  1. 'A homecoming for Ronaldo'published at 07:34 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Manchester United

    Devesh Arora, UtdDistrict.co.uk:

"This window has so far been up there with one of the best ones the club has ever had in terms of the number of high profile deals pulled off.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjær has wanted Jadon Sancho for years now and he was ready to bide his time to get him, getting a deal done for a comparitively reasonable price of around £73m really set the tone for the rest of the window. Looking further, there are not many centre-backs in world football who are as complementary to Harry Maguire as Raphaël Varane is - adding him into the mix for an initial outlay of around £34m represents very good business too. The addition of Tom Heaton to the goalkeeping department was a big positive as well.

"Last but not the least, a homecoming for Cristiano Ronaldo - apart from the goals which he's inevitably going to score, the value of having a professional like that in the dressing room is not something which can be broken down into numbers.

"A number of academy prospects have had season-long loans sanctioned, and will get some much needed playing time. Facundo Pellistri and Andreas Pereira have also moved on loans abroad to Alaves and Flamengo respectively."

    Daily Mirror

The back page of the Daily Mirror has a couple of decent stories.

The Mirror also include a social media post from Arsenal and England utility man Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who is pushing for a deadline day move to Everton.

  8. Leeds close in on £30m deal for Man Utd's Jamespublished at 07:15 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Leeds United are closing in on a club record £30m deal to sign Manchester United winger Daniel James.

Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa has been keeping a close eye on James ever since the Welshman's move to Elland Road from Swansea collapsed in January 2019.

James subsequently joined United that summer and has scored nine goals in 74 appearances for the Red Devils. Leeds were thinking about making a move during the last summer window but brought in Brazilian Raphinha instead.

However, with James facing an uncertain Manchester United future once the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus is confirmed, Bielsa has gone back in for the 23-year-old.

It is understood a fee has been agreed in principle, with only the final details remaining to be completed. The fee would be a club record for the West Yorkshire side, eclipsing the 29m euro (£24.8m) they paid Valencia for striker Rodrigo 12 months ago.
