  1. Why Scots won't underestimate Faroespublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

Not many Scotland will underestimate the Faroe lslands, with draws in 1999 and 2002 instantly springing to mind.

BBC Scotland reporter Thomas Duncan has been finding how the Faroes have been slowly, steadily improving over the past 15 years.

Includes a quote on how they played like "world champions" fairly recently...

  2. What can we expect from the Faroes?published at 19:11 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

Led by 61-year-old Swede Hakan Ericson since 2019, the Faroes have showed steady improvement, running group leaders Denmark close and beating Moldova 2-1 at home to stay off the bottom of Group F.

Famously made up of amateurs until the 1990s, the Faroes now have a squad boasting several full-time professionals from leagues across Belgium, Austria, Norway and Denmark.

Their biggest-ever win came in June, when they thumped Liechtenstein 5-1 in a friendly, and they gave Austria a tough game in Torshavn on Saturday before losing 2-0.

Don't blame me for ramping up any nerves...

  3. 'Scotland could be nervous' - Faroes boss Ericsonpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

Faroe Islands head coach Hakan Ericson was happy to pass the pressure onto Scotland during his pre-match press conference.

The Faroes boss said if Steve Clarke's men don't succeed tonight, it would be "a little bit of a fiasco". He's not wrong, to be fair.

"We have to have this in our mental balance," Ericson adds. "If we win, it will be great, but if Scotland lose, it could be a catastrophe because maybe they could lose second place.

"Everyone knows that. They could be nervous - maybe one game in 10, we can win this type of game. You won't get anything for free against us, I can promise you that."

Are you one of the lucky ones out there supporting the lads?

    'Patterson & McGregor unfortunate'published at 18:56 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

Eric Bowman: One word - attacking. Patterson and McGregor a bit unfortunate, however credit to the manager for making strong decisions. Fraser and Christie are creative forwards and their emphasis is attack. Go win the game then defend.

Davymoncs: Thought Nisbet might have got a start.

I see McTominay as a mainstay in this side. When you see him playing for Manchester United, with all their stars, he's a top player. He's only a young lad, too, so he's always getting better.

  8. 'McTominay suspect defensively'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

    Willie Miller

    Quote Message

If McTominay is only playing as a defender at international level, he'll never develop the right instincts. You would always have to put a bracket after his name and say he is a little suspect defensively.

  9. Does McTominay get in first-choice XI?published at 18:45 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

A bit of debate in the studio about whether Scott McTominay gets into Scotland's full-strength XI.

    What do you think?

Thumbs up for yes, thumbs up for no.

  10. '88% chance of Scotland finishing second'published at 18:41 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

    Simon Gleave
    Head of sports analysis, Gracenote

Scotland have an 88% chance of finishing second in Group F, while their hopes of getting ahead of Denmark to win the group are at just 0.2%. We rank Scotland 47th on our world rankings and finishing second will be an overperformance as Austria are ranked above.

However, the play-offs will be tough given likely qualifiers and the fact it's two matches to get through, so the chance of Scotland qualifying for the World Cup is only 17% (up from 13%).

  11. As it stands in Group F...published at 18:37 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

Looks good, doesn't it? With back-to-back games to come against the Faroe Islands tonight and Moldova next month, it could end up looking a whole lot better.

All Steve Clarke's men have to do is collect six points from those fixtures and a play-off place is secured.

Even in Scotland terms, it sounds fairly simple. But what if you could put a percentage on it?

    Let's have a look...

  12. Three changes for Scotspublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has made three changes to the side that secured a dramatic victory against Israel on Saturday.

Che Adams, who is injured, Callum McGregor and Nathan Patterson all make way.

Ryan Christie is brought into the attack and Ryan Fraser comes in at right-wing back.

The final change sees Callum McGregor drop out for centre-back Grant Hanley, a switch that will see Scott McTominay move into midfield.

  15. Who made the fans' XI?published at 18:17 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

While we wait for the Scotland team news to filter through, let's have a look at what you voted for.

With Grant Hanley back from suspension, the Norwich City centre-half is straight into your team, with Scott McTominay moving forward to midfield.

Callum McGregor drops out, while Kevin Nisbet starts up front in the absence of the injured Che Adams.

How close will that be to the line-up Steve Clarke has picked? We'll find out shortly...

You have to feel good after experiencing the atmosphere at Hampden on Saturday night. I don't think I can remember anything as electric as that. The feel-good factor is there and it's got to continue tonight. Surely we won't let it fall by the wayside?

  19. Scotland six points from play-offspublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 12 October 2021

    Faroe Islands v Scotland (19:45)

In the words of the Scotland camp, it's "cup final" two of three for Steve Clarke's men tonight as the Faroe Islands await in Torshavn.

Victory tonight for the Scots means they are just one win away from a World Cup play-off spot, with games against Moldova and Denmark to come in the final group fixtures.

They don't get much bigger than this. Let's just hope it's more straight forward than Saturday.

We'll have the team news as soon at it comes in. In the meantime, tune into Sportsound on Radio Scotland or simply click play at the top of this page.
