  1. Can Everton offload James?published at 08:28 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

With Moise Keane now back at Juventus, one other outgoing deal Everton will be desperate to do before the window closes is get James Rodriguez off their wage bill.

The Colombian has been told he has no place in manager Rafa Benitez’s plans and will face a season in the wilderness, and Everton an expensive outlay, if he cannot be moved.

Everton had hoped to include him in a deal for Porto winger Luis Diaz but hopes are fading on that one although there remains a hope AC Milan might come to the rescue.

Either way, Everton will not want him still on their payroll come the end of this window.

Benji: Don't mind that [Liverpool] haven't signed a replacement for Gini [Wijnaldum] but I think we're missing a plan b striker. A big man for those games where buses are parked. You have Trent, Robertson and now Tsmikas that can cross for fun so put a target man in there to win some headers.

Jamie: I'd love to see Liverpool signing Hudson-Odoi. Would be great backup for the front 3. Don't think Chelsea would sell him to a rival though.

  3. Paperwork, not points at Portman Roadpublished at 08:25 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

Ipswich Town have signed winger Bersant Celina on a season-long loan from French side Dijon, pending international clearance.

Kosovo international Celina, 24, had a season-long loan spell at Ipswich in the 2017-18 campaign and becomes their 18TH signing of the summer transfer window.

Ipswich are 21st in League One, with no wins so far this season.

  4. 'No striker for City - not the end of the world'published at 08:21 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Speaking on the Monday Night Club: "Ferran Torres has caught my eye in the number nine position because of his running in behind. He's not got the same hold up play as a Romelu Lukaku, he's not got that strength, but he's very intelligent, he got two goals at the weekend.

"Man City won the league by 12 points last season. I understand that City fans want a striker, but I don't think it's the end of the world that they haven't signed one. Man City, nine times out of ten, play the opposition off the park. Sometimes, in the latter stages of the Champions League last season, teams have found them out a little and they've not had a plan B.

"Look at Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry, in the box those strikers have a knack of knowing where to be, what touch to take, when to chip. That's all City are lacking at the moment, that world-class striker that you know is going to get you 25 goals per season."

Leeds' £30m valuation for Dan James smacks of desperation after a poor start to the season.

Is it just me or is Edouard to Palace at £15m an absolute steal? As a Spurs fan I would love to see us hijack this move as he is a top prospect.

  7. Renato Sanches to Wolves?published at 08:13 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

It's sounding like it might be a busy day at Wolves, with interest being registered in a number of players as they look to bolster Bruno Lage's squad.

One player they are interested in is Renato Sanches, who had an underwhelming spell at Swansea but was better at Bayern Munich and last season was part of the Lille squad that won the French league title.

That would be an interesting one.

Going through the Juventus statement, it appears to be a two-year loan deal for Moise Kean, with an option to buy at the end of it.

Everton will get 7m euros (£6m) over two years, with Juventus having an option to then buy Kean for 28m euros (£24m).

  9. Done deal - Juventus sign Moise Kean from Evertonpublished at 08:03 British Summer Time 31 August 2021
    Breaking

It's all about Juventus so far today. Cristiano Ronaldo is out and in comes Italy international forward Moise Kean, who has moved from Everton.

Kean, 21, had been with Juve between 2016-19, before moving to Goodison Park.

But he struggled for first-team action with the Toffees and was on loan at Paris St-Germain last season.

  10. 'Window a huge bone of contention'published at 08:01 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Liverpool

    Josh Sexton, The Anfield Wrap:

"Liverpool’s transfer window has been a huge bone of contention for fans, and that will likely remain the case unless The Reds pull off a huge deal before the deadline - and even that may not be enough.

"If you’d have asked me what we needed to absolutely make sure of, if we could only sign one player before the window started, I’d have said a centre back after last year’s debacle and that’s exactly what the club went and did in getting Ibrahima Konate at the beginning of the summer.

"However, with Gini Wijnaldum departing and leaving behind big shoes to fill in Liverpool’s midfield, that mentality has shifted slightly. The rise of youngsters such as Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, as well as a year of bedding in to the side for Thiago, may be enough to fill the void but if things go wrong many will point to that as a glaring error by the club.

"They haven’t been the type to do much late business in recent years, and their rivals deciding to splash the cash shouldn’t and likely wouldn’t change that, but we’d all love to see at least one new lad be unveiled before the window slams shut."

  11. 'Mbappe wants to play with Messi'published at 07:59 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 live

Speaking on the Monday Night Club about Real Madrid's offer for Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe:

"PSG are waiting. The negotiation has stopped between the two clubs, Real Madrid don't want to make a new offer, they've made their second offer of $180m (£130.5m) and PSG are saying: 'If you want in, you'll have to go higher - otherwise we won't sell.'

"Mbappe is happy to stay [at PSG] because he wants to play with Messi, he says to people in private: 'This is Messi, he's incredible, you should see him in training.'

"He loves playing with [Achraf] Hakimi, who provided him with an assist for the second goal [Reims 0-2 PSG - Sun, 29 Aug] and they have a real bromance together.

"He'd be happy to stay. He said to the club: 'I'm happy to stay, but I will not extend. I would leave on a free in a year's time. It's up to you now, if you want to get some money for me, find a deal with Real Madrid and I will go now and you will get the money. But if you don't mind not getting the money, I will go in a year and I will stay - I want to play with Neymar and Messi and Hakimi, but there will be no money for you in a 12 months' time.

"I think for $200m they'd let him go and try to find a replacement from somewhere. If there's not a new offer, I think they'll say it's not enough and they will keep him."

  12. Long-term Ronaldopublished at 07:54 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    BBC Sport

There are a couple of elements in that statement that underline just how keen Juventus were to get Cristiano Ronaldo's wages off their books.

Firstly, they have accepted payment over five years, by which time Ronaldo will be 41 and unlikely to be a regular for Manchester United.

Secondly, they have accepted a fee that is 14m euros less than the player was worth according to his amortisation value in the club's accounts.

That is not great if you are an accountant.

The United Opinion: Man United are still missing that final piece of the jigsaw - a proper holding midfielder. The business so far has been great, but they HAVE to go for a Neves or a Bissouma.

Dean: Still think Man United are missing a trick by not signing a quality central midfielder.

Maybe so, but you've just signed Cristiano Ronaldo. Nothing to moan about.

More from Juventus' statement and they write: "On 10 July 2018, two icons of the European and football world came together - Cristiano Ronaldo became a Juventus player.

"Today, after three years together and 133 appearances, 101 goals scored and five trophies won, that chapter has come to an end. The paths of CR7 and Juventus have gone their separate ways.

"On that day in July, when Cristiano arrived in Turin, the electric feeling of those great days could be felt through the air. The Juventus fans welcomed CR7 like a king, eager to see him on the pitch and cheer with him. It was a great story."

  18. Here's what Juventus saypublished at 07:39 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

Juventus' announcement: "Juventus Football Club announces that an agreement with Manchester United FC Ltd for the definitive disposal of the registration rights of the player Dos Santos Aveiro Cristiano Ronaldo has been reached for a consideration of 15 million euros payable in five financial years, which might be increased, up to a maximum of eight million euros, upon achievement of specific performance objectives over the duration of the employment contract with the player.

"This operation generates a negative economic impact of approximately 14 million euros on the 2020/2021 financial year due to the partial write-down of the net book value of the player’s registration rights."
