Watford boss Claudio Ranieri to BBC Sport: "It was unbelievable. We lost the chance to get a second goal. In the end I have to say the winners they deserved to win the game. We were too nervous tonight, I don't know why. We made three mistakes on the penalty, it's unbelievable. Sometimes we need to be more calm and understand the situation better.

"I don't know why in the second half we went too deep and had no threat. We make so many mistakes on the pass. That's football, that's the Premier League, you always have to focus 100%, and you have to be strong and ready for the battle.

"That match was important and now others are very important. I want to understand why we were so nervous in the second half. I will speak with my players tomorrow morning. I know why we have lost but also my players must understand."

Khan Karn: It was a silly foul but the Brentford player was already on the way down and put his leg on Troost-Ekong's. I don't think that should be a penalty. Feel bad for Ranieri.

Watford boss Claudio Ranieri, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is unbelievable because we were winning and had a chance to score a second and finish the match. But Brentford pushed a lot. We made three mistakes for the penalty. It is unbelievable. Two times we didn't clear the ball and then we made the penalty. But Brentford deserved to win. Well done to them.

"There was a lot of space for us to do things. We have to learn. But I wanted some points. We needed the second goal.

"It is a missed opportunity. We knew it was an important game. The Brentford team were ready for the battle and some of my players weren't. Some were, yes. Some, not. Every situation is a fight and we have to be smarter.

"We played better against big teams, today we were a little nervous and made so many mistakes. We passed the ball badly and I don't understand why."

Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank to BBC Sport: "It's crazy. This is what football is all about, these are the moments we are working so hard to try and achieve.

"The game against Leeds was cruel, conceding last minute and now we're scoring last minute. We have quite a lot of injuries, we are playing players out of position, and we go in there and we just attack. We didn't settle for a draw. Unbelievable mentality from the team.

"Mbuemo deserves a lot of praise. I think he was unplayable today. I've said before I have the world's best penalty taker in Ivan Toney and now maybe I have number two as well.

"All the game not everything was beautiful but we kept trying to play. In general we are giving away a set-piece and one transition chance against a team that has been one of the best offensive teams. They kept patience, fantastic.

"It's an unbelievable performance and getting three points with the injuries and Covid cases, we equalise in the 87th minute and still go for the win, that's crazy."

Pontus Jansson ended a run of 93 games without a goal in all competitions, netting for the first time since February 2019 for Leeds against Swansea City in the Championship.

Brentford

Brentford's first goalscorer Pontus Jansson to Sky Sports: "It's not a good performance but we fought hard, we didn't give away a lot of chances so maybe a draw was a fair result, but we've been unlucky in the season and maybe luck was with us tonight."

On scoring his first goal for Brentford, three years after arriving from Leeds: "Finally a goal, eh? It was an important goal. It's been three years and I've saved it for an important moment. It's tough with VAR to celebrate.

"We turned it around by believing, we were disappointed with the first half and second half we were on it from minute one.

"We said from the start we wanted to aim as high as possible and if you're saying now we're top half then that's a good start."

Brentford fans have experienced both sides of the coin this week.

An injury-time goal for Leeds denied the Bees a win at Elland Road, leaving them feeling like they had suffered a defeat rather than earned a draw.

Then, five days later, those feelings of despair have been swept away by delight. This time, it is they who have benefitted from a last-gasp goal.

Brentford

Brentford matchwinner Bryan Mbeumo on earning a much-needed victory: "It feels so good because we worked hard. It wasn't the best performance but it was important to win. It feels so good.

On how he felt as he prepared to take the penalty: "I kept my head empty and tried to use power."

On the importance of Brentford picking up points at home: "It's been a long time since we won here, it is great for the fans and we need to keep the momentum for Tuesday."

As honest as ever, Pontus Jansson concedes that a draw would "probably have been the fairest result".

Watford were in control but backed off and weren't positive. That's a massive error here because you know they will become stronger. The two set-pieces have won them the game but they were just positive.

Some of the bearhugs and high-fiving between the Brentford contingent would leave bruises on the rest of us. The raw emotion of what this win means is clear.
