Why does there always seem to be a big fitness talking point around key players going into major tournaments?

For Northern Ireland it was captain Marissa Callaghan and an injured toe in May. When she was photographed at a club match with protective footwear on, worry began to set in for supporters.

The news is good, though, with the Cliftonville midfielder saying on Wednesday that she is "fit and ready to go".

The Northern Ireland players have just gone back in from doing that traditional pre-match stroll on the pitch.

As always with this team, it was smiles and photos all round.

A small pocket of their fans are here already and they gave the team a nice reception.

  3. Matchday for NI’s history makerspublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 7 July 2022

Norway v Northern Ireland (20:00 BST)

It’s matchday for Northern Ireland, but not like they have ever known it before.

Tonight, on day two of Euro 2022, Kenny Shiels' side will become the first NI women’s team to play in a major tournament when they take on Norway here at St Mary’s.

The team’s story is a truly remarkable one and now it's 'game on' for a squad dubbed the game-changers.

There were a few years not that long ago when the country didn’t even have a women’s international team - and when it did reform the players had to fund their travel themselves.

Some of those players from back then form the backbone of a current squad from which over half play part-time football.

Tonight the lowest-ranked team in the tournament is taking on global stars in Lyon’s Ava Hegerberg and Barcelona’s Caroline Graham Hansen, and a country that has twice won the competition.

As with every match in this tournament, BBC Sport has live TV and radio coverage, with our live text commentary online.

    Enjoy!
