    Southampton 0-0 Leicester

Southampton have a free-kick on the left but James Ward-Prowse plays it short instead and the Saints work it to the right. Just as I think what a waste of a chance, a cross comes in and Che Adams has a header saved.

  2. Postpublished at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Wolves 0-0 Burnley

After venturing out onto the snow covered Turf Moor at the weekend with just a shirt on Sean Dyche has his big coat on today.

Looks a fairly mild evening at Wolves, though, as the home side do all the early attacking.

    • So far in 2021, Southampton have lost six of their seven midweek Premier League games. They have conceded 25 goals in the seven games, including a 9-0 loss at Manchester United in February.
    • Leicester City have both scored and conceded in their last 13 Premier League away games – only Blackburn have had a longer such run (14 between May 2011 and February 2012).
    • Southampton’s home games have seen fewer goals scored than any other side in the Premier League this season (nine), with Saints scoring five and conceding four in their six fixtures at St Mary’s so far.
  7. Postpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

There's a serious lights show going on at the London Stadium. The fans on the far side are certainly going to be grateful for those huge flame throwers.

  8. Lawro's predictionpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Southampton v Leicester (19:30 GMT)

    Lawro's predictionImage source, BBC Sport

    Lawro's prediction: 1-2

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl got it wrong with his team selection against Liverpool and he might decide to be less attack-minded against Leicester, who seem to have got their spark back.

The Foxes have been up and down all season but James Maddison is playing well at the moment, and Jamie Vardy is back among the goals too so I fancy them to get another win here.

    Ben's prediction: 1-1

There won't be much in this one either way, so I am going to be boring and sit on the fence.

Find out how Lawro and Ben think the rest of the week's fixtures will go

    • Southampton have had a player sent off in each of their past three home league games against Leicester - Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in 2018-19, Ryan Bertrand in 2019-20 and Jannik Vestergaard last season.
    • After winning just three of their first 38 away league games against Southampton (D14 L21), Leicester have now won on three of their past four visits to St Mary’s (D1) while netting 16 goals in the process.
    • Under Ralph Hasenhuttl, Southampton have conceded an average of 2.8 goals per game against Leicester in the Premier League (14 in five games). Only against Manchester United (3.2) have they conceded more per game in the competition since the Austrian took charge.

Or maybe six other similar things that happened on that October night back in 2019.

No way it can happen again, can it? Or maybe it's time for Saints to exact some revenge for that 9-0 humiliation?

  11. 'I didn't think Chalobah would be a Premier League player let alone a Chelsea player'published at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Watford v Chelsea (19:30 GMT)

    Scott Minto
Former Chelsea and West Ham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I remember watching Trevoh Chalobah when he was off on loan at Ipswich and various other clubs and I didn't think he'd be a Premier League player let alone a Chelsea player. For him to step up in the way he has done and see how much it means when he has played well and scored is nothing short of sensational so a huge pat on the back for him.

I think this is a great opportunity for players who don't normally play to come in but it's also a great chance for Watford players to say 'if we are going to have a chance of beating Chelsea this is arguably our best chance' - with them having only half of their regular team members.

    • After winning seven consecutive top-flight games against Burnley between 1974 and 2018, Wolves are winless in their last five Premier League games against the Clarets (drawn two, lost three).
    • Burnley did the league double over Wolves last season – they’ve not won more consecutively against them in the league since a run of four straight victories between 1912 and 1931.

    Wolves v Burnley (19:30 GMT)

Wolves v Burnley formImage source, BBC Sport
    • Burnley have won four of their past five Premier League away games played on Wednesdays. The Clarets had lost their first three such games in the competition.
    • Wolves have won their past three home league games, last winning four in a row in the top flight at Molineux in 1975.
    • Sean Dyche's side are without an away win in the Premier League this season (drawn three, lost three), with no side picking up fewer points on the road than the Clarets.
    • Meanwhile, Burnley have only won four of their past 27 Premier League matches, although one of those wins was 4-0 at Wolves in April - their biggest top-flight away victory since 1965.
  14. Lawro's predictionpublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Wolves v Burnley (19:30 GMT)

    Lawro's predictionImage source, BBC Sport

    Lawro's prediction: 1-0

Wolves are still in decent form but Burnley are on a four-game unbeaten run and had the weekend off because of the snow.

