  1. Context for this Sundaypublished at 13:11 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2021

Right, so let's provide a bit of context to today's games with what went down yesterday.

Chelsea currently have a one-point lead at the top after Liverpool destroyed Southampton 4-0 to move up to second. Diogo Jota scored twice as the Reds cruised to victory.

A Blues win today restores their cushion at the top, but it means a bit of pressure on Man City to get a result against West Ham. If they get all three they will go back above Liverpool. A defeat will not only cost them that but will see the Hammers draw level with them on points.

Man City v West Ham (14:00 GMT)

There's still no Jack Grealish or Phil Foden in today's Manchester City squad.

Gabriel Jesus is rewarded for his winner against Paris St-Germain on Wednesday with a start. Aymeric Laporte replaces John Stones in the only other change from that Champions League win.

Pep Guardiola has only named eight, rather than nine, subs.

Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo, Rodri, Gundogan, Bernardo, Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez.

Subs: Steffen (GK), Carson (GK), Stones, Ake, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Palmer, McAtee.

Everton boss Rafael Benitez makes three changes from the 3-0 defeat by Manchester City last time out, as the Toffees' look to end a six-match winless run in the Premier League.

Enough of that for now, though. I've done three entries on the situation at Manchester United and Rangnick hasn't even been appointed yet. Plus, they play at half four. There are four whole games of Premier League football to play before we need to start worrying about that.

And we've got some team news for those...

  10. Rangnick key in coaching move - Tuchelpublished at 12:54 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2021

Ralf Rangnick and Thomas TuchelImage source, Getty Images

Just to ladle it on, Chelsea boss Tuchel says Rangnick was one of his key influences in becoming a football coach.

Rangnick is expected to take over as interim manager at Manchester United and Tuchel worked with the German during his playing days.

“He helped me a lot. He was my coach,” said Tuchel.

“Then he was one of the main figures to convince me to try coaching. He had a huge influence on all of us at this time. He showed me it’s not necessary to follow people to the toilet in football games.

“That was the belief then, the defenders follow strikers wherever they go. He showed us it’s possible to defend everybody in a zone.”

Tuchel’s side will face Manchester United on Sunday in the Premier League and currently sit in top spot, 12 points clear of eighth-placed United.

Tuchel says he has been “surprised” by United’s form this season, adding: “Maybe I still am. I will never write anybody off in this league. It is a big club with a very experienced and a group of players individually at a top level. This is still the case.

“Part of the performance from us is to not let them perform. Once we let them perform you can see in seconds and minutes the full potential and talent of these players.”

Manchester United would probably never admit this openly, but their decision to go for Ralf Rangnick as the interim successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was likely influenced at least in part by the success of the man in the opposition dugout today.

When Chelsea appointed Rangnick's fellow German gaffer Thomas Tuchel as manager to replace ex-playing legend Frank Lampard, they had won just one of their last five league games with the club five points outside the Champions League qualification spots.

United currently have one win in five and are six points off the top four. Time for some of that German magic.

  16. A chilly one at Turf Moorpublished at 12:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2021

Look at the scenes at Burnley.

If that game does make it (and it's going to need some serious clearing), we're going to be seen the lesser-spotted yellow balls. I always liked a more orange shade myself.

From my experience of going to games at Turf Moor, it will be colder than Jack Frost's top freezer draw over there.

  17. Snow jokepublished at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2021

    Winter has come, people.

Yesterday saw snoods, scarves and some mighty big coats on show at grounds across the country. Apart from your usual lunatics staunchly sticking to short-sleeved replica shirts. Difficult to tell where the blue Brighton top stopped and frost-bitten arm began.

Today, we've got the real deal - snow coming down. So, to those of you who have decided to join us and resist the temptation to go sledging or build your first snowman of the season, I say a big welcome.

Wherever you are, I hope you're wrapped up warm. Get that thermostat cranked up an extra degree. Go on, treat yourself.
