  1. 'We deserved at least a point'published at 22:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Watford 1-2 Chelsea

    Watford

Watford boss Claudio Ranieri to BBC Sport: "We deserved at least a point but that’s football. I'm very satisfied with our performance. We must continue this way and sooner or later the points will arrive. We must believe in ths job. They’re working very well. I hope the fans are proud of us. I'm proud of my players. We pushed in every situation. Chelsea have fantastic players but all we can do is keep going and believe.

"We never gave up. We want to continue in this way. We believe this is the right way.

"It’s difficult to say [what they could have done to get a result]. We did our best. A team like Chelsea never had a corner tonight, we pushed a lot. We put them under pressure and nothing. We miss a point. Just this.

"They came three times and scored a goal twice. We tried to do our best.

"Now we are involved in a relegation battle but if we continue to play in this way with this mentality, all together - I saw a fantastic group..."

On the medical emergency: "Good news. The man is in good condition. I wish him and his family all the best."

  2. 'A fantastic point'published at 22:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    West Ham 1-1 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter told Match of the Day: "There's a really good spirit in the team and the club, we will fight until the end. We were down to 10 but still scored and the performance deserved that.

"It's a fantastic point. The trick is to turn possession into goal chances and it's not easy to do against West Ham as Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice defend the box very well.

"You have no divine right to win matches, you have to earn them. But we're picking up points and you have to keep going on. We want to win and will try again on Saturday."

  5. 'One of my best goals'published at 22:35 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    West Ham 1-1 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goalscorer Neal Maupay told BBC Sport: "On Saturday I was the worst the striker in the Premier League now I'm not.

"I don't pay attention (to criticism) anymore. It's football and some football fans criticise if you are Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo and I'm only Neal Maupay.

"I'm just trying to work as hard as I can for the team and as long as the club is happy that's good. I think it must be one of my best goals so far. I saw the ball, pinned the defender, the ball was high and I tried something and it worked out quite well.

"The Premier League is tough and I love this team - we do not stop fighting that's why we have got some wins. Three points is different but we're quite happy with the result.

"They scored an early goal and this season they are doing really well. We were one man down so we had a very good result."

  6. 'One of our best starts'published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Southampton 2-2 Leicetser

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was brilliant what we did in the first half. Very active, good ball wins, good transition, two goals. It was one of our best first halves of the season at home.

"The opponent had two big chances to kill us. Both teams were going to win it. Normally this is a chance he [Jamie Vardy] doesn't miss. I think we deserve the point today.

"At home we are better than last season. It looks like we have made another step forward. The next top team is coming here this weekend - for me Brighton is one of the best teams in the league - but we will put the same effort on the pitch."

  7. 'Top three are going to race away'published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Scott Minto
Former Chelsea and West Ham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The gap is big enough already between the top three and the rest - there are seven points from fourth to third. Those three are going to race away.

The stats suggest that Watford were the better side or had more chances - these are the types of games that champions win. Champions win the games they are not playing well as well as the games where they are dominant.

  8. 'We knew it could be emotional'published at 22:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, speaking to Amazon: "The message from the manager was that they will play physically strong and go 100% for every ball we just had to play our game and try to create chances, which we did.

"I expected him [Seamus Coleman] to do a mistake which he did. The game was tough at 2-1 but at 3-1 it becomes much better."

Target for goals? "Hopefully many more. My first target is to win something at the club, league, Champions League hopefully both."

On Virgil van Dijk and his return to where he got injured last season: "It is great to see him back and especially here. We knew before the game it could be emotional because he got injured before. He is our captain."

  10. 'You wouldn't want to know what was said at half-time'published at 22:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Southampton 2-2 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers speaking to Amazon Prime: "The way we played in the first half - we were really poor. Then we should win the game in the second half.

"I'm just disappointed with the first half, it was so poor. You give Southampton the momentum. Second half was better."

On what he said to his team at half-time: "You wouldn't want to know. Every now and then you have to be angry. You have to be direct and it was easy because we were nowhere near the level. You have to earn the right to play football and we didn't do that. Everything was too easy. What we do have is an amazing resilience. We never unravel in a game. Sometimes we are beaten by a better team but we don't unravel. We give a reaction.

"Second half we showed a better mentality in the game. It was tough to come here but we have to be better for ourselves. We didn't give ourselves a chance with that start but we got back into it.

"It means we have to score too any goals to win games. You have to give yourself a foothold in the game. Away from home you have to be strong and we lacked concentration.

On James Maddison: "At the moment, yes [he is in form]. You have to be consistent. It was an outstanding goal. He looks a threat but everyone then around him has to want the ball. He's producing."

On aims for the season: "If we can get to European football that will be another amazing season. For clubs like ourselves its very difficult but its a long season and we're coping with European football too. Our challenge and objective is can we finish in Europe - and can we nick a trophy along the way?"

