England manager Sarina Wiegman, speaking to BBC One: "Before the last game we were relaxed too. It was a very big game, the opening game of the tournament in front of such a crowd.

"We were working up to that game for a long time. We had moments where we lost the ball quicker than we should, but we’re ready now again.

"It’s a big game against a very good opponent. We’re really looking forward to it."

  2. 'A pressure game'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

Former Liverpool and Norway international John Arne Riise: "England is the favourites, but this is a pressure game for both managers.

"To me, Guro Reiten has the engine, she's powerful and can shoot. She's the player England need to take out otherwise she will have a shot or an assist."

Barcelona's Caroline Graham Hansen is widely considered as one of the world's best and has been leading the Norway team in Hegerberg's absence.

Now she gets to share the attacking fun with her illustrious team-mate.

She did net in their impressive 4-1 win over Northern Ireland.

"Everyone knows she's a top player and incredible at dribbling. She's one of the best players I've come up against personally," says England's Jess Carter.

"If I come up against her again I will be more tight, more aggressive, and do my best to keep her as far wide as possible. We've got a lot of experience in the squad and we're good enough defensively to deal with her.

"We're well aware of what her strengths are but what our strengths are too."

First up is inaugural Ballon d'Or winner Ada Hegerberg, who is back in the Norway side after a five-year absence.

The 27-year-old is the all-time top scorer in the Women's Champions League, having won the tournament six times with Lyon.

She was missing from the scoresheet on matchday one but she did pretty much everything else in a victory.

She showed great awareness to set up Frida Maanum to make it 2-0, was denied by a superb interception by Abbie Magee and had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half at Southampton's St Mary's Stadium.

To check England's optimism a tad, they did lose their most recent meeting in a friendly in September 2019. Before this run, the Lionesses had lost 11 of their first 12 games (D1) against Norway between 1981 and 2002.

Norway also put four past Northern Ireland on matchday one.

Oh, and they have a couple of useful forwards too! Allow us to explain...

England have reasons to be confident ahead of this game in Brighton.

Top of the pile is the fact that the Lionesses are unbeaten in all 15 matches under manager Sarina Wiegman (W13 D2), extending the longest unbeaten run in their history. Over this period, they have scored 85 goals while conceding only three in return.

That run has helped lift England up to eighth in the world rankings, three places higher than tonight's opponents.

England have also won five of their last eight matches against Norway in all competitions, including a 3-0 victory in the quarter-finals of the 2019 World Cup.

There was a bit of an edge to Sarina Wiegman's press conference yesterday as she was asked about the comments from Norway's camp that England will be under more pressure.

There's no denying this is a big game - for both sides - with the winner likely to top the group.

"It's easy to put pressure on us," said Wiegman with a wry smile on her face.

"We know what we want. We want to play our best game and we want to entertain."

You can expect to see the same competitive edge in the game tonight. Both teams are packed full of talent and they will not want to lose...

  9. 'If they want to be underdog, that's fine'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    England v Norway (20:00 BST)

Wiegman said she was happy for Norway to "want to be the underdogs" in Monday's group match at the European Women's Championship.

Brushing off suggestions England were under more pressure as tournament hosts, Wiegman said their focus was solely on winning and "entertaining".

"Tomorrow is just a game. We want to win and they want to," Wiegman said.

"If they want to be the underdog, that's fine. I think they have a very strong squad and we do too. I expect an open match so let's see where it goes. Obviously I hope we win it."

Wiegman also said it was "easy to put pressure on" England but said Norway would see victory as equally important to boost their chances of topping the group.

"We know what we want. We want to play our best game and we want to entertain," said Wiegman.

"You're talking about someone who has said something about us [but] has not been with us. That's OK. It's nice they are trying to put pressure on us.

"We're just working on our game and how we want to play. I don't think about being the hosts, I think about the game."

Norway are currently top of Group A on goal difference with both teams winning their opening matches.

And they have been more than happy to play some mind games ahead of tonight's clash between the sides.

Norway boss Martin Sjogren had earlier suggested nerves had played a part in a slightly underwhelming performance by England in their 1-0 win over Austria.

He also said Norway were "definitely underdogs" because England are ranked three places higher.

"England is one of the big favourites for the tournament. I think England feels quite a lot of pressure from being at home, being one of the favourites," he added.

"They've had very good performances, especially in the preparations before the Euros. England need to be the favourites in this game going into it."

Sarina Wiegman is not someone to take a step back from a challenge...

Brighton is ready for tonight's game as the streets have been filled with banners about the Euros.

We went for a meal last night in the city centre and the waitor was asking for our predictions (I'll keep those quiet just in case)!

You can sense the buzz around the city and even though the Amex stadium is just outside, the locals are expected to arrive in numbers.

Manchester United midfielder Vilde Boe Risa comes into midfield, replacing Arsenal's Frida Maanum.

Norway XI: Petterson, T Hansen, Mjelde, Thorisdottir, Blakstad, Engen, Boe Risa, Saevik, Graham Hansen, Reiten, Hegerberg.

  14. The first proper test?published at 19:02 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

    England v Norway (20:00 BST)

With all due respect to Austria, they were an opponent England expected to beat. That the Austrians made it as hard as they did last Wednesday is hugely to their credit.

The Lionesses, though, emerged from the game with a win (thanks to Beth Mead's neat finish) and a sense that this whole occasion will not completely swallow them, but still with questions as to their ability to go the whole way.

Tonight, they face a sterner test, against Norway and their stellar forwards Ada Hegerberg and Caroline Graham Hansen.

Tonight's winner and sitting pretty. The loser? Well, they're in for a right old scrap in the final round of group fixtures.
