Amid the joy of Northern Ireland scoring their first-ever goal at a major tournament against Norway on Thursday night, there was that crushing injury blow for Simone Magill.

The Northern Ireland striker left the pitch in tears after suffering what was revealed a few days later as an ACL injury.

She took to social media on Saturday to reveal the depth of her pain, saying "words are a struggle".

Austria will be unable to reach the quarter-finals if they lose and England do not beat Norway.

Northern Ireland will be unable to reach the quarter-finals if they lose and Norway do not beat England.

England will be through to the quarter-finals (as group winners) if they win and Northern Ireland do not beat Austria.

Norway will be through to the quarter-finals (as group winners) if they win and Austria do not beat Northern Ireland.

Austria manager Irene Fuhrmann has made three changes to her starting line-up from their opening night defeat by England.

In come Katharina Schiechtl, Marie-Therese Hobinger and Julia Hickelsberger-Fuller in place of Laura Wienroither, Katharina Naschenweng and Laura Feiersinger.

Austria: Zinsberger, Schiechtl, Wenninger, Dunst, Zadrazil, Schnaderbeck, Hobinger, Billa, Puntigam, Hickelsberger-Fuller, Hanshaw.

"I hope she has more bruises than me," was Sarah McFadden's response when asked about her tussle with Norwegian star Ada Hegerberg on Thursday night.

Stand-in captain McFadden led from the back for Northern Ireland and was constantly embroiled in a battle with Hegerberg, who was making her return to tournament football for the first time since 2017.

Thirty-five-year-old McFadden, who plays club football with Durham, enjoyed her tussle with the Lyon Champions League winner, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2018.

Julie Nelson, the international stalwart who had been around when the team was disbanded 20 years ago, headed Northern Ireland's first-ever goal at a major women's tournament against Norway.

She may have been surprised, but she was also filled with pride.

Erin Carroll does everything at Altrincham FC - from commentary, post-match interviews and press photos to preparing the pitch for the new season - and all at just 15 years old.

She's urging other young girls to get involved in the game at local level and help breed the next generation of female football influencers.

Such is the versatility of Rebecca Holloway, she could play wide on the left of a front three, but I think she will be the left of three centre backs with Demi Vance and Rebecca McKenna providing width on the flanks.

We knew already that star striker Simone Magill was out and midfielder Nadene Caldwell - who went off injured against Norway - is not in the starting line-up either. Kelsie Burrows and Abbie Magee also drop out.

Captain Marissa Callaghan starts in midfield in place of Caldwell after coming on as a half-time sub on Thursday, while Kirsty McGuinness comes in up front for Magill.

Rebecca McKenna replaces Magee at right-back with Rebecca Holloway taking Burrows' place in the centre of the defence.

They lost the game 4-1 to Norway and the Northern Ireland players and manager expressed their disappointment at that.

However, when Julie Nelson, the more experienced player in the squad, headed home their goal early in the second-half, it was a moment that will live long in the memory for so many people.
