  1. NI 'making it hard for themselves'published at 20:26 British Summer Time 7 July 2022

    Norway 2-0 Northern Ireland

    Natasha Dowie
Reading and England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Northern Ireland are making it really hard for themselves. They have bodies behind the ball but not being effective at all. There is a back five but nobody is putting pressure on the ball. The midfield two are getting dragged round. The front three don't look like they know what they're doing. It's easy for Norway.

    Norway 2-0 Northern Ireland

That should have been the third for Norway.

An inviting cross from the left finds Ada Hegerberg at the back post, but her header is off target.

Even the best can miss easy chances. You could see how disappointed she was with that one, too.

    Take a bow, Jackie Burns.

Two outstanding saves from the NI keeper, one from close range and the second from distance, keep the score at 2-0.

Just for a second there it looked as if Simone Magill might have been in for Northern Ireland.

Keeper Pettersen won the race to the through ball, though.

Another Norway attack but this one comes to nothing as Jackie Burns comfortably collects a left-wing cross.

That was the big fear ahead of kick-off, and it's a real shame because Northern Ireland actually settled really well.

You can feel the crowd urging them on, and that will hopefully help them ride out this period of sustained pressure.

On another note. Caroline Graham Hansen. What a player.

    Norway 2-0 Northern Ireland

This has been a horrible few minutes for Northern Ireland.

Not conceding an early goal would have been top of their to-do list, and now they have conceded two.

They'd made a decent start, too, but that won't mean much now.

    Stephen Craigan
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you go behind you have to make sure don’t concede a quick second. Kenny Shiels asked the players to be brave. They have to make better decisions. Northern Ireland have a mountain to climb.

What a press from Ada Hegerberg and what awareness for a simple tap-in.

Northern Ireland will be very disappointed at how they have conceded there.

GOAL - Norway 2-0 Northern Irelandpublished at 20:14 British Summer Time 7 July 2022

    Frida Maanum (13 mins)

That was a poor goal for Northern Ireland to concede.

Frida Maanum closed down Chloe McCarron, with the ball falling to Ada Hegerberg, who played a simple square pass back to Maanum who rolled into an empty net.

Simple but clinical from the Norwegians.

That's a decent driving run through the middle from Norway's Frida Maanum but her shot was weak and deflected straight to NI keeper Jackie Burns.

Hansen showed her class down the right there for Norway, beating a few players before delivering an inviting cross.

Reiten's header was disappointing and off-target, though. Let-off for Northern Ireland.

What a block that was from Sarah McFadden on Ada Hegerberg.

Outstanding defending from the stand-in skipper on the global star.

Nice positive start from Northern Ireland with a strong run down the right from Abbie Magee.

    The cross is cleared though.

Right, the build-up has been brilliant (over the last 15 months I mean, not just on this live text).

But it's time to get the ball out.

Northern Ireland's major tournament debut is officially underway.

That was a proper goosebumps moment when Northern Ireland stepped out.

You can't even begin to imagine how those 11 players are feeling as they make history.

You just have to look at qualifying to see how important Rachel Furness is for our team.

She is the driving force from midfield in the team, plays with passion and that is only a good thing for our team.

    That's properly lovely.

Team huddles from both teams just ahead of kick-off.

You can see what it means to them already.
