Wolves

Wolves boss Bruno Lage to BT Sport: "Every time I come with that will to win games and our plan was right. What we did in first 45 minutes was our plan and we tried to control their game.

"I don't want to talk about the second half, I want to talk about the first half against a top team and top manager. When it was 11 v 11 we were there. It is zero points but I'm very proud of the players because they did everything I asked for.

On the penalty decision: "No penalty for me. That's why it is very strange, the referee decision and the VAR decision.

"I protect VAR every time, it is very good for modern football. He put his arm out but where did it touch? Come on.

On Jimenez's red card: "He knows he cannot do that. I went into the dressing room and saw his face.

"But the first yellow, he didn't touch the man and we have ten men behind the ball. So it is a very hard decision and cost us a lot.

"We started the season like this. With that goal against Man Utd and a penalty against Tottenham. Little things.

"I don't want to talk about referees and VAR, but we need to go in the right direction because football is a beautiful game.

"We feel if we had 11v 11 we could do more. We move on."

Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BT Sport: “We were much better with 11 players and with 10 from Wolves. It is so difficult against a team who defend the way they defend.”

“I didn’t see [the penalty]. I saw it on the field but I didn’t see it now on TV.”

On Raheem Sterling's 100th Premier League goal: “Congratulations. It’s a lot of goals.”

On goalkeeper Ederson: “The great keepers, they don’t always have many saves to do, but what they have to do, they do.”

Here comes Steven Gerrard. He receives a huge applause from the Liverpool fans and a standing ovation from the Kop.

But the fans quickly make it clear where their allegiance lies. Within seconds of Gerrard's entrance, there's a chant of "Liverpoooool".

It was always going to be tough for Leeds. To finish 17th would be a good season. A lot of Leeds fans would be disappointed in that because of where they finished last season, but their squad isn’t big enough. They have to invest in January.

Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Raheem Sterling to BBC Sport: “As soon as I saw the referee point to the spot, I picked my place and went with it. It was really nice to see it go in. Once I’ve got a decision I stick with it and it’s just about the execution.

“Wolves have always been a tough ask, even with ten men. Their spirit is really good and we always find it difficult. You have these games at certain times of the season and it’s just about sticking with it. Sometimes you have to dig deep, that’s how you build championships.”

On Ederson's late save: “It’s easy for him to switch off because he hasn’t had much to do, but he’s stayed switched on and got us the three points.”

It's getting LOUD at Anfield.

Paul: Who as a Liverpool fan wouldn’t want Steve Gerard to be successful as a manager. He’s fantastic and incredibly complete as a player for Liverpool and for sure he’ll do well as a manager but not when he faces Liverpool in the opposition dugout.

He’s had an incredible start. You’ve got to give credit to Steven Gerrard with what he’s achieved in his short managerial career. He comes into the Premier League, the toughest in the world, and the challenge now is to propel Aston Villa up that league, challenging for European places.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp joked at the start of his press conference that he wouldn't talk about Steven Gerrard.

But he did - and he said nice things.

"He will come here and want to win the football game. Before [the game], nice shake hands, after, nice shake hands - in between we will go full throttle and he will go full throttle.

"It's not easy for a world class player to become an outstanding manager but it's possible. It looks absolutely like Stevie has all the skills you need and I'm really happy for him."

I don't like to say 'same old Arsenal' because it's a phrase I've used a lot in recent seasons but, at the moment, it feels like we've seen this before from the Gunners.

It must be very frustrating for their manager, Mikel Arteta.

After making such a bad start to the season they had started to look like they knew what they were doing, but then all of a sudden you chuck in a couple of poor displays and they are almost back to square one.

Despite all of that, Arsenal are at home, where their record is a lot better, and I still think they will beat Southampton, who should have beaten Brighton easily last week but would probably take a draw here, if they can get one.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a player who is definitely not in form and you can see why Eddie Nketiah is coming on ahead of him. He looks more lively and looks more interested in the game. You can see Mikel Arteta trusts Nketiah more, which isn’t a good sign for a captain.

Manchester City

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson: “I’m very happy for the victory and the performance of the team.

“We were unlucky not to score [before the red card]. In the second half we were lacking a bit of aggression. The opponents were really strong – we need to learn from this for future occasions.

“They were a great team, defending with five. It was hard to penetrate. They were pressing us a lot, but I’m very happy with the three points and the performance of the team.”

On Raheem Sterling's 100th Premier League goal: “I’m very happy for him. It was a great goal. He’s reaching his best performance for us. He’s progressing very well and I hope he’ll continue to be important for us.”

I think Steven Gerrard is cold. I think he wouldn't care if he went and beat Liverpool whether it's as a manager, as a player, he just wants to win the game.

If you're managing the club, you just want to win, no matter who it is. You want to win football matches.

Rezaa: Big ups to Arteta for dropping Aubamayeng. No player is bigger than the club. His poor form means we won't miss him either.

Arsenal

This isn't the first time Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been taken out of Mikel Arteta's squad for disciplinary reasons.

In March he was dropped ahead of a North London derby with Tottenham for a "breach of pre-match protocol".

Back then, Arsenal boss Arteta told Sky Sports: "He was going to start the game, we had a disciplinary issue, we have drawn the line and we move on."
