  4. 'I have to believe we will do well'published at 23:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Everton

Everton boss Rafael Benitez speaking to BBC Sport: "I have to believe we will do well. I am convinced we will do well in the second part of the season but we have to start winning to be sure we can keep the belief.

"But the way we did it at the beginning, the way when he had all the players available is what I am expecting for the second part of the league."

  5. 'It only takes one game to turn it around'published at 23:16 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Everton

Everton goal scorer Demarai Gray speaking to Amazon: "Mistakes have let us down and giving away easy goals - something we have to work on and fix."

Do you see yourselves in a relegation battle? "No - we had a great start to the season. It only takes one game just to turn it around we have a lot of games over this Christmas period and hopefully we can get a win and some momentum and get some more wins."

Should the manager be blamed? "That's how it is but as layers e have to take accountability - we are the ones on the pitch, we have to do things better. We're a good squad, we've had a few injuries but don't want to use that as an excuse. We just need to get a win and focus on pushing on from there.

  7. 'I am frustrated - we deserved more'published at 23:13 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Wolves 0-0 Burnley

    Wolves

Wolves manager Bruno Lage talking to Amazon: “We dominated all the game and especially when you play against a team against Burnley you need to win the duals and the boys were fantastic today and we won all the goals. We created some good chances, but we didn’t score. That is the Premier League. It was a big opportunity to win points, but tonight it is just one point and now it is time to recover.

“The opponents will know that we can create changes now and if teams come with the attitude like Burnley – they are compact and aggressive – then they know we can do the same. I am happy in that way, but I am frustrated because I think we deserved more.

“People can understand our way of working after 14 games. We were very happy with how Adama Traore is playing – he missed a chance but he played well.

“We need to continue our way – it is a long journey. Every game is hard to play – the most important thing is what the players do. We tried to play our game – we were there. We won all of the duals. The three centre backs will really well to control the game.”

  8. 'Any away point is a good one'published at 23:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Wolves 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley defender Charlie Taylor talking to Amazon: "It was a tough game for many different reasons. For a 0-0 there was a lot of action and lot of changes. They say if you can't win them to make sure you don't lose them - any point away from home is a good one.

"We know that Wolves are a good counter-attacking team. We knew what it would be like coming here but we thought as a team we defended really well.

"We thought we needed to be better on the ball in the second half and just a little bit braver in possession. We looked solid at the back and had to withstand a lot of pressure at time."

  9. 'I have to improve my finishing'published at 23:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Wolves 0-0 Burnley

    Wolves

Wolves winger Adama Traore talking to Amazon: "We went for the game since minute one. We were unlucky but we'll keep trying and working.

"I had time to maybe not go for power, but I decided to do that. It was close to going in, but that is not enough. I have to improve those things for myself and for my team.

"It is my main goal to score more goals. I've had one v one situations - I'm having those situations but i need to improve."

  10. 'The players did everything we asked of them'published at 23:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Wolves 0-0 Burnley

    Wolves

Wolves manager Bruno Lage talking to Match of the Day: “In the end with the way we played and the chances we created we deserve at least one goal. This is the Premier League. We played against a hard team with how they play. The good points were that when we had the ball we played our game and when we didn’t we played better than them. Sometimes you have to play in that way and be more aggressive and win the duals and today we did that. It is one more point and I am not disappointed with the players – I am happy because they did everything we planned and asked them to do.

“It is like how we played the season – we played four or five games with not many goals and then we scored a lot of the goals. At the other end we have three clean sheets. It is important for people to understand how we play the game.

“I am very happy with Adama Traore today. In my head I wanted him to pass to Raul Jimenez but once he had the touch he needed to shoot, he’d took the defender out of the way and he did everything he could to score. He played very well inside and that is something we are working on with him. It was the sort of Adama us and the fans want to see.”

  11. 'I can't ask for more effort'published at 23:07 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

FT: Aston Villa 1-2 Man City

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard, speaking to Amazon Prime: "Really close to taking something from the game. Second half was really good. We started with too much respect and were too passive. Once we got a foothold we conceded a goal. At 1-0 that is OK. You reset. The second goal was the blow. I said it was important we scored the next goal and we were fantastic second half. We had the two big moments of the second half. The young kid will learn from his experience and his chance. He will get more opportunities. We had a decent penalty shout we didn't get too. Nine out of ten referees outside the box give a foul.

