You miss the protection when Kante is not playing. He does so much running, he is all over the place – it makes life so much easier for the defenders.

I spent a season with him and his work rate is phenomenal. He never gets tired. He gives so much more value to a whole team. It was a pleasure to play with him.

Talking defensively, you want to play with Kante, definitely. The balls he intercepts, the way he makes it predictable for the defence is second to none.

  5. 'How will it stop?'published at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

    Wolves v Chelsea (14:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel asked about getting today's game postponed: "It is exactly like this, we thought we had a strong case regarding the security and health of players, we have seven positive cases, we were made to be in the bus and travel together for three hours, were in meeting together, in dinner and lunch and the situation does not feel like it will stop if we keep on doing this. We applied to not play and put the situation under control and it was rejected. It is very hard to understand it, we are very concerned about the health of the players. We end up with players who play coming from injuries and we take the risk.

"I am worried from a medical point of view, we have had four days of consecutive positive tests. How will it stop if we are in a bus together and in meetings together if we pretend it is not happening?

"We are disappointed, we are a bit angry."

  6. Champions League is Man City's holy grailpublished at 13:06 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2021

Newcastle v Man City (14:00 GMT)

    Shaka Hislop
Former Newcastle & West Ham goalkeeper on BBC 5 Live

Right now [in the Premier League race] you want to be in Manchester City’s shoes.

The great test for City will be in the second half of the season. Their holy grail is the Champions League, so how do they manage these two competition?

For Liverpool, it is all about the league. They can be a bit more laser focused. I don’t say that to suggest that they are not going to take the Champions League as seriously, but for City it is all about the Champions League. Maybe that will be their undoing. But right now, you’d want to be in City’s shoes.