  11. 'We were lucky. We should admit it'published at 22:26 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Watford 1-2 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to BBC Sport: "We were lucky. We should admit it. Sometimes you need it. Today we could not reach this level. We were not ready for this game. We are to blame. We never found the right attitude. It was a big exception from the rule. We never found the minutes. It got a bit better in the second half. We conceded a lot of chances in first half and did not create much. The two situations we had, we scored. We were very lucky to escape with the win.

"Maybe I didn’t find the right approach. It felt like we were not ready for the long balls, the pressure. When we won the ball, how to escape out of the pressure. We had big problems individually and as a team. We never felt solid. It felt like we were never in control.

“The second half was a bit better. We showed the mentality to do what is necessary. I don’t want to be too harsh but I want to admit Watford played strong.

"We need a lot of points if we want to stay in title race. We felt like we lost two points against Burnley and Manchester United. We stole minimum two, maybe three back today. It feels like today we showed when we scored some quality. Overall we can do much better. There are some reasons - we have injured players and some key players due to overload were not on the pitch. I don’t want to be too critical. Watford deserved more."

On Reece James’ injury: "I cannot say today. Yesterday he was in too much pain to travel. He got a kick on the ankle.”

  12. 'The bigger the challenge, the bigger the wins'published at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

FT: Aston Villa 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City defender Ruben Dias, speaking to Amazon Prime: "Very important win today way against a team that are on fire under a new manager. Very important to get the three points. Everyone fight a lot and we are very happy.

"Bernardo [Silva] gave us a little bit of extra confidence into the second half. We have to give them credit for a good goal that changed the game. With the crowd they tried to make things different but our team was always there and in control of the game.

"That is what our team is made of. To come here and perform how we did today is a demonstration of how we work, no exceptions. The bigger the challenge the bigger the wins. We love that. It is what we are here for."

  13. 'There is not a better player in world football than Salah'published at 22:20 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Scott Minto
Former Chelsea and West Ham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

At this moment in time and over this season so far there is not a better player in world football than Mohamed Salah.

People make mistakes, half mistakes and he turns them into goals, he assists, he takes the pressure off the defence.

He's just the perfect guy who's got absolutely everything. He is incredible.

  14. 'We do not want to get rid of goals'published at 22:20 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    West Ham 1-1 Brighton

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes told Match of the Day: "We were disappointed [with the late goal] but probably a draw was a fair result. Brighton played well but we did half miss some opportunities on a night when the decisions didn't go for us.

"We gave the ball away regularly which is not what we are used to. All credit to Brighton, we didn't take our opportunities to go two ahead."

On the goal that was disallowed as Michail Antonio was judged offside following a lengthy VAR review, Moyes said: "It does not touch Michail. VAR is really good and the refereeing has been really good but we do not want to get rid of goals.

"I feel it comes off Duffy to go into the net. To rule it out and to choose to not give the goal, we're in the business to score goals, that's what people come to games for."

  15. 'We were not ready... we stole three points'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Watford 1-2 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to Amazon: "That’s not us. We were absolutely not ready today for this match. I missed maybe to find the right approach to make my team ready. We had the break due to very sad circumstances – hopefully the person is better. Even this break after the first 11 minutes did not change our approach. We did not cope with the pressure, with the first ball, second ball.

“We had a lot of changes but too many faults. It did not get better. The only thing we could do was hang in there and focus on the easy things. It was a lucky win.

"I see this totally as an exception from the rule. I will not insist too long on this match because it’s so unusual for us to play like this. The next game on Saturday, the most worried I am is about the injury for Trevoh Chalobah. The doctor was on the pitch 20 times today it felt like. It’s a big loss from Trev. I’m a bit worried.

"Havertz was very strong today. I felt he was the one player reaching his level today. We missed some players. We had some players overloaded. We stole three points. We don’t have to talk around it. For the first time it feels like a lucky win."

  16. 'We have incredible resilience'published at 22:14 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Southampton 2-2 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The first half wasn't acceptable from our perspective.

"We took too long to get going in the game. We lacked concentration, we made a change at half time and changed the attitude and mentality of the team. Second half was a different game for us.

"At the end of the game we had the clear chances to win the game but it's a disappointment the first half.

"We have an incredible resilience when we fall behind - we found a way to come back. The mentality and attitude was totally different in the second half.

"They're all big games. This was always going to be tough against Southampton. We will take the point, move forward and it's another big game at the weekend."

Loud chants of "Sack The Board" from Everton fans. They certainly deserve great scrutiny and they cannot use Rafael Benitez as a human shield. Some fairly fruity words aimed at chairman Bill Kenwright and director of football Marcel Brands.

    FT: Everton 1-4 Liverpool

    Alan Hutton
Former Scotland defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Everton had an opportunity to get back into the game but they couldn't really do anything after that - the sheer quality of Liverpool shone through and it was always going to be an uphill battle for Everton on the night.