"Players, myself and the staff wanted the reaction. At 2-0 if you go passive they can run away with the game. They can score more. To a man I can't ask for more. We played terrific stuff and had big moments.

On Leon Bailey: "He has a problem we will analyse. He will need an MRI scan. I am going to expect a few niggles because the training intensity has gone up. It is a muscle problem.

"We needed this game at this time. A real acid test. At times, City looked a level above and it was an education. But we said to take the game to the wire and believe in ourselves. We will keep trying to grow and close the gap."

  12. 'We played 90 exceptional minutes'published at 23:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

FT: Aston Villa 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Sport: "We make an incredible game because I know how good they are. Steven Gerrard is already a great manager. They know exactly what they want to do with a lot of quality.

"We played 90 minutes exceptional. With the quality Villa to have to concede not many chances. I say to the players, they [the injured players] are not here and are not going to help us win. The academy will help us win.

"When Kevin de Bruyne doesn't play and Phil Foden doesn't play we are not a team to run on the counter attack but that goal, was exceptional from Bernardo Silva.

"We see tomorrow. I don't think so but they were not here. Tomorrow we will assess.

"People can express what they want [towards Jack Grealish]. If they boo it is because they love him so much. I thought a lot of people were clapping. A warm welcome back to this club. He lives this club more than any other. He decided to take the next step to play in Europe."

  13. 'We didn't create enough problems for Wolves'published at 23:01 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Wolves 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche talking to Match of the Day: "It was a really tough game. We weren't as good as have been recently but the defence resilience and organisation was really pleasing. We just didn't deal with the ball as well we'd have liked or cause them enough problems as we'd have liked.

"We started really well. Chris Wood had a couple of early chances and Vydra one too but generally we weren't were we needed to be to win a game. We weren't on the mark today, but we did enough to deserve a point and a clean sheet.

"Nathan Collins is doing really well - he's worked very hard. He's adapting to us and I'm really enjoying what he's about. Him and Jack Cork fitted in really well. We were a little bit skinny on the bench too."

On the game being 'tasty'": "Tasty? Not at all. It was great to see tackles and that the players are allowed to do that again."

  14. 'Our best performance at Goodison by far'published at 22:59 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Amazon Prime: "It was a really good game from my team, a really mature performance, grown up performance, much better than in years before, especially at Goodison.

"We were much too open when we gave away the goal but it can happen when you are superior. We should have been one or two nil up before we scored the first goal.

"We scored the goals at 2-0 and maybe then we were not that ruthless, we gave them so life back. I am not seeking for perfection, if it would be easy I know everyone could do it. The boys did well."

Emotional return after injuries here for Van Dijk and Thiago before? "Human beings obviously. Last time we were here we had two massive injuries. We are like a family and when someone is badly injured, you come in the dressing room and you feel it. He dealt with it exceptionally well, like Thiago did, all the boys did because you can become emotional."

On Mo Salah: "He was angry after the game! He wanted to score the third one. I don't take these things for granted. His second goal, you have to force these kind of mistakes. Mo put Coleman under pressure to win that ball and from then on it is a good chance he will score.

"We have momentum but it was by far the best performance since I've been at Liverpool at Goodison.

"Before the game people told me that in derbies form or shape doesn't count, I see it totally different."

  15. 'Dias has made a huge impact'published at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

FT: Aston Villa 1-2 Man City

    Scott Minto
Former Chelsea and West Ham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

What an impact Ruben Dias has made - for all the wonderful silky, technical players they have he's almost the Vincent Kompany of the team now. He's a leader. It's him +1 at the back and they very rarely concede, he's one of the main reasons why. He's come from a fantastic club but you can see that and he's already a massive City fan and really feels the passion himself.

City were comfortable and Aston Villa came back into it and they still won - champions win no matter what. We've got three champions and only one can hold the trophy, it's a great season already.

