  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 63 mins

    Aston Villa 1-2 Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku is brought down by Tyrone Mings as he turns on the edge of the area and Chelsea have a free kick in a decent position.

Mings, despite trying to hope the referee forgets about him as he walks away, is booked. He will miss Villa's next game as a result.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    Aston Villa 1-2 Chelsea

A third change for Chelsea as N'Golo Kante is replaced by Mateo Kovacic,

Just after the hour mark so no doubt a planned change as both players work their way back to full fitness.

  3. Postpublished at 59 mins

Danny Ings can't get enough direction on his glancing header as Aston Villa try to respond.

The game is wide open now. Very entertaining.

Lewis Chapman Performance Analyst: You see Mr Tuchel, that's what happens when a proper centre forward is on the pitch, crosses actually start to make sense

Jon Evans: That's so poor from Mings. Like he couldn't be bothered.

  7. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 1-2 Chelseapublished at 56 mins

    Romelu Lukaku

It had to be Romelu Lukaku!

He's only been on the pitch 11 minutes but the substitute is on the scoresheet with a superb glancing header from a fine cross by Callum Hudson-Odoi.

He's now scored in seven Premier League games in a row against Aston Villa and that was his first league goal since scoring against, you've guessed it, Aston Villa.

  8. CLOSE!published at 54 mins

    Aston Villa 1-1 Chelsea

Ooooh, Aston Villa survive a scare as a cross just whizzes past Romelu Lukaku's head and then bounces off Matty Cash at the far post towards his own goal. Could go anywhere but fortunately it is close enough to Emi Martinez.

    All Chelsea at the moment.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 52 mins

    Aston Villa 1-1 Chelsea

Chelsea are forced into a change as Thiago Silva is struggling with an issue. He is replaced by Andreas Christensen.

  10. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Aston Villa 1-1 Chelsea

Chelsea have made a decent start to this half, passing the ball around quickly and accurately. A nice move sees Mason Mount flick the ball to Christian Pulisic wide right but eventually the Blues are forced backwards.

  11. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Aston Villa 1-1 Chelsea

Almost an immediate impact by Romelu Lukaku as he rises to meet Antonio Rudiger's delivery, Emi Martinez gets there first but also clatters into Tyrone Mings in the process.

  12. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Aston Villa 1-1 Chelsea

Chelsea make a change for the start of the second half as Romelu Lukaku comes on for Trevoh Chalobah.

Lukaku has scored in each of his last six Premier League appearances against Villa.

  14. 'We lacked energy'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: West Ham 2-3 Southampton

    West Ham United

David Moyes speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Wasn't our day we had an off day. Started very flat and we got better but it wasn't good enough in the end. The opportunities at the start that we gave Southampton really cost us later on."

On Michail Antonio scoring: "We had to try something at half time, we had been really poor in the first half, maybe as poor as we've ever been this season. We lacked energy which is not normally the case for us. We looked better after that and deservedly got back in the game.

"You have periods you have to find a way of getting out of and we have to do that now and get back to winning ways. We have been pretty consistent in our form over the last 18 months to two years so let's hope we can get back to that.

"We'd like to do some business but it doesn't always work that way, we have some ideas in our head but there's no guarantee we can make that happen - but we will try."

    West Ham 2-3 Southampton

    Mike Williams
Final Score reporter at London Stadium

I've spoken to Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl who is understandably delighted with the result at West Ham.

It’s their second away win of the season and first victory in east London for five years.

Afterwards the Austrian joined hands with his players and coaching staff in a long line and celebrated in front of the jubilant travelling fans.

Hasenhttl said the performance was even more satisfying considering the late Covid withdrawals his squad have had to cope with (Jack Stephens, Nathan Tella, Lyanco all returning positive tests over Christmas).

In a slight dig to the congested festive fixture list he now says Southampton must “perform a miracle” by preparing for their next match at home to Tottenham in less than 48 hours.

  16. 'A deserved win'published at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: West Ham 2-3 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: A very good start with a fantastic goal, showed some good football then were nervous about keeping the lead and gave it away two times. But we had the right answers to come back for what is a big win for us.

Very often the problem is that when once they score they come with the atmosphere with the crowd, but we had a good answer today all the time. They were pushing but we scored and that was a good moment.

We never stopped working, they are a good side but in the end it was a deserved win for us. We had to stay calm and patient, the way we defended overall was absolutely perfect today and was the only way for us to get something today.

There were a few mistakes, maybe not brave enough playing football but when you are in the position we have been in it is not easy to stay calm. We have done it better in the past and have to do it better in the future.

  17. 'We didn't deserve to lose'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: West Ham 2-3 Southampton

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We probably didn't deserve to lose in the end."

On the penalty: "It looked as though the initial contact was outside the box but I don't know. Who knows with VAR these days, nobody seems to know."

On current injuries in the squad: "Injuries are part and parcel of football and in a busy period it's more likely you've got some. We've got some players who are getting an opportunity in Europe who are doing well. We didn't play well today but we have played well in other games."

On Michail Antonio's goal: "Michail needed to get that goal but also we needed to get that goal, he's a team player and we see him as part of the team and we want him to keep scoring but more importantly we want to get back to winning."

On Declan Rice: "Really good - very good player, excellent young player who is developing incredibly well."

How will you prepare for the next game? "Recover - get ready for it. That's all you can do, that's the programme and we will do our best to get ready for the game."

  18. 'Anything can happen'published at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Man City 6-3 Leicester

City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: Boxing Day game, typical from England but we made a really good first half but they made chances. We spoke at half time and it was an open game, not under control and immediately they get two, then anything can happen. But in the end we could solve it, and we are happy for that.

The Premier League is tough, Leicester is a top team, with a lot of quality, top manager and anything can happen.

  19. 'I don’t think the scoreline reflected the first half'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Man City 6-3 Leicester

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: We were here to get a result, it was a strange one – at half-time we were 4-0 down, they have had nine shots at goal and we have had eight so it was a little bit strange as I don’t think the scoreline reflected the first half if I am being honest.

The penalty was never ever a penalty, the first one, it is such a poor decision. We have Paul Tierney sat in VAR and he is missing physical challenges in every game I see yet he deems that physical enough when they…the defender has dropped to the floor, he is playing the game, and the referees and officials have bought it. We were disappointed with that.

At half tine we have a huge challenge, we said to the players, can we win the second half and let’s see there the game can take us. And we have to show the type of team we are, a team that never unravels physically or mentally and at 4-0 that can be easy to do away to the champions, with the injuries we have and Covid. But the players stood up, made a game of it and got to 4-3.

Against Liverpool we contested the corners really strongly, today we did not get contacts on the ball and that made it difficult for us. We made adjustments but we should still do better.

I thought James Maddison was brilliant today, so good taking the ball and was a real threat. It is all down to himself, my job is to maximise what to get out of the players. We challenged him to demand more from his talent, and now his efficiency in the game is getting there. The difference is from being a top talent to being a top player, as a top talent you show potential but as a top player you are consistently doing it.

Re: James at 18:12. Totally agree, if you are going to play 3 "little guys" then you need bodies in midfield to pass through and support (a la Man City) but Chelsea can't play a back 4 with Alonso at LB because he will be even more exposed than usual!