This feels like it will be a close game, and there won't be many goals in it.

    Ben's prediction: 1-0

Wolves are quietly flying. I looked at the table and thought 'how are they sixth?' But they are just playing great and getting on with it.

I did a MOTD community feature at Burnley and met Sean Dyche, who was so kind to everyone there. I would not want to get on the wrong side of him, but I would also never want to disappoint him because he was such a good bloke.

  15. 'Everton need to rise to the occasion'published at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Everton v Liverpool (20:15 GMT)

    Kevin Campbell
Former Everton and Arsenal striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Liverpool have been awesome this season and look like one of the best teams in the world right now and Everton have been struggling. But, when you're at home it's an opportunity to get the fans back on side and it's the local derby.

The form guide goes out of the window - even though Everton have been struggling for form so they are the ones who need to rise to the occasion.

  16. Groundhog Day for Albion fans - and boos reflect thatpublished at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

West Ham v Brighton (19:30 GMT)

    Scott McCarthy
    We Are Brighton

The booing which greeted the full time whistle of Brighton's goalless draw against Leeds appears to have caused quite a stir.

The majority of Albion fans at the Amex did not agree, supporters of other clubs were surprised that a team surpassing expectations to sit eighth in the Premier League could be booed off and Graham Potter described himself as perplexed by it.

To understand why it happened though is to realise the utter frustration Brighton fans have gone through for 18 months. Four transfer windows have passed in which the club have not done the one thing the world and his wife knows they need to do: sign a striker.

The result is something akin to Groundhog Day. Phil Connors used to wake up every day and have to tell the weather in Pennsylvania. Brighton supporters go to every match and know the team will dominate and yet fail to win because nobody is capable of taking the countless opportunities created.

Brighton fans have become so frustrated and that manifested in a smattering of boos.

Those boos were not directed at the players. Brighton were excellent against Leeds, bar sticking the ball in the back of the net.

They were not directed at the manager either. They were for the lack of recruitment of a new centre-forward, the missing piece in the jigsaw that would turn the Albion from still treading water five years into their Premier League adventure to being capable of finishing in the top 10 with one eye on Europe.

Nobody could blame Tony Bloom for not wanting to pay the £30m it would take to buy a new striker, not to mention the probable smashing of the club's wage structure that would come with it.

It is what is necessary though to end the Groundhog Day currently enveloping the Albion. The boos - unnecessary as they were - simply reflect that fact.

  17. Head-to-headpublished at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

West Ham v Brighton (19:30 GMT)

West Ham v BrightonImage source, BBC Sport
    • Each of the last five Premier League meetings between West Ham and Brighton have finished level. Only two fixtures in the competition’s history have had longer runs of consecutive draws – Aston Villa vs West Ham (7 between 1998 and 2001) and Birmingham vs Liverpool (7 between 2005 and 2010).
    • Brighton have never lost in eight Premier League meetings with West Ham (won three, drawn five), the most a side has faced the Hammers without defeat in the competition.
    • Brighton have scored 25 goals in their 24 Premier League games away against London sides, with 40% of these coming in their four visits to West Ham (10/25).
  18. 'Can Everton deliver?'published at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2021

    Everton v Liverpool (20:15 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Goodison Park

Optimism is in almost non-existent supply among Everton fans around Goodison Park tonight. To say they fear the worst against Liverpool is a masterpiece of understatement.

Plenty of defiant headlines in the match prpgramme, though. Manager Rafa Benitez says “One win can change the picture.” Lucas Digne says “We Need To Believe” while Richarlison’s message is “We Must Stay United And Be Strong.”

Can Everton actually deliver on those words.
