Jon Dexter: Villa have Buendia marking Mina on corners... Yerry is 6'5", Buendia is 5'7". So obviously Buendia scores a header from a corner against us.

JohnnyC: Premier League need to get a grip with missiles being thrown at players. Section of ground should instantly be closed for the next game, regardless who the club is.

Fluurrgghh: This trend of the crowd throwing things that has crept in again recently needs to stop. The authorities need to step in and make any team whose supporters are doing it play behind closed doors. Needs stamping out urgently.

Kyle Utterson: Great end to the 1st half from Villa. Brilliant delivery and header. That's awful from the Everton fan who threw the bottle. Hopefully he is picked out and thrown out. We can do without that. Disgusting behaviour.

JavelBleach: What was the "provocative nature" that justified throwing a full bottle of juice at a player? They can celebrate how they like, wherever they like on the pitch! Club should be made to play next game in an empty stadium.

Sulaimon Adelekan: Everton fans have got to control their emotions. It's not over yet, there is still 45 minutes. Expecting the new manager bounce for the Toffees.

  9. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Everton 0-1 Aston Villa

Right, time to see if a Duncan Ferguson team talk does the business or whether Aston Villa can add to their lead.

The second half is under way.

    Andy Reid
Ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It just needs to be a lifetime ban for anybody caught doing it (throwing objects on to the pitch). It's dangerous.

If it's a coin you could cause real damage. Or a full bottle with a lid on it, which they are not supposed to have in there anyway, you could really hurt someone.

It has to be a lifetime ban for me for anybody doing that - not being allowed into any football ground ever again.

Professor Ndebele: Emiliano Buendia deserves the goal for a great 1st half performance. Everton looks directionless.

Don't think Villa are much worse without Grealish & don't think Man City are much better with him. Shades of Liverpool-Barcelona with Coutinho.

    HT: Everton 0-1 Aston Villa

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Goodison Park

Subdued atmosphere inside Goodison Park but the bottom line is Everton have not given their fans anything to cheer. They have not had a shot on target and their main approach seems to be lots of long balls aimed in the direction of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Big team talk for Big Duncan.

What a goal it is. Emiliano Buendia gets right in front of Andre Gomes. It's a brilliant flick, then Jordan Pickford flicks it over the head of Andros Townsend on the line. Fantastic header.

It's a big half-time now for big Dunc in that Everton dressing room.

It's disgusting to see things being thrown from the crowd, it's a disgrace. It should never happen. There is no way a player should be hit by a bottle or objects thrown from the crowd.
