Marcos Alonso's cross is knocked behind by Matty Cash and Chelsea have the first corner of the game.

Mason Mount provides the delivery but Tyrone Mings powers a header away. He got so much distance on that clearing header it almost ended up in the Chelsea half.

  2. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea are yet to really get going but are seeing a bit more of the ball now after having to defend for the first few minutes.

Their game against Wolves last-time out wasn't an entertaining watch and they'll be hoping to provide more of an attacking threat that they did in that game - having managed just a solitary shot on target at Molineux.

    Aston Villa 0-0 Chelsea

Lovely move by Aston Villa with some quick one-touch passing through the middle. Emiliano Buendía tries to play in Danny Ings with a first-time ball but it just goes the wrong side of the forward.

A roar as the hosts fly down the flanks early on but Matt Targett's low cross is scooped up by Edouard Mendy. The home fans show their appreciation for a positive start with a ripple of applause.

We're under way at a noisy Aston Villa. No Steven Gerrard on the touchline for the hosts after he tested positive for Covid-19.

  6. 'We’re not getting the violins out'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Man City 6-3 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers to BBC Sport: "Clearly we didn’t make a great start. You expect to be up against it. The second goal was nowhere near a penalty. It's so frustrating.

"Paul Tierney, the VAR, has missed very physical challenges in the last few weeks but deems that a penalty. He [Laporte] has fallen over. Before you know it, we're 4-0 down in the opening 25 minutes.

"We had eight shots in the first half. It was pretty close in terms of statistics.

"At half-time we said to the players can we win the second half, can we get closer to them? The biggest factor was it was so important not to unravel physically and mentally. They’ve never done that. At 4-0 away, with everyone going against us, it could have been easy for the players to do that. But they didn’t. At 4-3 we’re disappointed with set-pieces. We had two big chances at 5-3. The second half was so encouraging. We’re not overly pleased at losing the game.

"The situation we’ve been in the last 10 days, we played Manchester City with one of the very few weeks they didn't have a midweek games. We play Liverpool on Tuesday, less than 48 hours. We’re not getting the violins out. You see what we’re missing. The players aren’t available. The players that are will give everything."

On not bringing Jamie Vardy on: "His hamstring, Wilfried Ndidi as well. We couldn’t really look to them. We couldn’t afford to risk that."

  7. 'Chelsea can put together a bit of a run'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

Aston Villa v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Villa will give it a good go, just as they did when they played Manchester City at Villa Park a few weeks ago, but, like City did, Chelsea should still find a way to win.

It has not been a great few weeks for Thomas Tuchel's side for various reasons - he clearly felt last week's game with Wolves should have been postponed - but I wouldn't be surprised if they put together a bit of a run now. Their game against Liverpool on 2 January is going to be very interesting.

    Prediction: 0-2

  8. 'We improved after slow start'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Tottenham 3-0 Crystal Palace

Spurs boss Antonio Conte speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "We started the game a bit slow but we created the chances to score. I think in the first 20 minutes we were a bit slow, but then improved the quality with the ball and the intensity, with good pressure and scored twice.

"Then for sure against 10 men it was easier but you must be focused. A clean sheet was very important, we could have scored more than three but there was a lot of very positive things. Now we have to recover and make the best decision for the starting 11. It will not be easy for us, but it is not easy for other teams."

  9. 'I won't blame Covid-19 or injuries'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-5 Arsenal

    Norwich City

Norwich boss Dean Smith, speaking to MOTD: "I have used a tennis terminology in the dressing room to describe our performance - it was littered with unforced errors.

"We gave two soft fouls away for two soft goals at the end. We cannot drop our standards from two games ago against Manchester United to today's showing.

"We got beat 3-0 at Spurs and 1-0 against Manchester United and I accept that because we played well in those games.

"We're not making the most of the big chances. I can stand here like every other manager and say we have had illnesses and injuries.

"But we have to be better than we were today.

"We have been beaten 5-0 at home and the coaching staff and I now have to try and lift the players. I'll have a debrief with them about this game and make sure we are ready for the next game."

  10. 'A very brave performance'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: West Ham 2-3 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl speaking to Sky Sports: "Huge win because our record here in the last five years is that we haven't taken a point here. We played well today - we never stopped believing and scored three fantastic goals. We had a bit of a push back but an excellent opening 15 minutes and we can't play that way for 90 minutes so it's normal but we played well.

"We have dropped points a lot in the league this season but we showed resilience and absolutely had the right answers for everything they put on the pitch. We showed tactically a very brave performance."

Are you surprised how well Armando Broja is getting on? "No - I know his qualities, he's quick and he's a threat with the ball. He's getting better and better and very happy for him to get the penalty because he could've scored.

"We know we have games coming up against an on-fire Tottenham, very tough for us, no time to prepare and we have to see who is fit after today but this is what we have to do if you want something from the Premier League. We will fight again."

