  4. 'Solskjaer couldn't get consistency'published at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

    Solskjaer sacked

    Louis Saha
Ex-Man Utd & Everton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Solskjaer has been saved too many times by individual players. Individuals made it look like Manchester United could come back in games.

Solskjaer couldn’t get that consistency or total discipline. Back in the days you would have seen players so upset mentally with the first half at Watford. I don’t see that now. That’s the problem, why he ultimately got the sack.

I’m sad for my former team-mate. I’m also sad for the players and the fans. This isn’t great.

This is a difficult moment, but it could be the shock that this club needs.

Solskjaer did a tremendous job in bringing back the fighting spirit and right attitude.

For me I give it to Zinedine Zidane. As a manager, three Champions League titles is really good going. He doesn’t get enough credit as a manager, everyone remembers him as a player.

Who would be prepared to give Cristiano Ronaldo the hairdryer treatment? The two had unbelievable success together at Madrid.

  10. 'It's a horrible feeling'published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

    Solskjaer sacked

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I felt sorry for Solskjaer after the Liverpool game more than anything. We got beat by Leeds 4-0 when I was the Middlesbrough manager. It’s an absolutely horrible feeling.

Maybe Solskjaer would have wanted this. The pressure he would’ve been under after the Watford loss would have been horrendous.

The manner of how they were getting defeated, plus the manner of response from his players, there was no response.

    Solskjaer sacked

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Last season United finished second. Bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho I expected them to get better. They haven’t, they actually got worse.

Manchester United have the resources. They could finish this season with the FA Cup and a good run in the Champions League.

  15. 'The buck stops with the manager'published at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

    Solskjaer sacked

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you look at the players Manchester United have, they can’t be performing like that. They've got world class players. Internationals who aren’t performing.

At the end of the day, the buck stops with the manager. They don’t look like an organised team. Against Liverpool and Manchester City they were just chasing shadows.

  16. Poor defensive recordpublished at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

    Solskjaer sacked

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaves with Manchester United seventh in the table - six points off the top four.

United will drop to ninth today if Everton win at Manchester City and Tottenham beat Leeds United in Antonio Conte's first Premier League home game in charge of Spurs.

United have the joint-third worst defensive record in the league behind struggling Norwich City and Newcastle United.
