As a Geordie quite pleased with the business conducted today...the sooner we get relegated the sooner we get Ashley be out of our club.

What is happening at my club Arsenal is worrying. They need a full time right back and central midfielder, ideally a whole new team. No rumours on a central midfielder??? Come on Edu.

For Messi to go says it all. I could not picture it. It has got that bad, we are seeing such a different Barca team – what will the team be like in coming seasons? To see it in this position, I find it sad.

  4. Barcelona giving their best players to their direct title rivalspublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 live

The Antoine Griezmann deal is really close, I was told there is a full agreement in place between the two clubs and Griezmann himself - just two years after leaving Atletico in that huge transfer for a massive fee and he's on massive wages, something like 130k a week which is crazy.

He had zero shots, not just on target, I mean zero shots at all, in Barca's win at the weekend so clearly there was something wrong there even after Lionel Messi's departure. The most baffling thing for me is that yet again, like they did with Luis Suarez last summer, Barcelona are just strengthening the squad of their opponents for the title.

Griezmann was not happy at Barca but still, you are giving one of your direct opponents for the title and one of the other big clubs in Spain one of your best players arguably, a fantastic player and you don't get anything in exchange. Apart from a loan with an option to buy. I don't know who makes those decisions but I find them crazy decisions. Incredible.

James Ward-Gwilliam: Villa fan here. Shame we couldn't keep Grealish but we've recruited well to replace him My only real concern is maybe a CDM or another CB to cover any injuries And maybe a proper back up for Emi Martinez However I trust in our owners and board

Josh Hammond: Manchester United fan here. Happy with Varane and Sancho. Would have preferred a decent defensive midfielder over Ronaldo. Good to see him back though. Dan James leaving is a shame. Cracking talent who struggled to get games with the emergence of Greenwood.

  6. Griezmann to be replaced with... Luuk de Jong?published at 20:44 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

We've said that Chelsea are trying to do this deal for Saul Niguez - the Atletico Madrid player - and that would clear the way for Antoine Griezmann to go back to Atletico from Barcelona. That is a big deal in itself because he cost a huge amount of money when he moved from Atletico to Barcelona - he cost £100m and it's not worked out for him at all.

Into the equation then comes Luuk de Jong, former Newcastle forward who wasn't very successful there but Barcelona seem to want him to replace Griezmann... Interesting.

  7. Kral will make 'valuable contribution'published at 20:41 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    West Ham United

Alex Kral is West Ham's fourth signing of the transfer window and second of the day.

Manager David Moyes said: “I am delighted to welcome Alex to West Ham United. “He will provide good competition in the centre of midfield. He is another young, talented player who we feel has a big potential and will be capable of adapting to the demands of the Premier League.

“We’ve brought him in on loan initially and, hopefully, over the course of the season he will make a valuable contribution, particularly with our busier schedule of fixtures.

“Alex is another established international player with the Czech Republic, and we hope he has similar characteristics and hunger to that of Tomas and Vladimir.”

  20. Choudhury to Newcastle?published at 20:04 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Newcastle are looking into Leicester's Hamza Choudhury, in the hope that he will join them, maybe on loan - so it's not absolutely silent at St James' Park. Maybe fans will be happy to hear that but I'm not sure - but they are doing something.

And elsewhere Wolves are trying to do some business, hoping to sign Renato Sanches from Lille but he is injured so that's not going to happen. They are speaking, amongst others, to Cardiff about Kieffer Moore and Cardiff are being a bit resistant. But Wolves of course have Premier League finances and may have flexibility to do some kind of deal there.
