  2. 'We have to stick together'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

    FT: Man City 3-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton boss Rafael Benitez, speaking to Sky Sports: "I don't like to lose against anyone, it doesn't matter the name or the level of the team.

"We had our chances on the counterattack without creating too much."

On losing Demarai Gray to injury: "Clearly he is one of the most dangerous players on the counter, when you don't have that you are missing something more but still with the players we had up front we had to create more on the counter.

"They had one or two chances in the first half. It changed everything to concede at the end of the first half. You have to take the risk and become more exposed.

"Conceding at the end, it is not easy for the mentality of the players. We started well in the second half but it is a question of time when you are not a threat in attack.

"We knew before that we have to go to January in a good position and with players coming back it would be easier for us to compete with anyone. In the meantime we have to stick together and go with the confidence we can beat anyone."

  3. 'We had to patient'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

    FT: Man City 3-0 Everton

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day 2: "We played the game we should play, be patient but sometimes with rhythm, urgency in the first step. We had to be patient. 0-0 is a good result, we have time. The right moment arrives, sometimes it's 43 minutes and sometimes it's earlier, against one of the best managers in the world setting up really well.

"People say after 20 minutes Manchester City have to win 3-0 and it is a fairy tale. When one team does not play it is difficult. And in that time we had to continue with the idea - when you lose the ball don't let them counter attack. Today they did that perfectly. We are not top of the league but are close to them."

On youngsters playing: "We don't give opportunities because they are academy. It is a business. We have a group in the academy that are so good. I love it because they gave you everything, they want to hit the wall and do everything.

"It is good for the young Mancunian players, it is so good. But they must be good otherwise they are not here. We have five or six players with good quality. When it's possible we can use them."

On Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking as Manchester United boss: "Well Ole and myself we know we depend on results, when we don't win at big clubs, maybe the biggest club, I don't know, in terms of titles, with Manchester United. Of course I wish him all the best, it was a pleasure to face him - he beat me many times. I'm pretty sure he will relax now and be back."

  4. 'It's difficult when you're not winning'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

    FT Man City 3-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton boss Rafael Benitez, speaking to BBC Match of the Day 2: "We were not a threat on the counter attack. When you make mistakes you pay for that. To concede a goal late in the first half... you feel you can change something in the dressing room but you can't do that.

"We changed a bit after the second goal, to change against City is not easy. It is a pity because the team was training well. It is difficult when you're not winning but I think we were close in a lot of games, it's about how the team is reacting.

"We know the players injured will be a problem, we have to go to January and try and win some games and we are convinced that in the second half of the season, with players coming back, we will be stronger."

A word about Jack Harrison. That was an exceptional pass for the goal. He showed a great work ethic to keep the move going before delivering it on a plate for Dan James. Leeds have to make this count because Spurs surely cannot be any worse than they were in the first 45.

Wow. Brilliant goal, lovely play from Leeds. Spurs dropped back as soon as Leeds got the ball. Too many players allowed to advance. Harrison whips a fabulous ball in; Dan James arrives for a simple tap-in. The desire and speed to get there ahead of the defenders is excellent. It is a really well worked goal from Leeds and they've deserved it.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2021

Boos ring out at half-time in Antonio Conte's first league home game in charge of Spurs.

Conte and Levy are going to fall out big time, not a question of ‘if’ just ‘when’. Spurs fans best hope is that Conte wins something before the meltdown.

Conte needs to get the back three sorted. Tanganga has come in; he is built for the right side of a three. He is very athletic, a good runner; it is just a matter of who that three are. There is Rodon, an out and out defender, and Romero. He's got lots of options.

Spurs are so bang average, Conte has got an enormous challenge. He's either been misled, or promised a war chest the likes of which Levy will have nightmares about providing. The current squad will be lucky to make the Euro Conference League again. Amazing crowd, abject performance. Again.

Based on this Spurs performance so far Conte must be gazing enviously at the vacant seat at Old Trafford.

Llorente took a gamble to step in and win the last ball. Normally you can't do that on the half way lime as a centre back in a back four, but he knows Kalvin Philips is dropping in that space, allowing Llorente to go all the way in with Harry Kane. It is definitely something they work on with Bielsa when facing a striker who drops deep because Phillips is a safety net.
