    You've got to feel a bit for Iceland. Twice they've taken the lead at this Euros and twice they've been pegged back to draw.

    They don't need to beat France to progress, but they'd rather not be relying on what's happening in the other group game.

    Iceland fans have brought fun and the thunderclap to this tournament and generating a big atmosphere at Rotherham's New York Stadium tonight could make a big difference.

  2. The state of playpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

    Here's where we're at in Group D.

    • France have already qualified as group winners after thumping Italy and edging past Belgium in their opening two group games;
    • Iceland will qualify if they beat France, if both Monday's games end in a draw, or with a defeat if Italy draw 0-0 with Belgium.
    • Belgium will advance if they win and Iceland lose to France, but will miss out if they draw 0-0. If Belgium draw by any scoreline apart from 0-0 or 1-1, they will qualify as long as Iceland lose.
    • Italy must beat Belgium and hope Iceland fail to beat France.

    Most host cities and towns for Euro 2022 have had big fan parks for fans to get in the mood for games but Rotherham have done things a bit differently, opting to exhibit the cultural aspect of the town throughout the centre.

    As a result trees and street lamps are adorned in knitting from local knitters and there's posters dotted along the streets highlighting the works of the town's young writers.

    There isn't really one big area where all fans gather although there is a music stage, showcasing local singers, that the Iceland fans made very much their base before kick off.

    Tonight Euro 2022 bids farewell to the Academy Stadium, comfortably the smallest of the 10 venues at this tournament.

    Organisers have been accused of being unambitious for using the facility, which lies in the shadow of Manchester City's Etihad Stadium and has a capacity of 4,400 for this tournament.

    A bookmaker even poked fun by flying an inflatable arrow over the ground pointing towards the 55,000-capacity Etihad Stadium with 'anyone seen a stadium big enough for a Euros game?' on it.

    But the Academy Stadium has rolled out the red carpet for a prime minister and a president over the past couple of weeks - as well as Belgium men's boss Roberto Martinez.

    It is also the place where the Viking clap was heard for the first time at Euro 2022.

    It has provided two cracking atmospheres so far and Iceland fans will certainly remember it with fondness - even if others are not so sure.
