This is what Svenja Huth is all about - really sharp, she never gives up. It's a difficult header for Buhl, who just gets too much on it.

Denmark have a chance with a free kick some 30 yards from goal but it comes to nothing.

It has been a fairly open start, not many chances but both sides are showing attacking intent.

Interesting to see how Denmark fair physically against the Germans. They aim to play with high intensity. One of the key players that stand out for Denmark and has come back from injury is Rikke Sevecke.

She's been injured for most of the season. A real loss to us (Everton) as she is a really strong centre-half. I've been speaking to her regularly and she is feeling good. Having Rikke in the backline for Denmark is a real boost for them.

Bright start by Denmark as we get a first glimpse of Pernille Harder's quality. She wins the ball just inside the Germany half and feeds Rikke Madsen but her ball into the box is cut out.

You always hear players when they qualify for a major tournament, it's such a big year. The year running into a tournament where you're playing, you want to know how much minutes you are going to get. It's not a great place to be in if you are not playing club football.

To make that jump into international football and not having regular minutes under your belt, it is tough. Minutes do play a big part in this.

As a defender, it's really hard to stop Pernille Harder. She can dribble in a small space, she's so fast, she can shoot at goal. She's also been standing up for women's football for a long time. She's so impressive as a human and as a role model.

Fifteen years ago or so, everybody feared Germany. They had quality players and a whole production line of talent coming through. The fear factor now has gone because other nations have caught up. Germany were so dominant for so many years, but not anymore.

There has been a lot of attention on Germany's defensive frailties. They have always been a machine. Perhaps they are experiencing a bit of a dip, but it would be really dangerous to write them off in the tournament.

I spoke with Germany and Chelsea goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger a few weeks ago and she was excited the Euros is being played in her "special second home".

The last time Germany competed in England - in February's Arnold Clark Cup tournament - they were hit with a Covid outbreak and had several key injuries so Berger is confident they can do better.

“I think the transitional bit for us was in the last two years but we now have certain players who have played for Germany for a couple of years now," said Berger.

"Germany are not the biggest fear anymore but we’re trying to get back to that.

"We have a lot of young players but also a lot of experienced players so I think right now it’s a good time and we have the balance of both.

"It’s sometimes good to not always have everyone expecting you to be good. You can prove them wrong as a footballer – I quite like it."

WSL fans will know Chelsea forward Pernille Harder very well and she is the face of women's football in Denmark.

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall, whose side came across Harder several times during the 2021-22 season, gave me some analysis on her.

"Pernille is excellent in the space between the opponent's midfield and the box. Part of this is because she is so good at preparing what to do before she gets the ball," he said.

"When you see her play she is always scanning. She is great with her non-verbal communication and how she wants it to be played to her.

"She is one of the most intelligent players in the final third."

Denmark head into this tournament looking to build on their Euro 2017 run.

They reached the final on that occasion where they lost 4-2 to the Netherlands.

FC Rosengard defender Katrine Veje said: "We know what the Germans can do. I played against Bayern in the Champions League with Malmo.

"They are just insanely good technically and have pace beyond compare. So we need to be brave and avoid being pressed."