How will you prepare for another game so soon? "Like all other teams we go home and analyse the game on the bus and think about the next squad, see who is fit, who has problem and try to find the right shape and right players for the next game."

  11. Postpublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

Aston Villa v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)

Great to see Bertrand Traore back in the Aston Villa squad after three months out with a thigh problem.

He got seven league goals and six assists last season, so will be a welcome boost to Villa's attacking options.

  12. 'Red card changed the game'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Tottenham 3-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace assistant manager Osian Roberts: “The two goals and the red card change the game. It is always a difficult place to come. We knew it would be difficult with 11 men on the pitch but it made it even more difficult after the red card.

“I haven’t seen them [Wilfried Zaha’s bookings] back to give an honest assessment but of course we were disappointed.

“We tried to be compact and get something on the break but unfortunately it was very difficult for us after that.”

  13. 'A nice game to watch'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Man City 6-3 Leicester

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to BBC Sport: "It was a Boxing Day game. It was a nice game to watch and three more points. We keep going. The quality of players we have produced this amount of actions to score goals. No manager and tactics can solve it without the quality.

"It was weird. Even at 4-0 in the first half, every time they had the ball they arrived in the final third delivering good passes. They moved a lot of players. They have a lot of quality. They are a master of counter-attacks.

"They changed in the second half. The way they played they didn’t play to press high. They were close. The game was so dangerous. We didn’t play bad in the second half. Ruben Dias was not aggressive because he was one yellow card away from being suspended so he was more cautious. The game was not over. With set-pieces we could win the game."

  14. 'Very difficult' to rotate Harry Kanepublished at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Tottenham 3-0 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte speaking to BBC Sport: "We started a bit slow but created chances to score. We improved the quality and the intensity and scored twice and for sure when we played against 10 men it was easier.

"We could have scored more but there were a lot of positive things. Now we have to recover and make the best decision around our starting 11 for Southampton. It won't be easy for us or other teams to play after two days."

On Harry Kane's form: "I always say we are talking about a top-class striker and a player that for us is very important. Today I had the possibility to give him a bit of rest and for him to play only 60 minutes for us was important. Kane is a player it is very difficult to decide to put in a rotation."

Ade Ojelabi: I am happy that Arsenal are winning games and scoring goals, It is a welcome improvement. No credit to Arteta until we are able to beat teams that are within +/- 3 of our current position.

  16. 'The unity we have is really pleasing'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: Norwich 0-5 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to MOTD: "It's a very satisfying result because in this festive period we have to keep performances to a high level.

"We looked really sharp and committed. It's a big win for us. I am really pleased. The amount of chances we create is pleasing.

"We go to every ground to try and impose our game. Today was a really good example. The unity we have around the club and with our fans is very pleasing."

On Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not playing: "He wasn't selected for today's match. We'll take it game by game. That was the decision."

On the short turnaround facing Wolves at 12:30 GMT on Tuesday: "We will try and recover as well as we can and try and win the game."

  17. 'It's about time'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    FT: West Ham 2-3 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton's goalscorer Mohamed Elyounoussi: "It's about time we won. We've been working really hard the past few weeks. In the second half West Ham took over a bit and they were the better team for about 20 minutes. Fraser [Forster] in goal was amazing today so credit to him and everyone."

On set-pieces: "It's part of the game. We work hard at it so it's great to see we succeed. We played a good game today with the ball as well, I think we can do that more. It's a tough game to come here and play West Ham in their home ground.

"We're not looking at the table at the moment, we just focus on training and the next game and the next game is in less than 48 hours so we need to just go home and recover."

  18. 'A lot of space for improvement'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2021

    Tottenham 3-0 Crystal Palace

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte: “It was three important points. We started a bit slow but then we got chances to score and we scored the first and second goals and to play against 10 men was easier for us.

“But sometimes despite this it happens against 10 men that I have lost in my career and the focus and attention of my players and attitude was good. It was a good performance. The most important thing now is to recover well because in two days we have a very difficult game against Southampton.

“There is a lot of space for improvement. To keep the clean sheet is always important but at the same time to score three goals was positive for our strikers. There were a lot of positive things after this game but in two days everything can change.

"I tried to give a rest to Harry [Kane] and Son [Heung-min], especially Harry because he plays every game but he is such an important player it is difficult to think about keeping him on the bench."

My brother and nephew went to Norwich game this afternoon, they and many others left early, just told me it's worst that they've played since he started going to Carrow Road, ie City were clueless, the Smith bubble has well and truly burst. Maybe new ownership wouldn't go a miss either.

Southampton have held on to a lead! I think I'm going to cry with joy. Ain't nobody beating me at Yahtzee at tonight's minimal family shindig ..

    FT: Norwich 0-5 Arsenal

    Norwich City

Norwich City's Kenny McLean: "That's the worst result we have had recently for sure against a good Arsenal team who didn't have to be good.

"We gave them everything. We need to show some character.

"We're not here to complain about injuries and Covid-19. Everyone has got those issues. We need to be doing more."