  16. 'We maybe deserved something from the game'published at 22:56 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

FT: Aston Villa 1-2 Man City

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard speaking to BBC Sport: "The performance second half was really good. It maybe deserved that we take something from the game. We lacked a bit of belief at the start of the first half. That is a combination of them having top players and manager. We got a foothold and then conceded. The second goal we could have stopped the game higher up the pitch. The reaction I got, I can't ask for more. I think the fans appreciated that. We have come so closer to getting something from the game.

"We are playing against a team that have just been to the European Cup final, have world class players and possibly the best manager in the world. We appreciate what we are up against. But to take them to the end that is a real positive. I can't ask for ore effort.

"We scored a fantastic goal from a set play. Ollie was unplayable at times. Young kid comes on and his big moment comes. Keeper makes a save but he will learn from that. We also has real decent shout for a penalty. I don't understand why the referee didn't look at the screen."

On Leon Bailey: "He was starting to look a real threat in training. We will analyse his injury in the coming days. It looks like he will miss at least a couple of games."

  17. 'Salah makes my job easier'published at 22:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson, talking to Amazon: "Going forward and the chances that we created, not only tonight but over the last few weeks, has been outstanding. Defending is a big part of our game - I thought we defended well for the majority of tonight and that gives us a platform to go forward as we did.

"We spoke about just playing our normal game which is high tempo and pressing anyway. It was just about playing like we have in the last few weeks and playing like we have for the majority of the season and I think we managed that tonight. We were disappointed with the goal, but we reacted well in the second half, but going forward we need to make sure we don't concede anymore goals like that.

"It was a nice feeling to score tonight and get my first goal against Everton. Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson did really well down the left and thankfully it went in!"

On Mohamed Salah:"He's been outstanding this season and at the moment you wouldn't want to play against him. It makes my job easier because you just give him the ball and he goes and puts it in the net. It was outstanding from him."

  18. 'We made a big step in our development'published at 22:50 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Later on I will enjoy watching it because I know the result, that helps it. I had moments tonight that I enjoyed a lot. I liked what I saw and it was by far the best performance we've done at Goodison. We made a big step in our development that we can take these kind of games, even though they are really important for the opponent. We can put emotions to the side.

"What football moments we had in the first half - incredible! The positions we put on the pitch made it really difficult to get at us. We gave a goal away for no reason - that is how it is. The crowd were angry and we gave them life back. After half-time we controlled it again - we showed the boys two or three situations and the way they defended we could have sent Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah away a lot more in one-on-one situations.

"It was for sure a nine out of 10 performance from each of the boys, apart from moments. We shouldn't take that for granted though. It is all about the boys. It was all over a pretty good performance."

  19. 'Mistake changed the game'published at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Everton

Everton boss Rafael Benitez, speaking to Amazon Prime: "I think anyone who could see the game we made too many mistakes and when you do that against a top side you pay for it.

"The fans at the beginning were pushing and after we scored the atmosphere was really good. Then the second half we started on top but then another mistake changed the game.

"We are talking about key players missing and maybe these key players are very important for the rest of the group to play at the level they can play.

"It is always bad to lose but when you lose to a team that has spent so much money and have so many good players sometimes it is because you make a mistake and the other team is quite good."

Worried about a relegation battle? "No. I still have confidence the team will do well. We need to bring players back and we will be as strong as we were at the beginning.

"We need to learn we cannot make these types of mistakes."

  20. ''We are going to face the challenge'published at 22:46 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

FT: Aston Villa 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Amazon Prime: "The game we played was fantastic. Difficult game. We knew it. I understand why. Especially after conceding early in the second half, the way we reacted... we played really well."

On Bernardo Silva: "He scored a fantastic goal. Depends on him. when a player has this quality it depends on them. He is a player on another level. Ruben has good personalities. He scored a good goal."

On whether players will be back from injury soon: "I don't know. Hopefully they come back soon. The doctor came to me and say 'this guy, this guy and this guy can't travel' so I say 'OK. Bring players from the academy and we go with them.'"

On whether they are ready for the title challenge: "Do we have another alternative? So we are going to face the challenge."
