    Brighton 2-0 Brentford

Adam Lallana hits a first-time effort well over as the home fans appeal for a penalty after Danny Welbeck went down inside the box. Half-hearted calls at best, though.

Twenty minutes remaining in what has been a lively encounter with both sides going for it.

A short free-kick routine by Brentford on the edge of the box comes to nothing and it is an opportunity wasted.

That is fantastic defending. That was really brave from Marc Cucurella because he had Dan Burn to jump over as well!

If they are to get something from this game you feel now is the time they need to be getting a goal back.

This game is far from over but it should be. Brighton have been so dominant up until now - if it was 3-0 I think it would be done but at 2-0 Brentford think they can get something out of this.

They look dangerous between Ivan Toney and Yoane Wissa. Brighton do really need that third goal to kill this game off.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 61 mins

    Brighton 2-0 Brentford

And an even better save from Robert Sahnchez as he dives at full stretch to keep out a goal bound header from Ethan Pinnock.

Two huge saves by the Brighton keeper.

Brighton are a difficult side to play against, they're so well coached and you have to give credit to Graham Potter.

They've got some really good players who are happy to just dictate the pace of the game. Then you've got those runners in behind as well - Brighton are not sticking at 2-0 they are trying to find that third goal.

Good defending by Pontus Jansson to deal with a dangerous ball into the box. Brighton have a corner but Brentford clear.

    Brighton 2-0 Brentford

Brighton have their first attack of this half as Marc Cucurella gets down the left before playing a low ball into the box for Neal Maupay, who takes a touch but then fires wide of the upright.

An early goal back in this second half would certainly add a bit of spice.

Brentford are attacking but Brighton are coping well at the moment.

Brighton have been superb, 2-0 doesn't flatter them. It probably flatters Brentford more.

The way they have played without the ball, they swarm Brentford and give them no time at all. With the ball they have been absolutely quality with good balls coming into the box. You won't see two better goals in a game, although we have seen quite a few today.

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Brighton 2-0 Brentford

Brighton haven't scored two goals in the first half of a Premier League game since their first home game of the season, when they beat Watford 2-0.

They are looking good to record another win here.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 44 mins

    Brighton 2-0 Brentford

Christian Norgaard is booked as he attempts to pull back Alexis Mac Allister, who makes a bit of a meal of it but there's no doubt it is a free kick.

Leandro Trossard's attempt for a third before the break is straight at the keeper.

Brilliant football from Brighton at the moment. They are a great side to watch they are full of confidence.

  19. 'That may have put the game to bed'published at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Brighton 2-0 Brentford

    Scott Minto
Former Chelsea and West Ham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

2-0 pretty much sums up the first half, 1-0 wouldn't be enough. I think that may have put the game to bed but we'll have to see how Brentford react to that.

Brighton have been superb with and without the ball in the last 20 minutes. The ball just falls to Neal Maupay 20 yards out, he takes the first touch and almost side foots it with the pace of a really good strike. Top corner, my goodness me. Alvaro Fernandez has no chance, no keeper in the world is stopping that. We've seen two fantastic goals.

GOAL - Brighton 2-0 Brentfordpublished at 42 mins

    Neal Maupay

    Brighton have a second!

And what a goal it is too as Neal Maupay receives the ball from Jakub Moder just outside the area and he thumps a brilliant strike that has a bit of curl into the top corner.

Incredible noise from the home fans as they sense a long overdue win could well be on the cards.
