A welcome sight for Manchester United fans as Edinson Cavani runs back onto the pitch. He's OK.

Concern for Manchester United at the moment as Edinson Cavani is down after taking a knock when challenging for the ball that came in for that Mason Greenwood chance. He is up but limps off the pitch to receive more treatment.

Emi Martinez needed that!

The Aston Villa races off his line to close down the gap and then block Mason Greenwood's goalbound shot.

Poor from Tyrone Mings as the slightest bit of pressure from Fred sees him panickily knock the ball out of play. Aston Villa are looking a bit nervous at times across the pitch so far.

Anthony Elanga heads into the sidenetting as Fred lofts the ball into the box. The home fans have quietened considerably after that early goal.

Now Aston Villa attack as Morgan Sanson bursts forward but Alex Telles tracks his run well and pinches the ball.

I was at Wigan last week and saw Blackburn keeper Aynsley Pears make some terrible mistakes in his side's FA Cup third round defeat.

That one from Martinez matches it. I think the Argentine was distracted by Edinson Cavani's run.

Awful. He needs to clear his head.

That's just reward for what has been a really positive start by Manchester United. Aston Villa have barely had the ball.

Lots of early pressure from Manchester United. They have certainly started with some real intent. Morgan Sanson clips Bruno Fernandes' ankle and the visitors have a free kick on the left side of the area.

Manchester United win the game's first corner with 90 seconds on the clock. Bruno Fernandes sends the ball in but debutant Lucas Digne heads behind. Fernandes tries again, Aston Villa clear again.

Garreth Hawkins: 17:04... Not a chance Everton are going down. They are in a rough patch but if you think they'll finish anywhere other than midtable (where this squad is good enough to finish) you're deluded

Everton

Everton manager Rafael Benitez: “It is really disappointing because we came here thinking about the win and it is a long journey for the fans who have come to support us. Everyone came here expecting us to win and we couldn’t.

We conceded two goals through our own mistakes and that makes it a mountain to climb for us. We have to stay professional, concentrate on the next training session and match.

“I am disappointed that we don’t learn and we keep making the same mistakes. Richarlison could not play the full 90 as he was coming back from injury. He only had one training session before this game.

“It is really disappointing because they are working so hard, We are doing lots of things that are good for the future, bringing in new players, but we need to be winning on the pitch.”

Manchester United get us up and running at a buoyant Villa Park.

Southampton

Speaking to Match of the Day, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "We tried everything today. I don’t know if the better team has won, but for sure, the luckier team. We had the very decisive moments in the game against us.

"We never stopped believing in what we were doing. From 2-0 down against this team it is difficult to come back but it's an unbelievable free-kick by Prowsey.

"In the moment, every time they [referees] check [the TV monitor] they definitely change their opinion. He did a good job today in a very difficult game. He let a lot of things run, he tried to keep the game going as this is what we love in the Premier League."

Kris Jefferson: Newcastle have lost 21 points from winning positions this season. If they’d lost none, they would be 6th. While they obviously have a quality issue, they have a much worse mentality issue

Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe speaking to 5 live: "Hugely disappointing, we were so close to the win we needed. In the first half we were on the front foot, created chances, scored the goal and went into protection mode too early.

"The goal was a killer blow for us, there were several things we could have done better in the build up.

"The crowd were excellent and fully committed, and they could see what the team was trying to give them. It was a great goal by Allain, my intention then was to put the game to bed. But we sat back too much, lost the intensity and Watford came into it. The longer we went on, the more anxious we got, we were desperate for the win.

"We should have seen the game out, and were so close to doing. I think it is mindset and confidence, not the tactical side or the players ability. When you are used to winning, it breeds confidence. Had we got over the line we would be saying what a great defensive performance. There is a lot more work to do."

Norwich City

Norwich striker Adam Idah, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Every footballer has to be patient and when your chance comes you have to take it. To get the goal today is magnificent and I am delighted. I don't think I had the best of touches but it worked out well for me. I delighted with the goal and the three points.

"We are all excited to get three points. Six losses is difficult to take and we are going to enjoy tonight. But there is lots more to do and we have a game next week against Watford. We need to work hard and get as many points as we can. We always have belief in ourselves. We are confident we can win games. Hopefully this is a start and the turning point."

Philippe Coutinho has been introduced to the Aston Villa crowd as kick off approaches and he gets a great reception.

There is a real buzz around Villa at the moment, a buzz that will only get bigger if they take three points this evening.
