    Italy 0-0 Belgium

There's absolutely no point in either of these sides worrying about what's going on in the other match for the time being. It's all about getting the job done in Manchester.

Hopefully, for us, it means both sides go for it from the off.

Maybe it is the heat or maybe it is the fact this is a dead rubber for France but the crowd appears a bit smaller tonight than in previous games held at the New York Stadium.

In the far corner, though, is a pocket of blue. That's where a large amount of the Iceland fans are positioned and they are comfortably the most vocal in the ground.

  4. 'We have to stick to our game'published at 19:55 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

    Iceland v France (20:00 BST)

Iceland head coach Thorsteinn Halldorsson speaking on BBC Two:

"We have found some ways we can beat France we think, and hopefully that will go well and I hope that we will see some opportunities in the game to stop them scoring and score some goals."

On watching Belgium v Italy game: "We will get some information from the other game, we'll see how that goes - we have to stick to our game, control our game and the second-half maybe we'll think about what we have to do but we have to play a good game here and just think about that."

On fans: "They help us a lot, it's great to have the supporters here with us."

The only time Italy have failed to make the last eight was when they went out in the group stage in 2017.

Belgium, who suffered the same fate on their debut five years ago, have never made the last eight.

  6. 'Not the most important night of our careers'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

    Italy v Belgium (20:00 BST)

Italy coach Milena Bertolini insists tonight's crucial match against Belgium is "not the most important night of our career" as her side attempt to leap from the bottom of the group and into the tournament's last eight.

They reached the quarter-finals at the 2019 World Cup, where they were beaten by the Netherlands.

"We had some big nights at the World Cup. But it's an important night, a decisive game," said Bertolini.

"It's not the most important night of our careers. It's much harder to confirm oneself at a certain level.

"We did well at the World Cup in 2019, so now the expectations are much higher."

There's a heatwave raging across England and everyone is struggling to keep cool - except the Italians who are ALWAYS cool.

Here are their players turning up for tonight's game. If there was a best dressed award at Euro 2022, they would walk it.

  8. 'The will to win will decide it'published at 19:46 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

    Italy v Belgium (20:00 BST)

It's a huge game for both Italy and Belgium, and it could all very well come down to who can handle the pressure of the occasion.

"The will to win will make the difference, not the tactical aspect or our physical ability," Belgium defender Laura de Neve said.

"We are hungry for the win. It is a big game for Belgian women's football as well.

"We can make history if we qualify."

  9. The state of play - part IIpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

    Now for the tricky part.

This scenario comes into play if Iceland lose and Italy v Belgium finishes 1-1.

In this case, second place will be decided on overall goal difference.

    Then goals scored.

    Then the teams' disciplinary record.

And then their Uefa coefficient ranking.

  10. Iceland focused on own gameplanpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

    Iceland v France (20:00 BST)

Iceland need to win their crucial Group D finale with already-qualified France to be sure of a quarter-final against Sweden.

However, a draw would be enough should Italy's game with Belgium also result in the points being shared.

A defeat may still be fine, if the other game finishes 0-0.

But Iceland defender Glodis Perla Viggosdottir says they will try not to worry about the result in Manchester.

"This is not something that we focus on until maybe in the very end if we will then need to take some risk," she said.

"But until then we go into this game with our gameplan, which is to win."

France started really well in the tournament - they were phenomenal in their opening game. Second game we saw the France of old where they're so inconsistent in their performances. Will we see the France of the opening game out here today? You don't know what France team is going to turn up.

  12. 'France will not want to play us'published at 19:40 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

    Iceland v France (20:00 BST)

Defending champions the Netherlands set up an enticing quarter-final with France by beating Switzerland on Sunday to finish second in Group C.

They will meet Group D winners France for a place in the semi-finals at Rotherham's New York Stadium on Saturday, 23 July.

"France are a top opponent but so are we," Netherlands boss Mark Parsons said.

"They will not want to play us. We see an opportunity."

The thermometer may be pushing 40C here in Rotherham but that wasn't stopping the Iceland fans bunching together for big march down to the New York Stadium a couple of hours before kick off.

I've covered three games here and this has been the best atmosphere I've seen pre match. Iceland may be small but they've had a big presence in South Yorkshire.

Is it wrong to take your shirt off in the press box?

They were spraying the pitch earlier and I was seriously tempted to go and stand in the centre circle to cool down.

It's seriously hot and it felt like I was walking into a sauna when I left the air conditioned press room for the press box.

On a serious note, there have been announcements over the speakers to remind fans to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

It's is 37C here. The only suits the locals drinking outside the town's pubs were wearing earlier were closer to birthday suits.

Yesterday I was a few miles down the road watching Sweden destroy Portugal in Costa del Leigh.

A street trader was taking advantage of the baking heat by selling water spray fans close to the ground - £6 each or two for £10.

I didn't witness any of Manchester's entrepreneurs cashing in on the heatwave on my way into the Academy Stadium - but I did get here ridiculously early.

There was already a queue forming for the media centre and Uefa staff were handing out bottles of water to keep everyone cool.

France are through, but not without a cost.

That's because they lost key striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto to a knee injury in their last game and she is now ruled out for the entire tournament.

That is a huge blow because the PSG striker was widely tipped to pick up the Golden Boot, so her prospective goals will be a big miss for France in the knockouts.

Still, tonight offers a good chance for someone else to step up and prove their worth in Katoto's absence.
