who were seconds away from knocking out League Cup holders St Johnstone before losing on penalties last weekend.

Ayr were also close to ousting a Premiership side, a controversial penalty allowing Dundee United to equalise and eventually also winning after a shootout - and, having been hit with a Covid outbreak, the Honest men are Caley Thistle's visitors today.

  12. Darkest Fifepublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

The big shock from last night was the abandonment of the potentially electric Fife derby after the floodlights failure delayed kick-off then the loss of a wifi connection left them without lights and CCTV in the stands - and left some fans outside because turnstiles were not working.

Only 14 minutes had been played, with hosts Raith Rovers level with Dunfermline Athletic at 0-0 and players wandering off bemused amid anger from the thousands of fans inside - and outside - Stark's Park.

Never a dull moment in Scottish football - except in the unlit stands of Kirkcaldy that is!

  13. Edouard wanted away - Lennonpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Celtic v St Mirren (15:00)

Talking of Odsonne Edouard, former Celtic manager Neil Lennon revealed on BBC Radio Scotland's Breakfast Football Show that the French striker made it clear he wanted away last summer.

"You could tell in the pre-season when we went to France that his body language wasn't with us," he said.

"I think he was of the mindset with his representatives that a move was in the offing.

"He was sought after by everyone, then the pandemic came. We had one bid for Odsonne in the summer of last year, but it was nowhere near the valuation of the player."

  14. Odsonne has been 'super' - Postecogloupublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 21 August 2021

    Celtic v St Mirren (15:00)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou tells BBC Sportsound that Scotland winger James Forrest drops out the side with a knock he suffered on Wednesday.

"It was better to leave him out today," he says. "Ryan [Christie] was fantastic before he got a knock - he will bring energy.

"Odsonne [Edouard] has been super for us, having a couple pairs of fresh legs after Wednesday will hopefully help us."

On new signing Josip Juranovic: "Hopefully Monday or Tuesday he will be into training. He adds quality and depth in a position we are light on. Anthony [Ralston] has been outstanding, but he's the only right-back we've got."

On rumours linking Celtic with Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet: "I'm not quashing, denying or confirming. There's work we are doing off the field and hopefully we can make some announcements in the next few days."

    Celtic v St Mirren (15:00)

The big absentee for St Mirren is in the dugout, as manager Jim Goodwin misses the game after testing positive for Covid-19.

On the field, there are three changes to the side that was eliminated by Livingston in the League Cup last weekend.

Defenders Charles Dunne and Richard Tait drop out along with striker Eamonn Brophy.

Into the line-up come centre-back Conor McCarthy and midfield duo Ryan Flynn and Alan Power.
